The UCA Panhellenic Executive Board would like to welcome those who are wanting to learn more about what Greek, specifically sorority life means to us. The Panhellenic community at UCA is comprised of four sororities: Alpha Sigma Alpha, Alpha Sigma Tau, Delta Zeta, and Sigma Kappa. Together we fall under the National Panhellenic Conference which is an umbrella group for 26 national and international sororities. Our community values women from all walks of life who are wanting to gain lifelong friends, develop their leadership abilities, and to impact the community in a positive way through philanthropic works.

The Panhellenic Executive Board at the University of Central Arkansas is a student-led and self-governing organization that provides leadership and direction to the Panhellenic Community. Panhellenic Exec is comprised of seven Panhellenic executive officers that are elected to their position each November. This group has planned all of the logistics of the recruitment weekend, and they love working with potential new members. They are here to serve you as you navigate your sorority experience at UCA!
The Panhellenic Council at the University of Central Arkansas has multiple opportunities for women to join a sorority. Most women go through the formal recruitment process, which is a four-day-long event each August.
Women who do not go through recruitment during the Fall are able to find their place within an organization through the informal recruitment process, also referred to as Continuous Open Bidding

When someone accepts a bid to a sorority, her journey is just beginning. For the first few weeks of membership, she is considered a new member. She is still valued and treated with respect but does not have full knowledge of the sorority’s rituals and other secrets. For some sororities, the new member education period lasts six weeks and for others, it is as long as ten weeks. This is an exciting time in her sorority experience, and the Panhellenic Council wants to ensure that all women understand what they can expect as a new member.
As a new member, you wi l be required to attend week y new member meetings in addition to weekly chapter meetings New member meetings are a chance for the chapter to teach its newest members the values, traditions, and rituals of the organization.
We like to have fun at UCA and being in a sorority can be the most fun experience you’ll have. Our chapters host mixers with other Greek organizations, host sisterhood events, participate in pageants, play intramurals, and spend time building friendships within our UCA Greek community!
All of our sororities spend quality time serving their local community and national philanthropic partners each semester. Our organizations will host events to raise money to donate and raise awareness about a specific cause while supporting a worthy cause
Maintaining high scholastic achievement is a core value of al of the fraternities and sororties at UCA. Al of our chapters have a study room in ther Chapter houses that are open to members whenever they need to find a quiet pace to study. Many chapters also have programs in place to assist new members with maintainng ther GPAs and making that transition to colege as seamess as possible.

Dues and fees vary from chapter to chapter and year to year. Sorority costs are often more expensive during your first semester in the organization due to one-time fees and expenses.
It's also important to note that additiona costs for items such as pictures, t-shirts, or other miscellaneous tems may ar se during the year.
P ease recognize that when you become a new member of a sorority, you are affiliating with that organization. If you choose to disaffi iate at any t me, you may stil be held responsible for fees or payments required to fulfil your contract with the organizat on.
During formal recruitment, a potential member should ask sorority members about financial obligat ons, payment plan options, and payment schedule options.
The cost below is an average for each semester as a sorority woman at the Un versity of Centra Arkansas. For room/board nformation for living n a sorority house in Greek V llage, visit uca.edu/hous ng/rates-and-leasesinfo.

Sorority recruitment can feel overwhelming at times, but please know you are never alone in this process. Our Panhellenic Recruitment team is here to support and guide you every step of the way.
Your Pi Chi has spent the summer preparing to be a reliable resource, a listening ear, and a helpful guide as you navigate recruitment and explore what it means to join a sorority at UCA.
As you begin this exciting journey, there are just a few things we encourage you to keep in mind. And remember—if you ever need support, have questions, or just want someone to talk to, dont hesitate to reach out. Were here for you!
Let your true personality shine through your conversations. Chapters want to get to know you, not a version you think they want to see.
Each chapter offers a unique experience and culture. Stay open to learning about all of them—you may be surprised where you feel most at home.
Recruitment is a two-way conversation. Dont hesitate to ask thoughtful questions to learn more about each chapters values, sisterhood, and opportunities.
You bring something meaningful to the table. Each chapter would be fortunate to welcome someone with your strengths, passions, and perspective.
Be honest with yourself about what youre looking for in a sorority experience. When you lead with authenticity, youre more likely to find the chapter that truly aligns with you.
Your Pi Chi and group are here to support you. Dont be afraid to reach out for guidance, encouragement, or simply a listening ear.

You will be doing a lot of walking during round 1, so comfortable shoes are suggested. It also can be very hot in September and there will be times when youre outside between parties!

outfit
Low heeled shoes or sneakers
The second round of parties is more relaxed than the first round. This round is designed to emphasize the philanthropy and community services sororities engage in. During this round, you will also participate in a house tour of the parties you attend. These parties are slightly longer to allow more of an opportunity to ask any questions you might have. The sorority women will be thrilled to answer any of your questions—so, don’t be shy!
Round 2 is September 6th
PNMs can attend a maximum amount of 3 houses
Rounds are 45 minutes long
Each PNM will have an individual schedule that she will receive when she checks in with her Recruitment Counselor at the beginning of the day.
Develop a system to organize times and locations for your events
Think about things to say ahead of time
Talk about your involvement and goals
Don't let other girls influence your opinions
During these 45 minutes, you will learn about the chapter's philanthropic works and learn more about the home they cherish.
These parties have an informal atmosphere, allowing both you and the sorority women to get to know each other better.
You will be provided a t-shirt to wear during this round at the Recruitment Orientation. This round is much more casual so we suggest wearing comfortable shoes, nice shorts, jeans or a skirt!

Round Three is the most formal and is known as the Preference Round. An invitation to this round means a sorority is very interested in you as a potential member. This decision is an important part of your college experience, so make it with your heart and not the opinions of your friends. What is right for them may or may not be right for you.
Round 3 is September 7th
PNMs can attend a maximum of 2 houses
Rounds are one hour in duration
Each PNM will have an individualized schedule that she will receive when she checks in with her Recruitment Counselor at the beginning of the day
Consider the financial responsibilities
Think back through all the rounds and recall what you liked the best about each chapter
This round is focused on the sorority’s sisterly values and it tends to be the most emotional round.
Trust your own judgment
Immediately after you leave the last chapter’s round you will be asked to list, in order of your preference, the sororities that you attended for the preference rounds.
Attire for preference round is much more formal than the previous rounds of recruitment. Many women choose to wear cocktailstyle dresses or something similar with heels. Think about what you might wear to an evening wedding.
Yes! It is not a requirement by any means, but parents can attend Bid Day by arriving close to 5:30 pm pm and standing in the designated section for “parents” at the Old Main lawn.
New members will go with their chapter back to the sorority houses for a little celebration. There will be no fraternity men present, no alcohol, and is for sorority members only. Is there a place in town to purchase “Bid Day Boxes” for new members?
No. PNMs and parents will not know what sorority the PNM joins until the official distribution of bids.
Potential new members who sign a Membership Recruitment
Acceptance Binding Agreement (MRABA) will arrive at Old Main at 5:30 pm for the Bid Day Celebration. You will be grouped with your Recruitment Counselor who will be given your bid card to give to you to open. Once you have opened your bid card, you can run to your chapter that will be waiting for you!

Nickname for a big sister, or a mentor, assigned to a new member. Many organ zations have a special process for assigning Bigs & Littles
Sometimes called “Littles.” Th s is a n ckname for a Big s new member that they will mentor dur ng the r co legiate career.
Six to ten weeks. The new member period affords opportun ties to meet other members, earn sorority history and feel at home. Each sorority establ shes its own new member program and in tiation dates. The university and all sororities have zero to erance for hazing
Greek letter organizations were founded on the principle of successful scholarship. Th s va ue s reflected n the sorority grade point cons stently be ng above the university s GPA Academ c success s in the student s favor when you factor in help from fel ow s sters, study ha ls and sessions, study sk l s workshops, test-taking strategies, time management, and c ass schedu ing assistance. The Greek Life and Panhel en c commun ty also prov de a number of incentives and recognition to those Greeks who achieve academical y
In today s economy, very few students attend college without outside emp oyment The sororities recognize th s and work with members to meet financial and attendance obligat ons. Many students find sorority membership an advantage in that networking with a umnae can produce job poss bilities and referrals.
No. This is a t me to assess whether you wish to join a sorority. Many women participate in recruitment to make friends and to see why so many of UCA s undergraduate women have chosen to be involved in the Greek Community and what has kept sorority a umnae active for years after their graduation
Do I have to follow the recruitment schedule and go to all of the events?
Yes! The object of recru tment s to g ve yourself the informat on you need about the chapters in order for you to make the best decision; therefore, you must accept the max mum number of invitations your schedule can accommodate.
I have heart that sororities have various reputationshow do I handle this information?
Sorority chapters are composed of many nd viduals with their own special qua it es and talents which contribute to the entire group When dec d ng about a chapter, the on y opinion that matters is your own. If you al ow someone else s perception to nf uence you, you w l not be satisf ed w th your choices n recruitment. Each chapter of a sorority s different from campus to campus and from year to year Remember that you are choosing a sisterhood, not a labe .
I have heard that sororities haze their members – is this true?
No! Each sorority has its own po icy against hazing. A so, UCA has its own Haz ng Policy that prohibits all forms of hazing. UCA’s antihazing policy can be found n the Student Handbook. Each member of all UCA Greek Letter Organizations sign a non-hazing agreement promising that they wi l not haze and agreeing they will notify the UCA Greek Office if they ever experience hazing. If you ever feel uncomfortable and that you might be hazed, please contact the UCA Greek Life Office 501-450-3137 and/or the UCA
PD 501- 450-3111.
How do sororities decide who to invite back to their events?
As your schedu e of events shrinks from round to round, so does the number of peop e each chapter is a lowed to invite back each round. Every potential member has someth ng to offer a group, but each group must re ease potential members. Each chapter uses a selection process that is defined by the r nat onal organ zat on to make the decision of who to invite back
If you receive a bid through Formal Recruitment and dec de not to accept t, you may not accept a bid from another sorority unt l the next Forma Recruitment, and you may not participate n Continuous Open Bidding. The MRABA agreement you sign is binding, and therefore, you are bound to the sorority you matched to until the formal membersh p recruitment period the following fa l. We urge you to think very carefully before turning down a bid. Emotions have a tendency to cloud thinking and judgment. Please give yourse f and the sorority a chance to prove you made the right choice.
Each potential member wi l have a d fferent experience in each group, depending on who she meets and her personal preferences and personality. Ask yourself a few questions as you participate in recruitment Are you inspired by the people around you in that sorority? Are the goa s and va ues of the organizat on similar to your own? A sorority should be a second home. The answers to your questions should guide you to the right group for you. Your Pi Ch wil be of great help in sorting out what works best for you.
