Black Belt Grading upholds standards History was set in motion as The Black Belt Grading Society held their first Black Belt Kickboxing grading recently. Instructors from various clubs around the Cape were tested on their skills and knowledge by senior Black Belts Shihan Dewaldt du Preez from Cape Town, Shihan Gary Swart and Sensei Neil Swart from Pretoria. The grading officially started at 08:00 and finished at 15:00 with the certificate ceremony afterward. Serious attention was given on mastering of the basics and advanced techniques including the understanding and functioning of these techniques. The grading was supported by the Western Province Kickboxing Association (WPKA). “Martial Arts as a black belt must be your passion and your lifestyle. Continued personal improvement must be the goal, not
only for yourself, but to the value of those you are teaching.” “Therefore we are planning regular training for these black belts and opening our doors to those who are willing to learn and strive forward. “A Black Belt must show honour, integrity and discipline and be a true example for others,” Shihan Dewaldt said. The Black Belt Grading Society plans to uphold the true standards of being a black belt without being another “controlling body”. “We are not interested in the politics of the arts, we just want to offer new and current black belts structure and support for their further development, as it is easy to get stuck in a routine of teaching, but not having any further self-improvement,” Shihan Dewaldt added.
