Aggie Women Finish 2nd at Stanford Invite course her freshman year. The scoring squad for the Aggies was rounded out by freshman Katie Fry, who finished 49th, and junior Sarah Tusting, who finished 56th. On the men’s side, the Aggies finished sixth overall, lead by Jon Peterson’s impressive third place finish. His time of 23:22 was 38 seconds faster than his time over the 8k course in 2010. Behind him, teammate Axel Stanovsky finished 27th, freshman Trevor Halsted finished 59th, senior Gregor Llloyd-‐Smith finished 62nd, and sophomore Alex Summers finished 71st. The meet also served as the Causeway dual against Sac State, with both the men and women coming away victorious.

Women edge Cal Poly by one point; Jon Peterson 3rd male

On Saturday, September 24th the Aggies put together full squads for the first time this season and raced at the Stanford Invitational in Palo Alto, CA. Aggies in the media

The Aggies have received some good press over the past few weeks. We sent out the link to Sarah Sumpter’s feature on flotrack several weeks ago, and since then there has also been an article about her in the Davis Enterprise which you can read here. Jon Peterson was interviewed on flotrack after his 3rd place finish at the Stanford Invite. Assistant coach Kim Conley also had a feature on flotrack as well as some video interviews and an article in the Davis Enterprise after the U.S. 5k and 10k road championships.

Pre-‐Nationals and Bronco Invite Previews

The weekend of October 15th and 16th the Aggies will have split squads racing across the country. On Saturday the 15th, Aggie men and women will travel to Sunnyvale, CA to compete in the Bronco Invitational hosted by University of Santa Clara. The meet will feature teams from across the region, including conference opponents Cal Poly, UC Santa Barbara, Long Beach State, UC Riverside, and University of the Pacific. In 2010 the men finished 3rd overall while the women finished 5th. Jon Peterson holds the course record at 23:45.1. On Sunday, seven Aggie men and seven Aggie women will toe the line at the Brooks Pre-‐National Invitational in Terre Haute, Indiana. The meet, which is hosted by Indiana State University, is run at the La Vern Gibson cross country course, which serves as the site for the NCAA Championships in November. For this reason, the meet attracts top competition from across the country as they seek out opponents from other regions and get a feel for the challenging course. The Aggies are returning to the meet for the first time since 2009 as they look to make their mark on the national stage.

Katie Fry Beginning my freshman year here at UC Davis has been an experience that I was not expecting. My summer months were spent sweating out workouts alone in my small town thinking about how looming and scary college was going to be. I'm glad I was wrong. Starting workouts with the team for the first time was exciting and eye opening. I was struggling a bit in the beginning, feeling sore and tired, sensations that I hadn't really felt since my freshman year in high school. But the team was inspiring, full of energy and love for the sport. I felt embraced by this new family instantly, and day by day I could feel myself and the team growing stronger and stronger together. We pushed each other and gave each other positive feedback and encouragement. This "team" feeling was something almost foreign to me coming from such a small school - even dressing to match my teammates is exciting and makes me feel a unity that I have never experienced. My time at our team training camp was a week that I can't wait to relive next year. We ran some beautiful yet treacherous trails, freed ourselves from technology and turned ourselves into a family of cross country runners. I have had immense support from women on the team who have encouraged me and pulled me through several difficult workouts. A hill workout at camp was turned into a fierce team effort with Lauren Wallace, Sarah Tusting and me working with each other's strengths and weaknesses to pull ourselves through to an accomplished, well-run workout. Having a group of fast, smart, and motivated women all striving to contribute to the same goal as well as improve themselves individually is really an amazing thing to witness and I'm very lucky to have the opportunity to be a part of it. We are strong and ready to do something amazing.
