Following dreams The cast of Durbanville Preparatory School’s Follow That Dream production went to entertain the seniors at Villa Cortona in Durbanville. The story went back in time to World War 1 and World War 11 and the seniors enjoyed reminiscing along with the many war songs and the storyline, Lesley Greenwood, one of the directors, said. Dennis Scrace, one of the seniors who enjoyed the show, is seen here with Kevin van der Bergh (left), who played the role of Toby, and Jean le Roux, who played the role of Oli. The boys became best friends when they grew up in the orphanage together during the war years, but they still followed their dreams and became a pilot and a doctor respectively. “We have been blessed with a very successful production and we always like giving back and sharing the joy with our Durbanville community,” Greenwood said. KICKSTART: DURBANVILLE SENIORS’ HUB

Care for the elderly ESMÉ ERASMUS @erasmusesme

urbanville Seniors’ Hub (DSH) received a kickstart to register as a non-profit organisation when 20 people signed up as founder members at its general meeting.

At the meeting on Thursday 14 November, Durbanville Lions Club also made its clubhouse in Queen Street (near Rosehaven) available for the next meeting of DSH on 23 January. DSH is an organisation that strives to start a service centre and hub for seniors in Durbanville.

The constitution of the organisation was also discussed. Surentia Snÿman of 1st at Home Care, chair of the steering committee, said the reasoning in South Africa is that aged people need to go to retirement facilities or frailcare centres, while they can still live in their own homes with assistance.

“Developers build retirement villages and often make promises they do not always adhere to. The elderly need to know there are services and support available,” she said. “We need a facility to go forward, and we need it now, but to wait for a facility to be donated, is not an option. V To page 2.
