NeAW Normal: Shifting Norms in the Practice of Architecture

UAPSA goes virtual on National Architecture Week 2020 with its theme NeAW Normal: Shifting Norms in the Practice of Architecture. The 7-days celebration dated from December 7- 13, 2020, that is subdivided into four categories namely USBONG, HIKAP, ORAD, KALINGA, and PAKIGDAIT. With guests and speakers from different chapters and media outlet partners SparkUp, Lantawan, Circle Arts and Design Magazine, Zest Online Publication, Krokis, and Haligi Publication. NAW 2020 also partnered with TAO Pilipinas Publication as the chosen outreach for this event.

USBONG: Recalibrating the Traditional The 2-day webinar was conducted live on UAPSA Official Facebook page. Day 1 of USBONG: Recalibrating the Traditional is entitled Then, NAW, Tomorrow: Evolution of Filipino Architecture with its guest speakers Arch. Felino A. Palafox, Jr. founder and head of Palafox Associates and Palafox Architecture Group, Inc. and Arch. Miguel Angelo S. Mañosa, Chief Executive Officer of Mañosa and Co. Inc. Day 2 webinar is entitled Filipino Architects of Today’s Generation. With its guest speakers Arch.

Angelo Ray Serrano of One/Zero Design Corporation and Arch. Benjamin Barnaby Hizon Mendoza of Benjamin Annabelle Arch Design Studio Co. The webinars of USBONG discusses the architecture of the past and the future and how it evolves in the process.

With the current pandemic, travelling becomes harder.

NAW gave UAPSA members a chance to travel online in different places in the Philippines and sees its architecture and culture. Participated with different districts, the films are released online via UAPSA TV YouTube Channel. Winners of the Online Tour are the following: Grand Winner – Sa Mata ng Babaylan by District B4, 1st Runner Up – Paninap by District A2, 2nd Runner Up – Timog by District D1. People’s Choice Award and Best Poster Award is given to Paninap by District A2

KALINGA: Transcending Challenges as One As part of the week-long celebration, the donation drive entitled KALINGA: Transcending Challenges as One monetary donation will directly proceed to TAO PIlipinas, a non-profit and non-government organization that assists urban and rural poor communities. UAPSA Members can avail book bundles as a form of donation with a bundle of 6 books from TAO Pilipinas Publication.

ORAD: Exceeding Boundaries in the New Subsequent E-ntramurals of NAW 2020 are subdivided into 3 categories of games namely Mobile Legends, Valorant, and DOTA 2. Elimination round started December 4 participated with different chapters.

Games streamed on Discord and Semi-finals and Finals went live on Haligi Publication Facebook Page. Winners of the events are the following: For MOBILE LEGENDS - Champion: Esquisse Epro, 1st Runner Up: Phantom Power, 2nd Runner Up: Paradox. For VALORANT– Champion: Uzigi, 1st Runner Up: Sandbox, 2nd Runner Up: Arkestiks. For DOTA 2 – Champion: Nddu Apex, 1st Runner Up: Greyhoundz, 2nd Runner Up: Sinturon ni Hudas.

PAKIGDAIT: Redefining the Artistic Odyssey To finally end the celebration of National Architecture Week 2020, an online concert and fellowship night was held live at UAPSA National Facebook Page. The night went with various performances from different chapters, and architecture students namely ADT, Arkisans, Eastbound, One Time Big Time, The Archimedes, Kathleen Balbuena, Diana Alysson Wahit, Koby Kesler Peneyra, Mhike Anthony Rellamas, and Max Lumbera. To officially close the week-long celebration, it was then proceeded to Awarding of ORAD: E-ntramurals and HIKAP: Online Tour winners, recognition to sponsors and chosen charity of the event followed by the closing remarks.
