Awards just keep flowing in
ANDRÉ BAKKES Take a good look at 13-year-old Goodwood Primary pupil Zara Scott. She is the epitome of dedication and the epitome of success. The head girl recently won a record number of awards at the school’s prizegiving – so many that when she is asked “How many”, she responds “I think it’s 42 certificates... Oh, and I received about 17 trophies as well.” If a mathematically challenged journalist had to double check the number then it might well take an hour to verify... So let’s leave it at that. TygerBurger investigated the Scott’s residence to come up with a logical reason why Zara is so gifted. There was nothing out of the ordinary stocked in the fridge and the house seemed pretty ordinary as well. Zara owns a poodle named Cuddles. Barring the remote possibility that Cuddles exhales IQ enhancing carbon dioxide, nothing in the house seems to explain why Zara is a musical, cultural and academic superstar. Her mother, Noelene, is obviously very proud of her daughter. “I think she got it from her dad,” laughs Noelene. Future Fairbairn College learner, Zara, elaborates on her awards: “They were given to me for mainly academic and cultural related subjects. Mostly Eisteddfod.” TygerBurger asks her to list as many awards as possible in 30 seconds, but Zara “hasn’t had time to scrutinise” her awards. When she doesn’t sing, she plays the piano, plays netball and studies and studies. After looking everywhere in the house for the “secret” to her success and finding only an excited dog and an organised fridge, TygerBurger concedes defeat and asks: “What is the secret to your success?” She answers: “I just believe that I will always be a winner. Believing that you will do well is half the battle. Hard work is also very important...”
