MUDDLE OVER VOTING RIGHTS: DOCS VS SAPS
Election going ahead DESIRÉE RORKE @dezzierorke
T
he long overdue election of the executive of Brackenfell Community Policing Forum (CPF), will go ahead next month
during an annual meeting. This comes after a heated dispute between the provincial CPF board and the national department of community safety (Docs) over voting rights for CPF elections, resulting in the then acting provin-
cial police commissioner Lt Genl Sindile Mfazi, placing a moratorium on all CPF annual meetings and elections in October last year. Subsequently the CPF meeting scheduled in Brackenfell for 30 October 2019 had to be cancelled.
Chair of Brackenfell CPF, Werner Victor on Friday confirmed that the annual meeting will now go ahead on 3 February. “We received a communication from the Tygerberg police cluster to go ahead with the annual meeting and election.

“However, we are still awaiting instruction from the Brackenfell police station commander as to which set of election rules to use in terms of voting rights; that of Docs or that of the police,” Victor said. V To page 2.
