Alcohol ahead Monday 1 June marked the lowering of the national lockdown to alert level 3, which meant that for the first time since March, people were able to legally buy alcohol. Long queues were found at a few major outlets, however, not every outlet TygerBurger visited had a waiting time longer than 20 minutes, with a few outlets not having any queue at all. S
hoppers were left shocked and scared after two shops were robbed in the Tyger Valley region on Sunday 31 May. In the first case, three masked men robbed the Food Lover’s Market at Willowbridge Village early in the morning. Later that same day four masked men robbed the iStore in the adjacent Tyger Valley Shopping Centre. According to Capt Jonathan Blankenberg,
spokesperson at Bellville police station, the first incident happened at around 08:30 the morning. “One suspect went outside the shop to get hold of the security and took him to the cash office for which there was no key to open the door. One suspect was armed with a firearm. The three suspects then took money from the cash register to the amount of R3 500.” They fled in a silver BMW with a cloned registration number. “No shots were fired and nobody was injured.” The second incident happened at around
14:35 when four men entered the mall with masks and gloves. “One suspect entered the iStore shop and demanded one of the employees open the safe, while the other suspects were waiting at the door. They took eight iPhones and 10 watches.” Nobody was injured and no shots were fired. The suspects once again fled the scene in a silver BMW with cloned plates. The BMWs are different, says Blankenberg, as the one has a sun roof and the other not.
The suspects are still at large. The cases are being investigated by Sgt Chriswin Lombard. Anyone with information is asked to call him on 074 720 9929. . In February this year, five men in a silver Hyundai ix35 robbed the Experimax store at Tyger Valley Shopping Centre. The incident happened at around 04:15 when the suspects assaulted a security officer and smashed the window of the store, before taking off with an undisclosed number of laptops and cellphones. These suspects are still at large
