Amazing voice in spotlight S’Bongile Mntambo of Stellenberg High School has done more than just stolen the spotlight with her amazing voice. She has also been raking in multiple awards and titles. And although this year has been a busy one for Bongile, she shows no sign of slowing down. Bongile has the ability to gracefully juggle the demands of high school while travel-

ling to various singing performances. She manages to attend several performances each month, and still treat schoolwork as a top priority. In 2013 she achieved the top marks at the Stellenbosch Arts Competition for which she was awarded a special prize. Later this year she will be singing a solo with an orchestra at the Hugo Lambrechts Concerto Festival. Bongile hopes to one day share the stage with her idols, Cecilia Bartoli and Pretty Yende, and travel across the world. “My passion for singing began the day I worked up enough courage to step on to the stage at my pre-school graduation,” she says. Bongile’s favourite part about what she does is meeting new people and experiencing different things. Believing in her abilities did not come naturally but was something she learnt to do over time. She is especially thankful to those who have helped in turning her natural talent into a voice that aspiring singers yearn for. Her family, friends and mentors are supportive of her passion and keep her humble, she says. This talented Stellenberg student with the big dreams and strong support system cheering her, is definitelty one to watch.
