Student Focus >> Feyne Elmore, second-year Climate Scholar, is focused on climate-driven ocean acidification and nutrient transport in environments.

An experiential learning program for action-oriented undergraduate students. The program focuses on specialized skill development and the acquisition of climate change knowledge. We connect students, from all degree fields, with a supportive community of experts and resources. Climate Scholar graduates distinguish themselves as capable of envisioning, explaining, and catalyzing innovative pathways to climate change solutions.

Learning Model

The Climate Scholars Program develops students’ skills and knowledge related to climate change through a combination of instruction and experiential learning.

Community

Climate Scholars shape an active community that spans across all majors and backgrounds. The CSP community is guided by the support from peer mentors, academics advisors, faculty fellows, university staff, and a diversity network of researchers and leaders.

Program Features

• Internships with businesses, legislative offices, researchers and non-profits, students gain professional and leadership development and networking. • Field Intensives in Southeast Alaska and at Long Term Ecological Research (LTER) stations, students are immersed in place-based discovery and analysis. • International Study Away at institutions that specialize on climate and environment. • Developing New Projects and collaborating with community groups that focus climate change. • Maker Space Climate Solutions Lab where students address real problems posed by researchers and Alaskan communities, innovation using maker materials and technologies. • Arctic Council provides students with an opportunity to become immersed in arctic policy matters.
