In Preparation for an Excellent Year Howdy! Another school year is fast approaching here in the beautiful Texas-Oklahoma District of CKI, which means not only is it time to start buying books and sharpening pencils, but to start preparing your clubs for the upcoming year as well.

This special issue of the T-O Tomorrow is being published to help you as club officers get ready for the fun, the challenges, the opportunities, and the excitement this year has to offer. The district board has pulled together and written a variety of articles in order to inform you about all the different things we have occurring this year in the district, and also to lend a hand with the difficulties the first few months of school always present to clubs. The T-O

District itself currently has 26 clubs and just over 600 members. However, considering that T-O is a district traditionally known for being the best of the best in ever K Family branch,

our goal should be to get as many new members this year as possible. This issue of the T-O Tomorrow contains tips on how to recruit new members and plan a blitz week, making it simple to double the size of your club throughout the course

of the year. There is also information on how to navigate the new and improved website; a run down of the different programs the district is sponsoring this year; information about Fall Retreat; a heads up about FTC’s; even a letter from our international trustee, Jenny Kelly. All in all, this issue of the newsletter is your ticket to knowing everything that’s going on this year in T-O. Tour of Service

The 06-07 Texas-Oklahoma district board has put together a tour to travel our great district. The tour consists of five stops, one in each division, hosted by the local CKI chapter. Each chapter will set up a service project and possibly a social event for the members of the T-O district to participate

in. The tour’s focus is on unifying the district by giving ample opportunities for interclubs, service, and fellowship. We invite all members of CKI to make the trip around T-O, get to know their fellow CKI’ers, and to enjoy both of our beautiful states. Below is the list of the dates, locations, and host-

ing schools:

•September 9th: University of Central Oklahoma, Edmond, OK

The Passport Program

Some of the projects we may find ourselves doing will involve tutoring and reading one on one with children, delivering warm food to homeless people during the winter, even cleaning up and repairing playgrounds. We want to show the world that

By Governor Jon Shaw The Passport Program was designed by the T-O district board to promote and encourage chapters to participate in interclubs. An interclub is when 4 or more members from your chapter travel under 100 miles to go to a Key Club, a CKI, or Kiwanis event.

An interclub is also when 2 or more members from your chapter travel over 100 miles to attend a function. When visiting another chapter, you will have the host

club sign your “passport” to verify your attendance. In your club’s passport, you will find six pages: a district events page, a CKI page, a Key Club page, a Kiwanis page, a Builders Club page, and a KKids page.

If your club has not received your passport, don’t worry. Contact the district board and we will be more than happy to send you it via mail or in person! Successful completion of the Passport Program

includes having signatures for the following: WOW, FTC, Fall Retreat, Spring Rally, DCON, 3 CKI interclubs, 4 Key Club interclubs, and 4 Kiwanis interclubs.

All chapters that successfully complete the Passport Program will be recognized at the 2007 District Convention, and the club that goes above and beyond will receive an award.

Keep in mind that Tour of Service stops count for the Passport Program if you achieve an interclub!

By Secretary Adriana Casas Fall semester is an extremely important time for preparing and structuring your club, but don't worry if you haven't gotten it all figured out yet, because Fall Training Conferences are almost here! In the fall, T-O

TOMORROW

your division's LTG will host a Fall Training Conference at a school in your division. A typical FTC consists of leadership workshops, ice breakers, a C.O.W. (Chair Officer Workshop), and of course either a divisional lunch or dinner followed by a social. Not only will your division’s FTC be an event where you can catch up on district

events, but it will also be a place where you can catch up with CKI’ers from your division. For more information on this once a year event, contact your division's lieutenant governor.

Member Recruitment and Blitz Week

By Editor Stephanie Mills With a goal of 3,000 members, the TMake a display that is colorful and O Disinviting. Here are some things to consider.

1) Blitz week usually takes place the second or third week of school, and it usually involves different events every night.

Try not to plan your blitz week the same week as Greek rush. You can do a fund-

raiser (this is as easy as eating at a restaurant that will split profits with you), a service project (cleaning a park followed by a picnic?), an interclub with Kiwanians (can you say barbeque, maybe a little Midnight Rodeo later on?), game night to introduce old members (Catch Phrase is perfect for this), and at the end of the week or on the weekend, have a party (boys love Texas Hold ‘Em Tournaments!).

2) Make sure every new member feels welcomed. Design committees expressly for new members. Give them the task of designing their own service project together. You get a good service project as well as involved new members.

3) Bring new members in on traditions. If

you always go grab Chipotle after the meetings, bring them along. If you have football parties or go tailgating, make sure they know when and where.

4) Use the freshman buddy system to make sure everyone has a ride to all the events.

5) When doing recruitment, try to hand out things people will keep (i.e. flyer tied to pencil, pamphlet in a cup with location of meetings written on it).

6) Advertise the community service side of CKI, but also the leadership training and social activities.

Of course you do! That’s why you’ll want to attend Fall Retreat, which will have all this and more.

We will be having interactive (non-lecturing) workshops, never before seen group building activities, a bridge competition, and even our very own round of Jeopardy. Fall Retreat is going to be better than ever this year, and this weekend filled with fellowship, leadership, amazing memories, and unforgettable experiences is one you won’t want to miss!

A Note from the International Trustee Dear Texas-Oklahoma, I would like to begin by serving up a few reminders for those of you going to celebrate your year of service in Boston for International Convention. The amendment packet has been posted on-line for your viewing pleasure. I encourage each of you, whether you are going to ICON or not, to read the “Case for Change” Jenny Kelly, our educational piece which International describes the structure Trustee, will be changes being proposed in retired at ICON. the house. I am open to having an on-line chat, or answering e-mails and phone calls regarding your

questions or concerns with these changes. Below is a brief idea of the changes that would occur by passing the amendments and resolutions being proposed:

Districts would be replaced by regions;

The CKI Board of Trustees would be replaced by a CKI Board of Representatives;

•

Club structures could change;

•

Clubs would pay a club fee instead of annual district and international dues.

As this will be my last article

for your district I would like to thank each of you for your service and dedication to CKI. It has been a true honor to serve Texas-Oklahoma and I am thrilled to be leaving my position with new friends and great memories.

It has been a true pleasure serving as your liaison.
