HOME IN NYC: MISSES KRAAIFONTEIN, CURRY BUNNIES Eugon McNeil, an international model, originally from Kraaifontein.

Taking the world by storm AVRIL FILLIES

I

nternational model Eugon McNeil (24) from Scottsville, now residing in Brooklyn in New York, had no idea that he was voted South Africa’s most handsome man alive in 2020. Only when he was tagged in a post by Jeannie D, well-known television presenter, he became aware of his latest award. He is currently a model of Q Manage Modelling in New York but the Base Modelling Agency in Cape Town gave him his first break “It wasn’t always my dream to venture off into modelling, it spontaneously happened and the free-spirited person I am, took up the opportunity. “I was assigned for my first fashion show in Milan at the age of 17 in 2014 while I was still at Brackenfell High School. “I had to write my matric English exam paper at 08:00 the morning to catch the flight at 12:00 for Milan and from there my career took off. “Places I’ve worked in include Malaysia, Hong Kong, Milan, Paris, Shanghai, New York, Los Angeles and Berlyn. I am hoping to come to Cape Town as soon as travel is allowed. “I’ve previously worked with other models like Tyson Beckford, Nicole Meyer, David Agbodji and Adonis Bosso but hope to work with my good friend Carmen Solomons,” Eugon says.

He hates the cold weather in New York and tends to avoid it by heading back to Cape Town when it is winter in the United States of America (USA) and Europe and go back when it is summer again, “to have 365 days of summer”, he chuckles. “The food I miss from home is definitely the potjie made by uncle Hennie Janson from Kraaifontein and the curry bunnies of my grandmothers Sybil Maart and Valerie Ontong. But most of all I miss the family and friends back home. “I attended Eikendal Primary School before I went to Brackenfell High and when I am in Cape Town I like to visit my school friends. “I cannot get used to the fact that when I am home and walk in the streets in Scottsville people stops me to take a picture or have a chat, just because of modelling,” he says. In the Big Apple, he relaxes by hanging out in Central Park, venturing off in and around New York, cycling and visiting all the hotspots. “I have visited quite a few tourist attractions and my favourite is the top of the Empire State Building at sunrise and sunset plus the Brooklyn Bridge. I cannot wait to come back home as soon as travelling is allowed. “At Brackenfell High, I was a hurdles athlete and I keep fit by working out and doing some mountain climbing. “I usually come back home every three to six months and cannot wait for my next visit,” Eugon says.
