isantekraal Centre for Development (FCD) has won the battle to keep its doors open for another two months next year before the centre need to vacate its current premises at the Durbanville taxi rank. Despite being instructed by the City of Cape Town to vacate its premises at the taxi rank by end of January next year, the Fisantekraal Centre for Development (FCD) did not take it lying down. FCD has informed the City’s Tygerberg property leasing branch in a letter on 28 October that this non-profit organisation is unable to vacate the premises before end of March next year. This came after the FCD had been given three months notice by the City on 21 October to vacate its current premises to make way for new development at the taxi rank. The R4 million upgrade of the Durbanville public transport interchange (PTI) has been identified in the Integrated Development Plan for 2017 to 2022, as well as in the subcouncil business plans for the current term of office,” James Vos, Mayco member for economic opportunities and asset management of the City, said to TygerBurger (“Centre gut-punched”, 30 October). “This may include accommodating PTI management staff, as well as auxiliary services such as law enforcement staff,” he said.
