CELEBRATE!!! Celebrate your Birthday with us! Every month, those who have a birthday within that month gather for a fun, informal celebration of fellowship with cake, champagne and lots of great conversation. July’s celebration will be later in the month, and is at the home of Marta Carlson. The date and time have yet to be announced, so call Susan Young at 630-325-4641 to find out the particulars. Do you have any stray birthday napkins, plates or decorations? Any and all are being collected for these informal “parties”. Simply leave them on the waitresses’ dining room table in the kitchen.

In case you haven’t heard...we are mixing it up this summer! Many units are meeting throughout the summer, but not necessarily the way they usually do. Want to join us for a lunch out or an afternoon out with your kids or grandkids, or go to a movie or concert in the park? Call Susan Young at 630325-4641 or check the Good News for more information. Unit 7 is reading the book, What I Wish for You , by Patty Digh. Discussions are held on Wednesdays from 7:00 p.m.-9:00 p.m. in the kitchen classroom and are led by life coach Jackie Peterson Sluder. They started June 15 and continue through July. For more information, contact Sue Nibeck at 630-638-0540 or Kim Nibeck-Notaro at 630-750-4516.

How Are Your Healthy Habits? Join us this summer for 8 weeks to work on improving the four pillars of health. What are the four pillars? Diet, exercise, sleep and skin care. Each week, we will gather for discussion, support and maybe a little walk around the block! Learn together! There’ll be quests, film clips and other material to generate ideas. Join any time you can. We kicked off our weekly efforts on Tuesday June 21st, but you can join us at any time. We meet on Tuesdays at 9:15 a.m. in the Newby room (south of the dining room) through August 9th.

Get to Know Daisy You’ve s een her around the church, but what do you really know about Dais y Pletcher? We want you to know more about one of our treas ured me mbers of the Women’s Association. Involved in Union Church activities for over 55 years , Dais y has served the W omen’s Association in many ways . She has served on the Board as a Unit Leader, Hous e Chair, Firs t Vice Pres ident and Pres ident. During her term as Pres ident, the W omen’s Association by-laws were revis ed to meet the needs of the present organization. If you have ever been involved in any examination of an organization’s by-laws , you can appreciate what that meant in terms of the time and effort involved. Daisy was als o in charge of the planning and careful s upervis ion of the remodelling of the Rowell Hall kitchen. A mazing Grace’s Cookbook, a collection of Grace Deal’s wonderful recipes , is another thing that Daisy worked on. The sales of this brought in funds to be us ed for Rowell Hall kitchen remodel. One of her fondest memories was the s mile on Grace’s face while she autographed her cookbooks . Currently, Daisy is the W omen’s Association liaison for memorial s ervices at the church. She is the first one the church contacts to s et up arrangements for receptions forllowing memorial s ervices . A rrangements are made with the family for the receptions and s he coordinates wishes with unit members of the W omen’s Ass ociation, or, if the s ervices are for non-unit members , the food, flowers and table s et up are arranged by her. Getting ready for a memorial s ervice can be a two day process , and some months can bring as many as five memorial s ervices . Dais y appreciates that the Women’s Assoc. takes on the res pons ibility for

What we planted... Our annual plant sale was a great success this year. We were able to donate more than $3500 to the DuPage County YWCA! We earned more than $1300 on our own perennials outside and over $9000 on the annuals in the greenhouse. Many thanks to the folks at Bronswood for their continued support of our organization and all those who donated plants, worked at the sale, and especially those patrons who supported our event!

the reception, because she feels the services in Rowell Hall give the family a special time to visit with loved ones and friends. It is certain that the families appreciate the work that Daisy does, and we are all lucky to have this dedicated lady in our midst! So, next time you see her, say “hello” and “thank you” to a wonderful lady who serves so many of us at Union Church so selflessly. Drew Barrymore said, “Daisies are like sunshine to the ground,” and Daisy is our sunshine!
