amelekhaya Socenywa, who miraculously survived a ninemetre fall at a construction site two weeks ago, was apparently scared to get onto the scaffolding he fell from, because he suspected that it was not secure. According to Richard Adonis, one of the painters present at the time of the incident on Clarendon Street Richard Adonis in Parow, Socenywa was scared to get onto the scaffolding, but was allegedly told by his boss that the job needed to be done. “We all warned them not to go onto that unsteady thing (scaffolding), but they would not listen,” explains Adonis, who works at the same construction site, but for a different company to Socenywa.

Second accident Adonis also alleged that Socenywa is actually the second worker who has fallen Kobus Daries from the building site in the space of just four months. Socenywa’s employer, Gavin Bokhorst, who initially gave a different name of his company to TygerBurger, denied claims of a previous fall at the same site. TygerBurger’s recent visit to the building site revealed a chilling picture of the hazardous conditions facing workers from Qualicoat Painting, Decorating & Waterproofing.

Upon TygerBurger’s arrival two Qualicoat workers were about nine metres in the air on a ladder that was shaking unsteadily in the wind, while one man at the bottom was desperately trying to keep it in his grip.

Afraid When asked whether he was afraid that the ladder would fall, he said he did not want to speak to the media. Kobus Daries, one of the other painters on the site said he was also present on the day of the incident. “I heard the scaffold collapse and saw him (Socenywa) lying there in a pool of blood. I thought he was dead. But after seconds he moved,” Daries said. According to Daries, Socenywa was doing waterproofing on the third floor on the day of the incident. Bokhorst told TygerBurger that Socenywa fell from a ladder and not scaffolding as was reported. This, after he explained at length on the day of the incident that the “scaffolding my worker fell from was secure,” and that the fall was just a terrible accident. ER24 paramedics, who stabilised Socenywa at the scene of the accident, before transporting him to N1 City Hospital, also confirmed that the 30-year-old Socenywa fell from scaffolding. V To page 2.

A singing doctor pitches up Dr Dale Cilliers from the Panorama Mediclinic’s emergency unit, showed off his love and passion to sing when he recently entertained the seniors at the Tygerberg service centre for the aged and Meals on Wheels. Elsies River robber’s arrested in Parow Friday the 13th proved an unlucky day for a 29-year-old robber from Elsies River, when he was arrested in Parow. According to Parow police spokesperson, Lt Kevin Williams, Warrant Officers Danie du Plessis and Jacques Voigt were patrolling in Parow CBD during a Bellville Cluster crime prevention operation. “While patrolling they noticed a person being wrestled and choked opposite the Parow Municipal buildings and sounded their siren, but the scuffle continued,” Williams said. According to Williams, when Du Plessis and Voigt approached the suspect, he let go

of his victim and fled the scene on foot. “The suspect ran into a yard of a nearby building and was in the process of jumping over the back wall when another police member blocked him. He then came back towards Du Plessis. When he tried to arrest him the suspect resisted and was subdued,” Williams said. “According to Du Plessis at the time of this incident the alleged perpetrator had already robbed the victim of cash and a pay sheet and wanted to take his cellular phone as well,” Williams said. A case of robbery and resisting arrest was opened.

Parow is ’n bekroonde skrywer ryker nadat die De Tijger-inwoner, Elizbè van der Colff, se debuut-jeugboek, onlangs met ’n ATKVwoordveertjie vir teks sowel as illustrasie bekroon is. Chris Venter, ’n oud-leerder van die Laerskool De Tyger en die Hoërskool Tygerberg, het die illustrasies in die boek gedoen. Maar ná ’n Mariana Brandt-kursus vir aspirant-boekskrywers, en die aanmoediging van haar oudste dogter, was Elizbé gereed vir die uitdaging. “Ek het die nodige riglyne by die kursus geleer, maar dit was nie maklik nie. Ek wou al moed opgee,” bieg Elizbé. Sy het die boek, wat handel oor ’n kopluisplaag wat die Laerskool Tierkop getref het, in 2010 begin skryf en binne vier maande voltooi. Maar omdat uitgewers nie met die storielyn saamgestem het nie, is die boek met haar eerste probeerslag afgeskiet. Tog het sy deurgedruk en bo uitgekom. “Die boek is na ’n tweede probeerslag aanvaar, maar ek was nie seker oor hoe dit in die mark sou vaar nie,” sê Elizbé. Die boek se sukses het dus al haar verwagtinge oortref. “Al die terugvoer wat ek gekry het sedert die boek in Mei 2012 op die rakke is, is oorweldigend positief,” vertel Elizbé opgewonde. Dié wat Nina en die wacky hare geniet het, sal bly wees om te hoor dat ’n opvolg op pad is. “Dit is so te sê klaar geskryf, maar ek skaaf nog,” sê Elizbé, wat niks verder oor die inhoud wou verklap nie. Sy sê wel: “Ek skryf boeke met gelukkige eindes. Kinders moet kan weggevoer word en goed en veilig voel as hulle lees,” meen sy.

Police seek eyewitnesses Parow police are calling on eyewitnesses to assist them with the investigation of the following incidents: On Sunday 7 July, at approximately 05:00 an accident occurred at the circle of Mcintyre Street in Parow. The said vehicle collided with a tree in the middle of the island. Only one vehicle was involved. The driver was rushed to hospital, where he died two weeks later. The deceased was driving a White VW Polo with registration number CY 338953 at the time of the accident.

On Friday 9 August, at approximately 04:00 an accident occurred on Jan Smuts Drive opposite Svenmill, Beaconvale in Parow. The said vehicle overturned and collided with a lamppost Only one vehicle was involved. The driver was declared dead on the scene, but his passenger survived. The deceased was driving a White Nissan bakkie with registration number CY 264598 at the time of the accident. From sermons to stethoscopes

Giant strides in music at age 11

Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu has followed his lifelong dream of becoming a doctor by going back to university and attending lectures with medical students at Stellenbosch University’s campus at Tygerberg Hospital. Over the past few months the Arch quietly slipped into lectures with fellow students in the department of paediatrics and child health and has begun learning how to recognise symptoms of childhood diseases in the skills lab at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences. “I’ve been going to lectures and working with dedicated young students. I’ve always wanted to be a doctor and now I’ve had the opportunity to see what it’s like,” he said. While not able to enrol in the full course, the Archbishop Emeritus has got a good feel of the field of medicine. He’s been to four long classes, covering childhood TB, cancer, kidney conditions and working with premature babies. At the department’s skills lab, he used a stethoscope and worked on a simulated doll to learn how to diagnose conditions. Part-time lecturer, Dr Marlene Morkel, said she was very impressed with the interest her new student had shown, as well as his natural ability. “He was very good. He has a natural affinity for picking up clinical signs. For a firsttimer, he was fantastic. I was very surprised. He was also very entertaining and fun to have in the class.” Tutu had approached Professor Nulda Beyers from the Desmond Tutu TB Centre at the Department of Paediatrics and Child Health about his idea of learning what it was

Clairambre Ibarrola is taking giant strides towards becoming an acclaimed musician at the tender age of 11. This Grade 6 learner at Deutsche Internationale Schule Kaapstadt and violin student of Valentina KolevaVorster at the Hugo Lambrechts Music centre in Parow, was the youngest soloist who performed in the Camerata Tinta Barocca’s annual concert of upcoming young soloists. Camerata Tinta Barocca is a Cape Town based professional ensemble performing exclusively baroque music. Clairambre played baroque concerti and sang at the concert, which was recently held at St Andrew’s Church, Green Point. French-Chinese-born, Clairambre was five when she moved with her mother from Aix en Provence, France, to Cape Town. She was three when she started piano lesssons, but switched to the violin five years later. In 2011 she joined the violin classes with Koleva-Vorster at Hugo Lambrechts. Last year she became the lead violin of the Beginner String Orchestra at HL and since then she has been a member of the Young Strings. After intensive studies she was credited with three High Honours for her performances at this year’s Cape Town Eistedddfod.

Tutu said he had been accepted into Wits University to study medicine as a young man, but that his family could not afford to pay the fees. He instead went into the ministry, but had always wondered what it would have been like had he become a doctor. Tutu said he was moved by the commitment shown by the medical students at Stellenbosch University. “I’m impressed by the commitment and passion shown by the students and the young doctors,” he said. In their advanced years of study, medical students work under the supervision of the paediatricians at Tygerberg Children’s Hos-

pital. The Archbishop Emeritus said he was also very impressed with the dedication shown by the professors and lecturers. “They were incredibly helpful. You can see how determined they are to make sure that all of their students pass and do well.” Tutu visited the acute admissions ward for newborns during one of his sessions, where neonatologist, Professor Johan Smith talked about the risks facing premature babies. The ward cares for babies weighing under 1 000 grams. At the end of the session, paediatrician Professor Rob Gie presented Tutu with a stethoscope with his name engraved on it.

A renowned Bellville-based artist’s row with a pizza delivery guy over change, landed at the police’s charge office, after his house became a paintball target. Theo Kleynhans is gunning for the culprit who stained his house with several paint marks with what appeared to have been a paintball gun. Kleynhans suspects the pizza delivery guy, who sped away from his house after an argument about change. The Bellville artist, a regular pizza consumer, explained that he had been having problems with pizza deliveries for ages: “The well-known pizza place promises free delivery, yet their delivery guys try all sorts of tricks to cheat you for a tip, which means the delivery is not free at the end of the day,” Kleynhans argued. On 10 September, Kleynhans ordered a pizza from an establishment where he regularly experienced said problem. When he ordered he explained the problem to the store and asked them to ensure that this time they send change for R200 with the delivery guy. After an hour and a half the pizza had still not arrived so Kleynhans called them again to ask whether the pizza was on its way, and if not requested them to keep it. When the pizza arrived an already irritated Kleynhans was not interested in giving a tip and asked for all his change instead. “The pizza was R177,77 and I gave him R200. He gave me R20 change and I told him that it was not all of my change, demanding that he handed over all of it,” Kleynhans explained.

The guy then apparently told Kleynhans that he did not have more change with him, but Kleynhans, not willing to accept this “excuse,” chased him to his car to go find it. The delivery guy obliged, heading for his car “but sped off and the following evening Kleynhans’s house was covered with paintball marks. He went to the manager of the pizza supplier, explained what happened and asked for the details of the delivery guy, but only managed to get a first name, “as the manager claimed to not have a surname or phone number of the guy”. Kleynhans said since the incident, he decided to rather hand over the matter to the police for further investigation.

Loslitdag het onlangs plaasgevind en Radio Tygerberg het almal aangemoedig om hul loslitdagplakkers te dra en saam met hulle “groot” te gaan. “Want Suid-Afrikaners se individuele bydraes van ’n R10-plakker maak ’n groot verskil in die lewens van mense met gestremdhede,” meen Luané Janse van Rensburg, skakelbeampte van Radio Tygerberg. Loslitdag is ’n projek van die Nasionale Raad vir Persone met Liggaamlike Gestremdheid in Suid-Afrika (NCPPDSA), wat hom beywer om die behoeftes van persone met gestremdhede aan te spreek. Die tema vir vanjaar se Loslitdag was “doen dit groot” en Radio Tygerberg en Paarlskool het behoorlik daad by die woord gevoeg en die handrem losgemaak. Luisteraars en maatskappye is uitgenooi om by hulle aan te sluit om leerders van die Paarlskool te bederf. Die vure het al vroegoggend gebrand soos ouers van die leerders begin voorberei het om almal te bederf. Vencorp Group maak elke jaar ’n sekere persentasie van hul winste beskikbaar vir liefdadigheid en het op die dag al die rolletjies, wors en vleis vir die leerders geborg. Volgens Janse van Rensburg het Boltfast weer verseker dat daar genoeg lekkergoed vir almal was. “Die besturende direkteur van Boltfast, Daneel Herselman, en sy bestuurspan, het besluit om nie net groot te gee nie, maar ook groot aan te trek,” het Janse van Rensburg gesê. Die boodskap van Herselman was: “Moenie ophou hoop nie, moenie ophou droom nie, moenie ophou bid nie. “Dit is so maklik om hierdie kinders se harte bly te maak. Daarom het ons besluit dat ons groot gaan aantrek en iets te gee wat hul hartjies bly maak,” het Herselman gesê.

Our cultural diversity also our strength Heritage day (24 September), also known as National Braai Day as the result of a pointed 2005 media campaign, was not originally intended to be an official South African public holiday. But, when the Inkatha Freedom Party with its large Zulu membership, refused to sign the Public Holiday’s Bill because it omitted the inclusion of Shaka Day, a concession was made. Each year Zulu kings and warriors gather at King Shaka’s grave in Stanger and honour him on this day. King Shaka was the legendary Zulu king who played an important role in uniting disparate Zulu clans into a cohesive nation. It’s probably in this spirit that Heritage Day should be celebrated. Shaka will also be remembered as a heartless warrior, changing the tools and style of Zulu warfare to be effective in close contact, relentlessly and even brutally training his soldiers, and confusing his enemies with brilliant war strategies, thus gaining respect – and fear – of all nations, including the British and European settlers of the time. But it’s his brilliant ability to unite nations without shedding a drop of blood, that should also be celebrated. South Africans across the spectrum are therefore encouraged to celebrate their culture and the diversity of their beliefs and traditions on this day and to be committed and proud of the group you belong to, but also to embrace others’ heritage – and learn from it.

Landsburgers moet veilig voel Schalk Wepener skryf (“Polisie verdien nie die opskrif nie”, TygerBurger, 11 September) dat ’n vorige TygerBurger-opskrif “Our criminal record cops” onbillik is, en tot ongewenste gevolge kan lei. Soos ek verstaan het 20 % van die polisie kriminele rekords. Daar is seker nog meer skuldiges binne die polisie wat nog nie gevang is nie. Daar is sekerlik goeie mense in die polisie wat alles gee om eerbare diens te lewer, maar die gehalte van die polisie gaan oor baie meer as net emosies. Die polisie moet sorg dat wetsgehoorsame burgers veilig kan voel, en hulle nie bekommerd hoef te wees dat hul besittings geroof gaan word nie. Die polisie gaan daaroor dat burgers nie vir elke vreemde geluid bewe nie. Dit gaan daaroor om te kan braai sonder om bewapen te wees vir as rowers sou toeslaan. Dit gaan daaroor dat as jy in nood verkeer, jy met vertroue die polisie kan bel – en dat hulle betyds vir hulp sal opdaag. Dit gaan daaroor dat ouers kans sien om hul kinders in Suid-Afrika groot te maak. Dit gaan daaroor om eendag aan natuurlike oorsake te kan doodgaan. Dit is ’n billike veralgemening om te sê die polisie faal in hul plig. Dit is billik om te verkondig dat ten minste ’n vyfde van die spul kriminele is. It is very costly to water an expanse of lawn these days. As a ratepaying citizen I am also expected to foot the bill for watering and tending the council verges. Maybe Mr Traut would like to subsidise my water bill. La Rochelle is a beautiful suburb which used to be peaceful, but no longer where I am situated. I am surrounded by dogs that bark every day, sometimes for hours on end, the continual smell of excrement in the air because dog owners cannot be bothered to clean up their yards, children that scream continuously, people sawing and grinding... Bank teller worthy of our high praise I would like to express my gratitude to the teller, Danielle Neethling, at ABSA Bank, N1 City Mall. She provided incomparable service to an octogenarian father who has been their client for many years. My siblings and I had accompanied him to the bank on Saturday morning, 14 September. The bank requested

additional documentation to complete the desired transaction. We supplied these and were assisted as the bank was closing. The process was a lengthy one and the teller stayed behind for more than 45 minutes after the bank had officially closed to complete it. We were critically aware that it was the start of her weekend. If she had been disgruntled or rushed to conclude the transaction, we would rightly have understood. However, she was professional, patient and kind throughout. You with the noisy bikes, cars: grow up! Camps bay and Constantia have their Porsches and Ferraris. What does Parow have? Parow has motor bikes and skedonks. These operate with impunity shattering the air with their noise as their owners strive to exact every bit of sound from the exhaust pipes while racing up Mcintyre street direction N1. Their meteoric progress can still be heard for kilometres by all the neighbourhood for minutes afterwards. They derive great pleasure by causing loud bangs in the smaller streets as they rip home and park in their driveways. All of this to “impress” the neighbours with their alpha behaviour. Neighbours are too intimidated or timid to approach these offensive characters and ask them to tone down their Grand Prix imitations. I remember as kids playing with dinky toys in the dust to loud brooombroooms. The more rich and loud the more powerful the toy. In short, grow up guys, so we can wave a friendly wave as you pass by instead of throwing down the tools in anger. ANON Web letter

Artscape is set to celebrate South Africa’s cultural diversity in grand style, with the much-anticipated The Last Ride production as part of the Heritage Festival, to be held from 20 to 21 September 2013 at the Artscape Arena. The Heritage Festival forms part of the Artscape Educational Youth Development Programme that is designed to promote social cohesion, good citizenship and empowerment through the arts. “The Festival aims to contribute to social cohesion, integration and inclusion of previously disadvantaged communities and to contribute to the cultural diversity in our society...” says Marlene le Roux, director for Audience Development and Education for Artscape. The Last Ride, written and directed by Thando Baliso, starring Masizole Marafana, Ziyanda Siyondo, Nceba Mpiliswano, Ayavuya Cekiso, and Dumisani Siziba came out as one of the top two productions of the 2009 Ikhwezi Theatre Festival held at the Baxter Theatre. When a young boy wants to go for initiation, paternity becomes an issue. His grandfather, who raised him after he was abandoned by his mother, sends him on a journey to Cape Town before he can perform the ritual. The journey uncovers scenes of contested disputes and uncomfortable collections of memories linked to his family.

Beroemdheid is dié twee se groot droom LOUISA STEYL @lounotes

Twee ouens van Bellville is op ’n missie om beroemd te raak, ongeag wat hulle ook al aanvang om daar te kom. M.J. Viljoen en Gerrit (Bul ) Cilliers is die gesigte agter ’n nuwe reeks, Amper Famous, wat hopelik een van die dae op TV sal verskyn. Die eerste episode is al meer as 7 000 keer op YouTube gesien en is al deur beroemdes soos Ryan O’Connor, Bobby van Jaarsveld, Emo Adams en Casper de Vries getwiet, maar M.J. en Bul se mikpunt is dat 10 000 mense die video sien. “Ons is twee gewone ouens wat onsself deur die stappe sit vir wat ’n mens moet doen om beroemd te word,” verduidelik Bul die reeks. “In elke episode sit ons onsself deur die ropes om op daai manier famous te probeer word,” sê hy. Amper Famous gaan oor dié twee vriende wanneer hulle verskillende uitdagings aanpak, soms met skreeusnaakse gevolge. Van liggaamsbou en modelwerk, tot stoei en selfs ’n Bear Grylls-styl-episode, Man vs Wild, is die twee bereid om al hul drome uit te leef. “Ons doen alles wat dit vat om in daai spesifike episode die onderwerp wat ons dek, duidelik te maak,” sê MJ.

“Een of ander tyd sal ons ook iets dek waarvan jy gedroom het,” beloof hy. Hoewel daar ’n struktuur in elke episode is, is daar ook ’n groot mate van realiteit in die program. Bul en M.J. was saam by die Hoërskool Stellenberg op skool en ken mekaar van graad 8 af, maar hulle het aanvanklik glad nie oor die weg gekom nie. “In graad 9 het ons uiteindelik begin vriende te raak. Ons het toe besef ons het albei die passie om in die ‘entertainment business’ in te gaan,” sê MJ. Bul onthou die middae waar die twee by M.J. se huis sou sit en musiekvideo’s skiet of gedigte skryf. Hulle het toe al op allerhande maniere met idees vir programme geëksperimenteer. “Al hierdie shows het toe op die ou end gelei tot by die konsep van Amper Famous,” verduidelik Bul. M.J. sê: “Teen die begin van verlede jaar, toe ons klaar gestudeer het, was ek op ’n sekere dag op Wellington en Bul het in daardie stadium in die verkeer op die N1 vasgevang gesit.” Bul het vir MJ gebel en gevra hoekom hulle nie, na alles wat hulle al in die verlede probeer het, nie net alles uithaal om beroemd te word nie. “Die ding wat mense moet verstaan van Amper Famous, is dat dit 100 % oorspronklik is,” sê Bul. “Ek en MJ het saam gaan sit en besluit ons

Wanneer hulle nie voor die kamera is nie, is Bul ’n onderwyser by die Hoër Seunskool Rondebosch, terwyl M.J. by Hoërskool Monumentpark in Kraaifontein klasgee. “My leerders hou daarvan – hulle ondersteun my eintlik,” sê M.J. Met subtitels hoop hulle dat Engelse mense ook die program sal kyk, maar Bul sê hul-

Die Namibiese sanger en liedjieskrywer, Sanet Lambrechts, het onlangs haar nuwe CD in Durbanville bekend gestel. Sanet sê die album, getiteld Liefde, wat by Meerendal bekend gestel is, bied so ietsie vir almal – van klassieke musiek tot ligte Afrikaanse liedjies. Soos baie musikante, sing Sanet al van kleins af. “Musiek was maar nog altyd in my bloed gewees,” sê sy. “Dis absoluut ’n passie vir my.” Alhoewel sy altyd gesing het, het Sanet eers as ’n musiekonderwyser gewerk voor sy besluit het om voltyds musiek te maak. Sy het graad 6 in klassieke sang en graad 7 in klavier. Sy het ook ’n Pectrum-kitaareksamen in graad 3 verlede jaar by Trinity voltooi. Sanet het al so twintig jaar gelede begin om met ander kunstenaars musiek te maak. “Ek het baie ‘backing’ gedoen vir kunstenaars wat Namibië toe gekom het,” sê Sanet. Toe sy nog op skool was, het sy al saam met die Afrikaanse gospelsanger, Hessel van der Walt, getoer. Sy het ook saam met Randall Wicomb, Manuel Escorcio, Ronny Belcher en selfs Bles Bridges gesing. Van haar liedjies is al deur ander kunstenaars opgeneem. U Liefde, waarvoor Sanet ’n ATKV-pluimpie-toekenning gewen het, is deur Jan van Niekerk, ’n Suid-Afrikaanse sanger, opgeneem. Lize Visser, ’n jong Namibiese sanger, het Sanet’s se lied, Waar my hart dans, ook opgeneem. “Dis ’n lekker danslied vir die jongklomp,” sê Sanet. Sy is ook trots om saam met die bekende Kaapse sanger, Ivan Siegelaar ’n lied te kon opneem. Die twee het ’n nuwe Kersfees-duet, Somer Kersfees, vir Sanet se album opgeneem.

In this animation, the Smurfs venture off into the human world once again – this time to glitzy Paris where they have to save one of their own. Smurfette has been kidnapped by the evil sorcerer Gargamel, because she is the only

one who knows how to turn his evil minions, the Naughties, into real Smurfs so they can take over the world. Now, with Papa Smurf and the rest of the Smurfs hot on his trail, Gargamel realises that his grand plan might not be quite as easy to put into action. With the help of their friends Patrick and Grace Windslow, the Smurfs travel to Paris to save their friend.

Cape Town City Ballet returns to Artscape from 26 to 28 September with Pas de Deux, a programme that showcases the romance, magic and beauty of ballerina and danseur on stage in perfect unison. Wrestling prize: champ’s belt XWE (Xtreme Wrestling Entertainment) is set to bring the action to the Kraaifontein City Hall on Monday 23 September at 20:00. Several top wrestlers and live entertainment promises for a fun-filled evening. When asked, owner Johan Lamprecht described the Kraaifontein City Hall as: “A perfect venue for wrestling, the venue can house about 1 000 fans. It’s just perfect for our great wrestling fans.” XWE has had great success in the Kraaifontein and Brackenfell areas, having had several shows including a family day show and a show in association with the local church. XWE is set to deliver their biggest show to date. On 23 September XWE will be presenting Rise of the Champions in association with Burger Le Roux and Pierre Ros-

souw. The night will be filled with wrestling action, an MMA tournament, singing superstar performances and some special added surprises. Tricore Freestyle MMA is an MMA training centre closely tied to XWE; they have also bred several MMA champions. XWE has always said that when the time was right they would crown their first champion, and the time will be right on 23 September. The long-awaited championship belt will be contested for in one main event showdown. XWE will be selling tickets at only R50. A pair of well-known “roadies”, Carinus Lemmer and Alex Heward, came up with the idea of night racing in SA – until now strangely absent from our annual cycling calendars. They approached Wayne Roberts, owner of Lights by Linea lighting company, known for their slogan of “We put projects in light”. And the result of this ambitious trio’s efforts was the thrilling spectacle in Stellenbosch recently – 40 laps around a 1.2 km circuit. It’s like a Monaco Grand Prix of cycling. It’s street circuit racing, through incredibly beautiful streets, lined by thousands of people, in a huge party atmosphere. When the racers come past, you literally feel the wind on your face. The crowds were going ballistic – you’re

part of the action. Nolan Hoffman, from Team Abantu, took his 2013 win tally from nine to 11 within a few hours by winning the double header at the inaugural Lights by Linea Pro Criteriums recently. Hoffman won the 4th and final leg of the Polkadraai Criterium series ahead of Johan Rabie (NuWater) and HB Kruger (team Bonitas). Hoffman whom has played a major role in the development of Gouveris in the past four months enjoyed solid support from the 18year-old during the 1hr30min race held on a 2.5 km circuit. Gouveris found himself in the decisive break of the day and was soon joined by his team leader Hoffman. The endless work by Gouveris in the early stages of the race gave Hoffman the opportunity to find his “good legs” and in the closing stages of the race only three riders remained up front in Hoffman, Rabie and Kruger.
