Community builders: Ipic Shopping Centre Kenridge acknowledges the importance of community heroes. The centre, Pick n Pay and motivated staff members surprised teachers at Kenridge Primary School last Friday morning with cooler bags and snacks as a token of appreciation. Ipic Group CEO Rian Maartens said: “We are thankful for their role in building our community, teaching our children and supporting our shopping centre. We hope this cooler bag is a reminder of how valuable and appreciated our teachers are.” Seen from left are Sandra Smith (headmaster), Juanita Nadel, Debbie Chandler, Heather Keys, Rian Maartens (Ipic Group) and Catherine Alexander. In front are Courtney Sabatta and Lara Hill.

Campaign raises awareness for local labels All fashionistas, take note: A nationwide campaign will be doing the rounds at the Tyger Valley Shopping Centre calling on all to become proud brandsmen for locally produced clothing labels. The 2016 Wear South African campaign, an initiative of the Southern African Clothing and Textile Workers Union (SACTWU), promotes home-grown sustainability for the love of a good label. The campaign aims to encourage all locals to get behind the movement and become a “Local Label Lover” and develop an appreci-

ation for all things created in South Africa by South Africans, including bags, shoes, jewellery and millinery as well as inner and outer wear. “There’s a wealth of beautifully made options already available in our stores and online,” says project co-ordinator for the Cape Town Fashion Festival (CTFF) and Wear SAWayne van der Rheede. The campaign will be showcased at the Tyger Valley mall on 23 April from 12:00 to 13:00. V Visit www.wearsaofficial.co.za for more.

AB, the Cape’s longest standing and most renowned bridal show, takes place at GrandWest’s Market Hall on Saturday 7 and Sunday 8 May. This year’s FAB Bridal Expo will once again offer those who are planning their wedding (or even a special or corporate event or birthday party) access to everything they need for their special day. FAB brings together service providers and products from across the Cape under one roof and puts visitors in touch with the various experts they need in order to plan their wedding or host a successful event. Not only will visitors be able to see a wide selection of static displays of stunning gowns by most of Cape Town’s well known and up-and-coming designers, but FABgoers will also get the opportunity to see and experience different designs on the ramp

during the three daily fashion shows at 11:00, 13:00 and 15:00. The expo will be open from 09:00 to 16:30 and tickets, which cost R70, include viewing of the fashion shows, live music and entertainment, exhibitor competitions and demonstrations, Win-4-your wedding lucky draws after each fashion show, and over 100 exhibitors to view. V Tickets will be available at the expo entrance. Park ing for the day costs R10. Visit www.donatoevents .co.za or the FAB BRIDAL EXPO Facebook page.

The event aims to raise money to pay for the tissue typing of potential bone marrow stem cell donors in order to increase the Bone Marrow Registry of South Africa. This will give patients suffering from leukaemia and other life-threatening blood disorders the hope of finding their 1:100 000 donor match. There are fantastic prizes to be won and all golfers will receive a goodie bag and supper and wines included at the prize-giving. Interested parties can enter a four-ball for R3000 or contribute towards this event by sponsoring a hole or a prize.
