Summer Greens ‘lost’ ANDRÉ BAKKES

Some of Summer Greens’ residents are feeling that there is a whole lot of talk and little action from authorities to relieve their burden of living in a dilapidated suburb. Ward councillor Joy McCarthy, however, urges them to be patient after council set up a special task team to address some of the issues

that are crippling the suburb. This task team has regular meetings, the last of which happened yesterday. McCarthy has pulled together the relevant staff, both within and outside the councillor’s area of control as well as the police at meetings to deal with Summer Green’s issues. Progress made is enough to make chairperson of the Summer Greens Residents’ Association (SGRA), Dolf Colyn, “reasonably optimis-

tic”, but most of the other residents are unaware of movement on this front. For them the need for intervention from some quarter is growing stronger by the day. Ronel van Bosch says that most are “gatvol” of meetings and the general lawless state that is gripping the neighbourhood. TygerBurger reported on these issues a few months ago in articles entitled “Summer Green blues” and

“Anarchy looming”. Van Bosch sums up these issues when she says: “There are way too many people living in houses and there are several shops which have opened on residential-zoned properties. I’m also very gatvol of the excessive noise at night!” Another resident, Wayne de Roos, is just as frustrated when he says: “I know of houses where up to 20 people live on the property.” De Roos attends most of the meet-

ings, whether these are SGRA or sector policing meetings, and he says that he has heard many promises made over the months and nothing ever goes ahead as planned. “There are so many problems here and so many articles have been written, yet things are just getting worse. People are now sleeping in their cars in front of homes that house 20 people!” he exclaims, before adding that he has lost all hope. . To page 2.

He also muses that a small minority cares about the suburb, but that there can be no improvement unless the rest get on board. Milnerton police also hold regular meetings in Summer Greens where crime trends are revealed and neighbourhood watch strategies are discussed, but crime continues to be a major concern. One resident sent out an ominous warning when she said: “Let me warn you now, police and law enforcement are not going to solve our problems. We must stand up and fight!” Communication channels have been opened between the various roleplayers, but there is no quick-fix or a short-term solution to some of the biggest challenges. Very specific actions will flow from the proposals recorded thus far, which will be communicated to all from the office of the regional manager. The normal communication structures within the Economic, Environment and Spatial Planning Directorate will also be used to monitor and initiate these actions. Further internal discussions continue to take place where issues identified in Summer Greens are discussed, awareness is created and ideas are shared.

A memorial golf day was held at the Milnerton Golf Club in September in memory of Milnerton High School’s head boy, Jake Wootton, who tragically lost his life in an accident earlier this year, whilst holidaying in Hermanus. The cheque of all the funds, which will be used to construct a gymnasium in honour of Jake, was recently handed over to the school. The Wootton family would like to thank all the participants and guests who contributed so generously at the auction and the Milnerton Golf Club for their donation and assistance. Two suspects were arrested for the possession after an unlicensed firearm after Maitland Police found them hiding in a local pub. Local police spokesperson, WO Siyabulela Vukubi, elaborates: “We were approached by a complainant who informed us that two men wanted to steal his car in Voortrekker Road. Quick reaction by police members led to the arrest of two suspects, who ran into a nearby pub.” The police arrested them after they found a Silver Star pistol loaded with fourteen rounds of live ammunition. The suspects, aged 26 and 21 respectively, are both from Factreton. . Vukubi also reports on the arrest of a 28-year-old suspect when they found him inside a business trying to steal stock. He concludes: “The suspect was caught still inside the business after he gained access through the roof. Cash and airtime vouchers were the items that were allegedly stolen by the suspect.He was arrested and appeared in the Cape Town magistrate court where he was granted R500 bail.”

Last week Tuesday three unknown suspects entered a business in Voortrekker Road, Maitland. They allegedly held the owner, his wife and employee at gun point ordering them to hand over the cash. They took an undisclosed amount of money, but no shots were fired and no injuries were reported. Anyone who has information that can positively lead to the arrest of the suspects is going to be rewarded. The information will be treated as confidential. The City of Cape Town has a strict policy that forbids solid waste collection personnel or any other service personnel from asking residents for “donations”, but according to Shehaam Sims, the city’s mayoral committee member for utility services, incidents

have occurred where people, posing as city staff, have aggressively asked homeowners for money. Residents have also been threatened that waste will not be collected if the demands are not met. “The city will not tolerate such behaviour from our own staff and have accordingly instructed all staff that soliciting for ‘Christmas boxes’ and donations is discouraged,” Sims said. “For all the kids out there, never give up on your dream. You see, me, I’m never giving up on drawing. It’s my talent! Your talent doesn’t have to be drawing, acting or singing. Even if you think you don’t have a talent, all you should do is explore yourself and find what it is you’re good at,” says the remarkable Thando Yedwa. He certainly found his talents – and it’s not only talking sense. Thando and his peers at Abeille Ruche School in Century City entered a DStv Cartoon Network competition and won silver in the national art competition. Kids were asked to come up with a new character for the popular show, The Amazing World of Gumball. There were apparently thousands of entries, but Thando’s character Loly was chosen as runner-up. As a result, Thando won a hamper full of goodies and his school received R4 000. Thando continues: “I first wanted to call the character Lizzie because she reminded me of the Simpsons, but then I called her Loly instead. I started drawing with a friend of mine and we came up with a few character designs, such as cheese people. “So we mixed it up and then the teacher told us that it should fit in with the Gumball family. “I drew a cat girl.” The father of the Gumball family is a bun-

ny and the mother is a cat. The little sister is a rabbit, so Thando thought of making Loly look like the mother. Thando also experimented with Loly’s garments. She didn’t look too hot in a Scottish kilt, so he clothed her in a short, cute dress. “Loly is a typical teen. They talk like, ‘you know girlfriend’,” Thando laughs. “I experiment with cartoon characters all the time!” His principal, Liz Simpson, interrupts: “He is exceptionally talented! You should see his artworks!” The boy-genius has painted “all his life”, but strangely his dream is not to become an artist, but rather an architect or a person who designs cars. He wouldn’t shy away from opening his own art school as well. Suffice to say that Liz is over the moon with Thando’s prize, which after a class vote, will be used to buy a computer for the school. Thando has also donated his drawing to the school, so it will be displayed there indefinitely. Fans of the World of Gumball must keep their eyes on the show, and if they see Loly they must know that the 11-year-old kid from Century City gave her life. The school is holding its annual Art Exhibition on Tuesday, 4 December between 17:00 and 19:00. Thando’s picture, along with art from all the pupils, will be on display. ‘Be more vigilant’ With the festive season fast approaching, Maitland police urge the community to be more vigilant about robberies that occur in their precinct. Members of the community are requested to take the following safety precautions: keep valuables in a safe place all the time, don’t leave valuable items displayed on the seats of the cars, avoid walking alone and in unfamiliar places, don’t walk with large amounts of money with you, refrain from walking with earphones on. Juveniles nabbed Two juveniles (14 and 15 years old) were arrested for robbery last week by Bothasig police. Police spokesperson Noloyiso Rwexana said the station’s officers arrested the juveniles and an adult in Du Noon. “Consts Ruka, Denge and Kriel followed up information after a burglary in Richwood. The men broke into a house and car, stealing a television, clothes and front loader car radio. Some items have been recovered.” The juveniles were released to their parents.

Her own experience of hopelessness has driven a Milnerton woman to do whatever she can to help the plight of those whose futures look equally bleak as hers once did. Deborah Boyes (41) from Milnerton has had a difficult life. Her birth to a teenage mother who didn’t want her was followed by a loveless childhood, an abusive relationship, losing custody of her daughter and eventually being on the street. A chance visit to a church led to someone taking her in. The compassion she experienced here is something she now wishes to extend to others. Deborah started the organisation Boyes Helping Hands, aimed at feeding children, in October 2010, as a Section 21 non-profit company. In September this year it was registered as a Non-Profit Organisation (NPO). “Throughout the trials, tribulations, persecution, loss and tragedies, I have always had a great love for people. Nobody could take that away from me. I love to make people happy, see them smile. It makes me happy to ease somebody else’s pain, to see joy light up a face,” Deborah says. “I do not regret for a moment that which I have experienced in life. It has enabled me to relate to every kind of person. I have had everything, lost everything. I have loved, and I have lost. I have learnt contentment in hunger and thirst, and in being well fed,” she says about her life. Police and shopping mall join hands for 16 Days In partnership with Durbanville police station, the High Street Shopping Village would like to create awareness of 16 Days of Activism, which is an international campaign against women and child abuse. This campaign runs from 25 November to 10 December every year.

This year High Street will be hosting a variety of activities in and around the centre to educate and create awareness of those who live through this abuse at the hands of those they love. Over three weekends they will be hosting markets, women’s self defence classes, bully-proofing classes for children as well as pup-

pet shows and missing children’s kits, – some of the activities will be done by the Durbanville police and others organised by High Street Shopping Village. One of the main events will be a 5 km fun run & walk against abuse, which will be happening on 1 December. All proceeds raised from this event will go to JC After-

care School, Morningstar, Durbanville, an underprivileged school in the area who desperately needs support for the children. This hand over will take place on 10 December. School effort recognised ANDRÉ BAKKES

The Pick n Pay School Club visited three schools in the northern suburbs last week to bestow awards upon the deserving. Learners in Ysterplaat Junior, Goodwood Park Primary and Wingfield Primary received recognition for their efforts in categories Pick n Pay Hero, Lucky Star and Climate Change Awards. There are about 2 500 schools in the country which belong to the School Club. Ysterplaat Junior’s Brandon Burt won the inaugural Hero Award for his “amazing” story. Mariken Schenk from Hdi Youth Marketeers elaborates: “Brandon noticed that thieves were stealing their schools netball poles over a weekend. He reacted swiftly and the Monday he was able to inform the school exactly who stole it and where they took the stolen polls. The police were able to catch the thieves and get the poles back. This is a very heroic act! We admire him for being a true hero and he received R5 000.” Ysterplaat Junior School also received R5 000 “for their continued support of Pick n Pay School Club”. Goodwood Park Primary’s Franchen Nel and Kimberley Hing both received R2 000 in the Lucky Star competition. The entrants had to design a unique fish dish with Lucky Star products, and Schenk says there were loads of entries to choose from.

Franchen and Kimberley often stayed at school after class to perfect their dish and their hard work paid off. Their teacher, Lalagen Esterhuizen, also received R650 for her motivational skills. Finally, Wingfield Primary won

R1 500 in the Climate Change Award category for their submitted portfolio. According to Schenk the school does a whole lot for the environment and even had a Recycling Fashion Show this year. Go to www.schoolclub.co.za.

A new world an attractive idea Some people say the world is going to end on 21 December this year. Others say it will be the dawn of a new era and that all and everything that will not serve the new (better) era, will be “disposed” of. Nobody knows for certain of course, but wouldn’t it be great if we could get rid of all the bad, start afresh with only one thing in mind: the greater good of all. People hunting power and money, ego driven by pure greed in a race where they could never have enough, will hopefully have to go. They won’t serve us in a “better” era. Politicians encouraging people to break down, destroy, hurt and even kill others for political gain, like in our beautiful Boland and the Gaza strip right now, will have to go. If there’s no love and respect for honest work, mother nature, infrastructure, fellow countrymen and their innocent families, you won’t fit in! Corporate high flyers, more interested in their own pockets and nurturing their egos by covering their tracks at all cost, while disregarding people’s feelings or hard work, will have to hit the road. In fact, capitalism will have to go. It isolates people, ignores loving relationships, breeds lying, cheating and dishonesty, all in the name of “good business”. Yes, a “new world” with love, hope, peace, honesty and respect for each other, may not be such a bad idea after all.

To Kobi Lombaard and J van der Spuy, who have written to the TygerBurger in defence of “the creche” in Melkbosstrand. It is abundantly clear that you have never gone through the trauma of having the state medical forensic examiner look you in the eyes and tell you that he has bad news for you – while performing an internal vaginal or anal exam on your child while they innocently sit on your lap. You have absolutely no idea what that can possibly feel like. You have even less knowledge of the ongoing trauma a family has to endure, simply trying to get justice for what has been done to their child, the psychiatric processes that have to be followed in order to establish who did this to them, not to mention the shortcomings of the judicial system in this country. The very system that you think is going to protect you and your children, will simply tell you that they will not prosecute the perpetrator at this stage, simply because they

feel your child is too young to testify and due to our judicial system being an accusatorial one, they need to be able to withstand cross examination regardless of their age. They will then tell you to feel free to come back to them when your child is older. However, I do completely agree with you that there are good teachers and staff, that do good work and really do care about the children at that school. However, what the area certainly does not need is a serial paedophile! Someone who not only sexually violates children under the age of four, but then threatens them with the most unspeakable things in order to keep them from telling anyone. Bring us the good news Your editorial this week (“Fokus eerder of dit wat goed is”, TygerBurger 14 November) was spot-on and made me think of the reasons why people including myself are in a negative frame of mind at present. When the World Cup was on, you could sense a feeling of joy, a feeling that South Africans were all part of one nation. This has dissipated since then and we all know the reasons why. The media is a powerful tool and is capable of turning the mood of a nation around. All we need is to focus on what is good, but this does not sell newspapers. One only needs to read the posters on the street poles every morning. Rarely is it good news and maybe this contributes to the decline in sales experienced by the mainstream papers. Community papers like yourselves can assist by headlining uplifting stories and relegating the bad news to page two. Life on street was terrible It is indeed the best way Marc Buhrer and Shane McConnachi (“Life on the streets”, 14 November) can show any one of us in a better position than the homeless, to be grateful for what we have. I was once in an abusive relationship in 2007 and preferred to sleep outside the “home”. Three nights spread over a couple of weeks, away from the abuse, even though I wasn’t homeless. The chaos at “home” was scary. I once slept in a derelict house, home to other homeless and it was horrible. They were kind to me, though. And I thought, “never again”. A hard cement floor and blowing wind gave me no sleep. Again let’s show our gratitude for our support networks, comforts, jobs, homes, vehicles – anything we can think of – by sharing when we can, and even giving just a smile to a sad face. HOW MYCITI IS CHANGING? New buses coming to Table View

ll around the Table View area new MyCiTi bus stops and shelters have been constructed, or are nearing completion. Most noticeable is the special paving and kerb material that will allow convenient level boarding for passengers when new smaller buses begin to operate on two of the routes from 1 December. There will be a gradual changeover in the Table View area, with the new stops being used instead of the nearby temporary poles. The new buses will initially be used on the following routes: F15 Parklands East – Table View – Blouberg Sands and F16 Marine Circle – Table View – Blouberg Sands. The advanced design and comfort will take the MyCiTi service a step forward as a passenger experience, while the modern Euro 5-compliant engines will cut emissions, making these buses

friendly to both people and the planet. Bicycles and surfboards will still be welcome on board, and there is a dedicated place for wheelchair passengers, too.

Blaauwberg Road progress Construction work is continuing along Blaauwberg Road, but residents can look forward to April next year. This is the planned date for the opening of the dedicated lane from Table View station to the new Grey, Janssens and Wood stations, and the launch of the new routes around Table View and surrounds.

The City of Cape Town thanks residents for their patience during the construction of the MyCiTi system, which is beginning to make a real difference to life in this part of Cape Town.

Cape Town resident Tatjana Meirelles recently set herself a challenge - to leave her car at home for a whole week. She cycled to work for most of this week but when it was windy, she hopped on board the MyCiTi bus. She also caught the bus to shop at the

Waterfront and to watch the ﬁreworks at Blouberg Beach for Guy Fawkes. Delighted by her experience, she wrote a letter to the MyCiTi team: “I would just like to say THANK YOU for all the time and effort that MyCiTi and the City of Cape Town have put into making this transport service a reality,” she wrote. “The buses were clean, comfortable and on time – and an absolute pleasure to use. “Boererate” have been used since the early 1800s. Stokkies van Zyl, an engineer from Namaqualand, is now offering a traditional remedy that has been in his family for many generations. This “boereraat” proved its effectiveness when Stokkies sustained severe burn wounds from his elbow down to his hand in 2006 during an accident on a mining site. His doctor suggested that the tissue and muscle damage were so severe that his hand should be amputated. Stokkies decided to try out the Brandsalf balm which his grandmother had told him about. After using the balm for just three days he went back to his doctor, who could not believe his eyes. The damaged skin had dramatically healed with the use of Brandsalf. The signs of inflammation and bacterial infection (associated with burn wounds) were reduced drastically. Within days a man who thought he might lose his arm was working again. Diabetes Awareness Day Last week Wednesday was World Diabetes Day, a day aimed at creating awareness amongs individuals to help them understand what diabetes is all about and how to overcome any fears about the disease. “There are two types of diabetes, which are called Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes. Both are manageable and can be treated if correctly diagnosed,” says Derrick Banks, ER24 He explains: Type 1 diabetes is a lifelong disease in which high levels of sugar is in the blood. This type 1 diabetes can occur at any age but is mostly found in children, teenagers or young adults. The cause of Type 1 is unknown but it’s believed that it’s some disorder that your body has developed which can be passed down through the families. In Type 1 there is usually too little or no insulin which causes sugar to build up in the bloodstream, making it unable to go back in the cells, and the body is unable to use the sugar for energy. Some symptoms that you should look out for are, being very thirsty, feeling hungry, tired or fatigued, losing weight without trying and going to the toilet more often.

If you have been diagnosed with Type 1, you will need to manage your diabetes, knowing how to treat and recognise if you have low or high blood sugar, that you have the correct eating plan and how to give yourself insulin if needed. Unlike people with Type 1 diabetes, people with Type 2 diabetes produce insulin but their pancreas does not produce enough insulin or the body cannot use the insulin adequately. “This is when there isn’t enough insulin or the insulin is not used as it should be so the sugar can’t get into the body’s cells. When sugar builds up in the blood instead of going into cells, the body’s cells are not able to function properly. With Type 2 diabetes anybody is able to get it but people who are more at risk of being diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes are people over the age of 45, are overweight, family history of diabetes or possibility of high blood pressure.” With both types of diabetes the long-term goals are both the same in treatment. By controlling your blood pressure and cholesterol with enough exercise and a healthy eating plan, doing regular self-testing of your blood to make sure your sugar levels are okay. Adult onset allergies on the rise says expert Allergies, including those that first appear in adulthood, are on the rise. Dr Mike Levin, allergy advisor to Pharma Dynamics, says the sudden appearance of an allergy despite decades of symptom-free health is not as uncommon as before. “Even if you didn’t grow up with allergies, it is entirely possible to start suffering from them as an adult. You can enjoy a peanut butter sandwich for 20 years only to one day discover, out of the blue, that you are allergic to nuts. “Although we do not have substantial data on allergy rates in this country, it is clear that allergies, especially those that appear in adulthood, are climbing dramatically and are likely to continue to rise in the near future,” says Levin. He says allergies may develop later in life, because one had allergic potential to begin with, which was later triggered by respiratory infections over time; the higher concentrations of airborne pollutants; rising dust mite populations; less ventilation in homes and offices; dietary factors or an inactive life-

R&B singer, Loyiso Bala, is sharing the good news.

Loyiso Bala will be at Grand West this weekend.

“Gospel is everything that promotes what is good, that’s why we call it the good news,” said Loyiso, whose latest Christian offerings are doing phenomenally well. Loyiso recently released his live gospel CD and DVD, Love Complete, marking a completely new direction for the talented performer. He even turned down a record deal in the States to start moving in this new direction. “I just felt a call to do this gospel album,” he says. “There was a new sound in my head that I hadn’t heard before,” Loyiso says. “It was absolutely a faith move; I was doing what was in my heart.” He points out that the responses from interviews and social media have been amazing. “I just receive so much more love for what I do now,” he says. “People love seeing someone who stands for something,” Loyiso adds,

stating that he believes that there is a lack of men who are willing to do that. His new album has sold three times more than his previous albums and he believes that the move has definitely solidified his fan base, but Loyiso isn’t doing this for fame. “I can see that what I am doing is making a difference,” he says. “I’ve received enough recognition in my life.” “When I did this, I was at the top of my game,” he says, adding that while he seemingly had everything, he felt empty. “It’s in giving, that I am now going to receive,” he says. Loyiso will be performing at the Grand Arena this Saturday, alongside Danny K and several popular Cape Town performers, as well as the Settlers High School Choir and the Limited Edition Drum Corps for Rocking our City. The Fuzzbox are hosting a benefit show on Sunday for Cape Town drummer, Alan Thwaites. Alan, a reluctant beneficiary, is undergoing surgery on his elbow, after an injury. TygerBurger readers may know Alan from the bands Feedback, Blue Steel and more recently, Kiss the Sky. The surgery has left him unable to play, with rising medical bills. The Fuzz Boxers hope to help reduce his medical costs. The benefit will start at

Jancke is die wenner van die TygerBurger se Sportster van die Maand-toekenning. “Dit was ’n ongelooflike voorreg om my land te verteenwoordig in Switserland met die internasionale kompetisie wat in September plaasgevind het. “Dit is ook baie interessant om die ander lande se tegniek te sien en net hul manier van dinge doen. Switserland, Chinese-Taipei en Nederland is baie goed. “Ek het in twee afdelings deelgeneem – die 540 kg vir vroue en 600 kg gemeng. In albei afdelings het ons vierde

plekke behaal,” vertel Jancke. Daar is geen tyd om te rus vir dié talentvolle sportvrou nie. Daar word reeds hard geoefen vir volgende jaar se binnenshuise wêreldspele, wat van 25 Julie tot 4 Augustus in Columbia aangebied word. Outclassing the 1 Metre Class LEON STEENKAMP

A group of 17 radio controlled sailboat enthusiasts took part in the seventh annual Table Mountain Regatta that was held at the Milnerton Aquatic Club (MAC) over the weekend.

The participants from Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal (KZN), Knysna, George and Cape Town had to contend with a gale-force south-easter on the first day of the competition. On Sunday the conditions were more favourable with a moderate south-westerly wind nudging the boats along on the waters of Rietvlei. All boats were competing in the International One Metre (IOM) class. This is an International class with the boats being one metre long. Boats may be rigged with three suits of sails for varying wind conditions. Whilst a beginner to the sport can start off with a R6 000 second-hand boat, those passionate about the hobby can spend up to R50 000 on their vessel. One race constitutes two rounds around a triangle route. During the competition a total of 32 races were completed. In the end it was Table View’s Craig Richards who successfully defended his title. In the second spot was another MAC local Barry Loubser, followed by Des Fairbank from KZN.

Racing is in the blood for WP Karting Champ A young race kart driver from Melkbosstrand this weekend clinched the Western Province Karting Championship for the Maxterino Class. Dario Busi (10) won his class with a total of 694 points, followed by Matthew Isaac (653) and Aidan Strydom (635). Dario, a Grade 4 pupil at Elkanah House Senior Primary, started honing his driving skills at the age of four riding a kart. He competed against 13-year-olds and has been maintaining the lead in the championship since the first race meeting of the year. Last year saw him move up to this big class and he finished third overall in the championship. His dream is to race single seaters. His brother who is also well known to the racing fraternity also started karting at the age of four. He became the Western Province GP

Juniors champion in 2006 and again in 2008, 2009 and 2010. He also received the Scheckter Young Achiever of the year award and has received junior and senior WP colours and then went on at the age of 14 to race main circuit in a VW Golf in the GTI Challenge series, currently leading the championship. Dario comes from a family with a strong history in racing. Both his paternal grandfather and father competed in main circuit racing whilst his uncle was crowned South African Champion for Karting Rok Cup. Dario’s father competed with the likes of Derick Irving, Michael Stephen and Tschops Siphuka and was awarded “Driver Of The Year” whilst his grandfather John Cuyler competed with the likes of Sarel van der Merwe, Terry Moss and Allan Moss and won the East Cape Championships in 1977, 1978, 1979, 1985 and 2008.

Third spot in world ranking LEON STEENKAMP

A good performance in the remaining half of the IFWA World Tour has seen local jetskier Jake Montandon finish third in the world. TygerBurger in June reported on Montandon’s performance at the first two legs of the tour, in Portugal and France, where he finished fourth and third respectively. Travelling to Oregon, USA in September for the third leg of the tour, Montandon was tied third on the overall rankings. A fourth place here kept him in the third position. “The competition was tough as there were a lot of very talented riders competing there. I was also riding a different ski, which was very narrow and light and not ideal for the big waves and messy conditions on the day,” he said. “I was very fit before I left so in the days before the competition I trained a lot to get used to the ski. I told myself I would rather be more comfortable, than tired on the ski during the competition. But I was dead at the end of the competition from all the additional training,”

he explained. He was forced to again ride a different ski when he competed in Picarras, Brazil from 2 to 4 November. “My jetski – a 700cc stock standard model – broke during the practise but it proved to be a blessing in disguise. All the other guys were riding 900cc or 1 000cc skis.” A borrowed 950cc Rickter ski proved more competent in pulling off big aerial tricks in the mere half foot waves on competition day. “So it was a blessing, if it wasn’t for the more powerful ski, I would have been stuffed,” he said. His points standing at that stage meant that if he made it into the final and didn’t win he could still secure the second spot in the series. “Only two points separated me from Zack Bright (USA). It was however not meant to be and he was eliminated in the semi-final. Montandon is already looking forward to next year’s tour. “Plans to include Australia as part of the tour is exciting. My sponsor wants me to go, regardless if these plans come through,” he said. This was his second year competing in the tour. Last year he finish sixth in the world.
