A Look At The Georgetown Hoyas Without a senior on the team, Georgetown has defied most experts’ preseason predictions and put together a stellar season thus far. The Hoyas, picked to finish fifth in the BIG EAST preseason coaches poll, currently sit alone in first place in the standings, are ranked #7 and #8 in the national polls, and are riding a nine-game winning streak. Leading the charge has been 6-8 sophomore forward Otto Porter Jr., who tops the Hoyas in scoring and rebounding and who is coming off a 33-point effort in Saturday’s win at Syracuse. He is joined in the frontcourt by junior Nate Lubick and sophomore Mikael Hopkins, while sophomore Jabril Trawick and junior Markel Starks start in the backcourt. Explosive freshman guard D’Vauntes Smith-Rivera comes off the bench. Georgetown’s effective defense has held league opponents to just a .373 field goal percentage and a paltry 56.4 ppg average. The Hoyas last suffered a loss on Jan. 19 at South Florida. They are 5-2 on the road and have won their last four road games.
