Cooking 64 000 meals per month is no easy feat – even unfathomable some would say! But for the dedicated staff at Shiloh Food Relief in Brackenfell, it’s a daily labour of love. For hours every day, Joleen Evers, Arlene Adams-Roslind, Tembela Ntungwa and Lumka Solani, chop up copious amounts of fresh vegetables to brew wholesome healthy stews in gigantic pots. These meals are then packed, frozen and distributed to the ends of the Western Cape to alleviate widespread hunger. This worthwhile charity organisation was chosen to be the beneficiary of the inaugural “We Luv Wine” festival to be held at the CapeGate Shopping Centre in June. TygerBurger is a proud media sponsor for this event, which promises to become an annual feature on the festival calendar. Leading up to the event local chef Shaun Schoeman from well-known restaurant Fyndraai at Solms-Delta winery near Franschhoek, visited the kitchens of Shiloh Relief on Thursday where he shared some insights with the kitchen and cookery team and judged the efforts of personnel who were invited to create their own meals, using typical ingredients from the Shiloh weekly menu. Three of the kitchen staff and driver Pie-

ter Kleinhans impressed Shaun with their own versions of Cape traditional dishes such as curry and rice and tomato stew. But in the end, after a difficult decision it was Pieter’s cabbage and samp and Arlene’s breyani that won Shaun over. Shaun has been executive chef at Fyndraai for for four years where he is well known for his trademark traditional South African dishes. He will host the two winners for lunch at Fynbos this week where the “We Luv Wine” festival, will be launched. The wine fest takes place at the Cape Gate Shopping Precinct on Thursday 20 June and Friday 21 June from 17:00 to 21:00. More than 100 wines from the Orange River area, Worcester, Paarl, Stellenbosch and the Swartland region will feature. Some of the wineries participating are: Avontuur Estate, Groenland, Hidden Valley, Koelenhof, Du Toitskloof, Landskroon, Orange River Cellars, and Riebeek Cellars. Many exhibitors will present related products like cheese and olives. Comfy lounge seating and and a café-style eating area are yours to enjoy. V Tickets cost R50 per person which includes a tast ing glass and are available at the information desks in the CapeGate Centre and at www.ticket break.co.za. Tickets will also be available at the door. For more information contact Cobie van Oort at 021 981 0216 or cobie@cvomarketing.co.za.
