UCD Societies Council is the representative body of student societies in UCD. Established in 1992, the Societies Council has a membership of over 90 recognised student societies, and is responsible for representing, advocating on behalf of, and supporting the interests and activities of student societies. The SocietiesCouncilisresponsiblefortheallocationoffundingandgrantstoeachstudentsociety.
UCDSocietiesCounciloperatesasUCDSocieties.
Working in partnership with each student society, UCD Societies support student development and the promotion of student life across campus. This work caters to current and prospective students, as well as other members of the University community. Alongside the dailyworkofpromotingUCDstudentsocieties and the UCD Student Experience, UCD Societies maintains an online events calendar and contributes contenttoseveralUCDpublications.

TheRole:
TheCommunications,SocialMedia&EventsExecutiverolewasestablishedtoenhancetheprofile andpromotionoftheUniversity’sstudentsocieties,includingtheireventsandactivities.Thereisa strongfocusondigitalmediacommunicationsandcuratingUCDSocietiesonlinepresence. AkeyelementofthisworkissupportingthepromotionofactivitiesdeliveredbyUCDstudent societiesandUCDSocieties,throughtheUCDSocietieswebsite,socialmediachannelsandrelevant publications.
Therolerequirestheabilitytoworkindependently,thinkstrategicallyandhaveanabilitytoidentify potentialenhancementstothepromotionofstudentactivitiesandeventstothewiderUniversity community UCDSocietiesseekstoreachbothcurrentandprospectivestudents.
Thesuccessfulcandidate(s)willdisplayagenuineenthusiasmforstudentactivityinaUniversity setting,astrongworkethic,aflexibleandcriticalapproachtoproblemsolving,andawillingnessto learnwithinabusyenvironment.

KeyResponsibilities
DigitalCommunications&SocialMedia
● Develop meaningful social media content to promote the activities and successes of UCD student societies,pastandpresent.
● Maintain digital communication channels associated with UCDSocieties,includingeventscalendar, website,andsocialmediaplatforms.
● Logandplanactivity.
● UpdateandorganisetheexistingUCDSocietiesMedialibrary.
● Design the UCD Societies Magazine and other promotional materials for UCD Open Days and studentrecruitmentevents.
● Prepare performance reports, reviews and assessments of digital communications and social media activityofUCDstudentsocieties,includingUCDSocieties.
● Manage the UCD Societies website and events calendar This includes working to create a positive userexperienceforbothusersandvisitors.
● MonitoranddevelopUCDSocietieswiderwebpresence.
● MaintaintheUCDSocietiesbrandandreputation.
● Contributetowardsacommunicationsandpromotionsstrategyrelatingtosocietyactivity.
● In conjunction with individual student societies ortheSocietiesCouncil,preparepressreleasesfrom studentsocietyeventsandactivitiesthatcanbeusedthroughouttheUniversityandexternally.
Events&Administration
● SupportthedevelopmentanddeliveryofUCDSocietiesCouncilevents,includingFreshers
● Week,RefreshersDayandtheSocietyoftheYearAwards.
● AssisttheUniversitySocietiesOfficeinsupervisingcertainhigh-profileeventsandspeakers.
● As necessary, provide administrative and secretariat support to committees of the UCD Societies Council.

AdditionalNotesonEligibility
It is intended that the role of the Communications and Social Media Executive should be anundergraduate student or recent graduate (not more than 2 years upon appointment). This guideline is in place to ensure that the Communications and Social Media Executive remains connected to the current student body and thatthepositiondoesnotbecomealong-term(orindefinite/permanent)position.

WorkingHours
The position is contracted for 15 hours per week. Flexibility will be required, and work may include unsocial hours and weekends. Overtime will not be payable but time off in lieu may be agreed.Hoursmay besetaroundothercommitments,includingclasses,byagreement.
The successful candidate will be an employee of ‘UCD Campus Sport & Leisure Ltd.’ , reporting to the ExecutiveCommitteeoftheSocietiesCouncilandtotheSocietiesOfficer.
PayScale
Thesuccessfulcandidatewillbepaid€32,500perannum,prorata.
