Shawn Corapi, Pi Kappa Alpha
Bethany DiMarzio, Pi Beta Phi
Shawn pledged Pi Kappa Alpha one year ago and since that time Shawn has done more for his fraternity in such a short period of time than most people do in the four years that they are an active member. Shawn exemplifies the true meaning of brotherhood. He will drop anything to help out a brother in need. Shawn is a leader and does not hesitate to get up in front of hundreds of people to make his voice heard for the greater good of Fraternity and Sorority Life.
Bethany is a born leader as evident through her dedication and commitment to both Pi Beta Phi and Alpha Phi Omega the National Co-Ed Service Fraternity. Bethany immediately became a role model within her chapter as the president of her Spring 2007 new member class, guiding her peers through their initiation into Greek life. With knowledge and experience behind her, Bethany took on a similar role as the new member coordinator helping to ease the adjustment period for new members as they become emerged in Greek and college life. For the duration of 2008, Bethany has been responsible for electing executive and chapter offices as the chair of Pi Phi’s Leadership and Nominating Committee. Despite her great involvement in Pi Phi, Bethany is equally dedicated to Alpha Phi Omega and currently serves as their Chapter President. In APO she has also been the pledge master and service coordinator. Due to her goal of always setting an example for others while raising the bar of expectations and her commitment to APO, Bethany has had more service hours than any other member of Pi Beta Phi.
Within his own chapter he took the initiative this semester to bring their national “Pike Dream Girl Competition” to UConn to help support the LiveStrong Foundation for cancer. He has been spending numerous hours a day to organize this event to make it as successful for its first year at UConn. Not only is Shawn vice president for his fraternity, but also vice president of public relations for IFC.
NGLA 2009 The Northeast Greek Leadership Association hosted the Annual Conference in Hartford from February 19 to the 21st. Members from MGC, NPHC, Panhellenic, IFC, Order of Omega, and Gamma all attended the event. Throughout the conference
the UConn Greek leaders interacted with members of communities from schools ranging from UVM to Drexel in Pennsylvania. The conference was a great success as the UConn delegation compared and contrasted its community with others along
with programs, initiatives, and best practices. On the final day there was a formal awards ceremony where UConn IFC won a Programming Excellence in the area of Council Management.
