Renewing your CPA license doesn’t have to be complicated. We’re here to help you navigate the details. If you don’t find what you need here, visit our complete FAQ online at uacpa.org/cpefaq.
Where do I report my CPE? As of 2024, Utah CPAs will report through CPE Audit Service at cpeauditservice.com. Learn how to set up your account and log your hours at uacpa.org/reportingcpe.
Is there a minimum number of hours I need to obtain in one subject area? Yes. You need to obtain three hours of ethics credits and one hour of Utah laws and rules. For your remaining 76 hours, we highly recommend that you create a learning plan and take a broad range of topics to increase your overall knowledge and professional competence.
When is the reporting period in Utah? The current reporting period runs January 1, 2025 through December 31, 2026.
Is there a limit to how many hours I can complete with online courses? No. There is no restriction on the number of hours you may spend in group-study (live courses, group presentations), self-study or in-house training.
Can I take all of my CPE in one year? Yes.
How do I get my class or conference approved for CPE credit? The topics that qualify for CPE credit are determined by the Utah State Board of Accountancy. Through an agreement with DOPL, the UACPA is the Utah CPE Registry. CPE approval applications (uacpa.org/cpeapproval) will be reviewed and returned within seven business days of submission.
If I am not licensed in Utah, but would like to transfer my license, what do I need to do? You need to submit an application for Utah licensure to the Division of Professional Licensing and submit your scores for the Utah Laws & Rules Exam and the AICPA Professional Ethics Exam.
For questions on renewing your license, the Division of Professional Licensing (DOPL) can assist you.

What is the ethics CPE requirement in Utah? At least one hour of education on the Utah Certified Public Accountant Licensing Act and Certified Public Accountant Licensing Act Rule and at least three hours of ethics education which shall cover one or more of the following areas: The AICPA Code of Professional Conduct, case-based instruction focusing on real-life situational learning, ethical dilemmas faced by accounting professionals, or business ethics.
What classes can I take to fulfill this new requirement? Every year, the UACPA produces an updated webcast that meets the requirements of the Utah laws and rules. It is available on the UACPA website and is free to members. Find it at uacpa.org/ lawsandrules. UACPA conferences typically have an ethics breakout as well. You can also find a large selection of ethics courses at uacpa.org/cpe

Every five years, the UACPA revisits its strategic plan to realign our focus, drive membership initiatives, and ensure the profession’s sustainability.
The new plan was launched in early 2025. Below is the breakdown of our four strategic imperatives to hep us steer the profession toward a positive future.
Recognized as the most trusted voice for Utah accounting professionals through quality advocacy efforts.
Develop a strong membership base through increased partnerships with other organizations to provide expanded CPE and networking opportunities
Foster member engagement by establishing the UACPA as the professional home and key networking resource for accountants in Utah.
Partner with educational institutions and employees to attract bright, capable high integrity students to accounting and encourage them to become CPAs.
The UACPA Leadership supports and challenges members through advocacy, professional education, leadership development, networking, and community service, to help them succeed in a competitive and changing world.
At the UACPA, our vision is to be a world-class professional association essential to our members.
We unite a vibrant community of CPAs to enhance the success of our members and champion the values of the profession; Integrity, Competency, and Objectivity.
