Eerste konsert as dirigent
BONTEHEUWEL: PLAYER OFF TO DALLAS NEXT YEAR
‘Soccer is therapeutic’ TARRYN-LEIGH SOLOMONS @tarryns07
A
Bonteheuwel teenager has been scouted to play in the annual International Youth Football tournament in Dallas Texas next year. Jamie-Lee Visagie (17), who attends Arcadia High School, says he is “over the moon”
about his selection. He started playing soccer when he was eight. Jamie-Lee describes the sport as therapeutic: “If you play sport, all your problems go away, all the negative thoughts. Sport brings positivity in your life. “I feel overwhelmed by my selection because there are many other players that
could’ve been selected, but they chose me.” His journey began in 2009 when he started playing for Sea Point Swifts Athletic Football Club. In 2012, he moved over to Phantom Orient. “Both teams are based in Bonteheuwel and play on the Metropolitan Sports Field. In 2013 I started playing for First National (FN) Rangers, based in Maitland, an I’m still playing for them.”
He practices a minimum of twice a week: “But sometimes if it’s a busy schedule ahead, then we practice three to four times a week.” Soccer, he says, is a tool he uses to express himself. “I feel that it is the only place that I can truly express myself and have fun while doing it. The position I play is centre-back.” V To page 2.
