OPENING YOUR BANK ACCOUNT

Frequently Asked Questions How to choose among the above bank accounts? Most of us preferred HSBC, as transactions can be made from a Hong Kong HSBC account to the UK one without a transaction fee. However, relatively more documents are required to open a HSBC account. Those who did not qualify for a HSBC account usually went for the rest of the bank accounts in the list, depending on the proximity of their branch to our accommodation/UCL.

How to get the enrolment letter? An enrolment letter is required in all banks listed above, you would be able to get the letter after your enrolment at the student centre in Chadwick building in the main quad.

Warm Tips Book a slot in one of the bank’s branches 1-2 weeks in advance. (late September to early October is a popular time for freshers to set up bank accounts)

Visit the bank ASAP once you get your enrolment letter. Your debit card will take one week to arrive after setting up.

C

Calm Down AND You Are Not Alone Many freshers each year still haven’t been able to secure housing at this point. Get to know them (or even your future hallmates) at the upcoming 4U Induction Night! It will be immensely helpful to update each other on application progress and house-hunting. (Trust us, we’ve been there)
