T
he murder investigation of Lt Col Charl Kinnear has been handed over to the Hawks. Kinnear was a senior detective in the Western Cape’s anti-gang unit. He was gunned down in front of his Bishop Lavis home in Gearing Street on Friday 18 Sep-
tember. Bishop Lavis police spokesperson WO Joseph Swartbooi, confirmed that the case was handed over. “The circumstances surrounding the murder of one of the top cops in the province is under investigation. “At about 15:00, police officers rushed to Gearing Road in Bishop Lavis after receiving a complaint of a shooting incident that just occurred. Upon arrival they found the lifeless body of a 52-year-old man behind
the steering wheel of a vehicle. He sustained multiple gunshot wounds to the body and was declared deceased. Suspects are unknown and yet to be arrested,” said Swartbooi. The Forensics for Justice non-profit organisation, led by forensic investigator Paul O’Sullivan, has issued a R1 million reward for information. O’Sullivan said in a statement: “Foren-
sics for Justice cannot and will not stand idly by whilst the criminal underworld assassinates ethical, hardworking cops at will. Having fought to rid the criminal justice system of the evil of corruption for so many years, we will not let the Western Cape become the province that will take South Africa on a slippery slope to lawlessness.
