This was a year like n Comedy Society, not necessarily the best, but not like anything that has come before.

We hosted many marvelous events like always, including panel shows, pub quizzes, a potluck) and of course the inception of our weekly open mic nights at the Kino

It goes without saying, however, that the highlight of this year for me, and for not only the comedy society, but for society at large, was the birth of the comedy baby, our darling 'Mair Kelly'. She is the light of all of our lives, and I hope that she shall continue to bring joy and laughter to the Comedy Society long after I'm gone.

After all, these guys need as much help as they can trying to make people laugh ah ha ha!

We had a fantastic year th had two mainstage shows this year, Vile Girls written and directed by Elle O’Leary Kelleher and The Shadow Genie, written and directed by Michael Holden, both of which received nominations at the Irish Society Drama Awards for Best Costume (for The Shadow Genie), Best Specialist Design (for both shows), and Best Supporting Performer (Spencer Gerber in The Shadow Genie)

We also had our annual RAG Panto, Follow the Western Road, written by Fern Kealy and directed by Daniel Madden Performing arts in general took a massive hit after the pandemic and we were no different, so we are extremely proud that we managed to put on three successful full scale shows after two years of online productions, and socially distanced shows.

UCC is due to host the Irish Society Drama Awards in 2024, a fantastic opportunity to showcase Cork’s theatre scene, and we’re very excited to bring shows from college societies all over Ireland to a new audience in Cork.

We’ve had great engagement from our members this, who wrote, produced, directed and starred in our shows, as well as being in backstage crews, coming to all of our events, workshops, and socials. To our members new and old, thank you for keeping us going!
