In a matter of hours, another cohort will be completing Level 3 Checkpoint and growing the UCCS PGA Golf Management Alumni! The Checkpoint Celebration Dinner is always a special evening together with families and guests reminiscing about the last 4 ½ years. This year we have a special guest, PGA Member, Will Robins. the honor of escorting both the Jones Cup and Kelbel Cup teams to Florida and Las Vegas, respectively. This program stays very busy and I am excited for the upcoming year of continued growth in our internship program and the continuation of mentoring and developing our fantastic students. As the level three students return from internship, our program reaches full presence. As students are returning for the spring semes-‐ ter we look to con nue our impact through community service events

With more students than ever before, we plan to use our increasing size to create a las ng impression on the local community and the golf industry within it. Some of the events and partnerships we look forward to this spring include: work with the UCCS Child Development Center, Ronald McDonald house, Relay for Life, PGA 2.0 Junior Golf Work-‐ shop, Golf In Schools, First Tee of Pikes Peak, increased fundraising for the program and an increasing role in the “Get Golf Ready Ini a-‐ ve” in Colorado Springs as a part of Play Golf America. We look forward to more big things this semester and con nually try to raise the bar for those who follow our footsteps.

It’s been coming for awhile, but retirement is only four months away for me. I will assume a faculty rank as “Emeritus Professor,” which, believe it or not, provides me with a free parking permit for the rest of my life. That will be great in light of the fact that I won’t need to come to campus… The other benefit is valuable, specifically that I will keep the same email address of pmiller@uccs.edu. That’s not only handy for me but you won’t need to look up a new address for staying in touch with me, and I hope you will do that.

I Our admissions process for 2014 is working well with lots of applicants and students getting admitted, and Mark is doing an outstanding job connecting our folks with great internships. I hope those of you who are in positions where you can hire interns will call him first! Please know that I have many great memories about the Program over these first 11 years. W I N T E R P U T T I N G P R AC T I C E By Chad Miller, PGA Player Development Instructor
For many of us that live in colder weather climates it gets harder to practice your short game during the offseason. A great and inexpensive practice aid to improve your putting stroke indoors is a 4 foot ruler. Pick one of these up from your local home improvement
center (Home Depot, Lowe’s), the goal is to stroke the golf ball so it rolls down the entire length of the putter. Using the ruler will help with alignment and it gives instant feedback on face and path of the putter. Once you are able to consistently roll the ball down the ruler without it falling off the edges, try rolling the ball at slower speeds down the length of the ruler for a greater challenge.
