WINE FEST: SELECTS SHILOH AS BENEFICIARY

‘We Luv Wine’ charity DESIREÉ RORKE

ooking 64 000 meals per month is no easy feat – even unfathomable some would say! But for the dedicated staff at Shiloh Food Relief in Brackenfell, it’s a daily labour of love. For hours every day, Joleen Evers, Arlene Adams-Roslind, Tembela Ntungwa and Lumka Solani, chop up copious amounts of fresh vegetables to brew wholesome healthy

stews in gigantic pots. These meals are then packed, frozen and distributed across the Western Cape to alleviate widespread hunger among the poor.

Beneficiary This worthwhile charity organisation was chosen to be the beneficiary of the inaugural “We Luv Wine” festival to be held at the CapeGate Shopping Centre in June. TygerBurger is a proud media sponsor for this event, which promises to become an an-

nual feature on the festival calendar. Leading up to the event local chef Shaun Schoeman from well-known restaurant Fyndraai at Solms-Delta winery near Franschhoek, visited the kitchens of Shiloh Relief on Thursday where he shared some insights with the kitchen and cookery team and judged the efforts of personnel who were invited to create their own meals, using typical ingredients from the Shiloh weekly menu. Three of the kitchen staff and driver Pieter

Kleinhans impressed Shaun with their own individual versions of Cape traditional dishes such as curry and rice and tomato stew. But in the end, after a difficult decision it was Pieter’s cabbage and samp and Arlene’s breyani that won Shaun over. “These people can cook!” he said. Shaun has been executive chef at Fyndraai for for four years where he is well known for his trademark traditional South African dishes. V To page 2.
