. designed by famed bauhaus architect, carpenter and furniture maker marcel breuer . exists in rural setting of wayland, massachusetts . built in 1940 . it is a clear product of the bauhaus approach taking simple lines and forms to make overall harmonious composition . breuer approches design in modernst way extending geometric cubic forms in an organic setting .structural supports also become decorative features .The spatial plan of the house seems to be based on a simple ratio to distribute space . given character with use of natural materials such as douglas fir cladding and stone on fireplace facade . The house’ s interior is layed out as if its two major linear parts are separated by a “ spine” . has gone through many additions overtime which now give the original structure a drastically different square footage and aesthetic wall which defines the main living area from the private areas . interior fireplace spans from floor to ceiling and acts as grounding entity in the living area
