Boy band reunites in farewell LOUISA STEYL @lounotes
JAG will be reuniting for a ‘One night Only’ performance this month.
Local boy band, JAG, are back and will be in Cape Town for one night only when they perform at GrandWest Grand Arena on Saturday 7 September. The band, celebrating 10 years, is made up of brothers Emo and Loukmaan Adams, Mono Dulisear, Nur Abrahams and Sury Boltman. “About 10 years ago I had an idea to start a boy band that rips off other bands,” explains Emo, adding: “and with that JAG was born.” “So what started as a joke actually became one of the biggest part of our careers,” he says.
“But before we had awesome gigs, we did schools, weddings, carnivals and it just grew from there,” Emo points out. The group’s aim was always for the members to pursue solo careers and Emo explains that the singing in the group, helped make this happen for them. With one of the group’s members moving overseas, Emo says it seemed like the right time for them to reunite. “Fans have been asking us forever to come together again...” Emo says. The national tour, which ends in Cape Town, will also serve as a farewell tour for the band. V JAG will be at the Grand Arena on Saturday 7 Sep tember. The Sanlam Private Investments (SPI) Portrait Award exhibition will open to the public at Rust-en-Vrede gallery tonight (Wednesday 28 August) and run during normal office hours thereafter until 6 October. Cream of youth talent This year’s Youth Music Festival (YMF) takes place on Saturday 31 August at 19.30 in the Artscape Theatre with 13 exceptionally talented young musicians and singers who successfully auditioned to perform at this annual event. Presented by Artscape and the Cape Philharmonic Orchestra (CPO) in collaboration with Distell Foundation, this festival serves as a launching pad for young classical music instrumentalists and singers to perform with a symphony orchestra. Maestro Theodore Kuchar conducts the orchestra in a varied and exciting programme. The chosen musicians were selected from over 50 participants during auditions. Their ages range from 10 to 25 years and include Sulayman Human on piano, Ruan Van der Vyver on flute, Carika Smit on flute, Natanja Uys on violin, Lisa White on oboe, tenor, Makudupanyane Senaoana, Visser Liebenberg on clarinet, Emilio February on xylophone, Tobias Kotze cello, Axolile Hoza on flute, soprano, Linda Nteleza, bass baritone, Bongani Kubheka and Andrew Munro on piano.
