WHAT AWAITS YOU ON YOUR DRAGON PATHWAY?

A Clear, Detailed Plan

Your Dragon Pathway will provide clarity and structure to help you maximize your college experience and stay on course to graduation.

A Program Guide

Your pathway will detail a term-by-term sequence of academic courses, all planned around your specific goals and interests.

Prepared to the Core – The Dragon Education Core (DEC) Curriculum spans four years and will equip you with essential 21st-century competencies – the ability to think critically, communicate clearly, work collaboratively and apply problem-solving skills.

As Real as It Gets TU offers more than 50 degree-granting programs – each focused on the practical work in your field, each taught via an immersive, hands-on study led by professors who bring real-world experience.

Advice Along the Way

Advisors and mentors will meet with you each semester to review your objectives, assess your progress and explore opportunities with you.

Hands-on Learning

You’ll acquire competencies through hands-on activities outside the classroom that align with, and elevate, lessons learned in your curriculum.

Alert to Your Needs

Our early alert system is a way to identify and reach out if at any time you struggle to keep up in your classes, so we can help you get back on track.

ACTIVE LEARNING.

AN IMMERSIVE APPROACH.

Is there any better way to learn than to learn by doing? As one of our students recently commented, “I remember and grasp things better when I’m more involved.” And it’s true. Textbooks are an invaluable part of any education, but it is when lessons are applied that learning truly takes off. It’s why, from day one, hands-on learning is an integral part of a Tiffin University education. Active engagement – it makes learning more interesting. It makes learning more real. It makes learning more fun.

Beyond the Textbook

At TU, hands-on learning takes many forms: immersive classroom activities, group projects, labs, research, internships, professional projects, field trips, community service and more.

Professors With Experience

TU professors know of what they speak. Our faculty bring years of industry experience, enriching learning by sharing real-life stories of how theory is actually applied in the real world.

Where Learning Takes Off

Tiffin University’s Drone Academy gives students the knowledge, tools and firsthand experience they need to become successful drone professionals. The only one of its kind in the state, the Drone Academy is where students can learn and get FAA-certified in how to operate and use drones in a variety of industry environments.

“Great

Idea!”

Project Pitch is a semesterlong program designed for student entrepreneurs, teaching them how to professionally bring their innovative ideas to reality. From ideation and product

discover yourself as well.

Professional Advisor

Your Professional Advisor will assist you with researching your majors of interest, then help you develop a unique plan of study. Throughout your four years together, you’ll review academic courses, explore professional learning opportunities and identify relevant campus activities in which to participate. Each semester, you’ll review your progress and modify your Dragon Pathway as needed.

Faculty Advisor

Your Faculty Advisor, typically a professor from your major, will serve as a personal mentor, helping you to pursue your academic and career goals. Drawing on years of industry experience and professional connections, your Faculty Advisor will provide a real-world perspective and counsel, while helping you explore experiential learning opportunities, including internships, job shadowing, networking as well as graduate and professional school preparation.

Attentive Professors

TU faculty work one-onone with their students –here, there are no teaching assistants. If you have questions, you’ll work directly with your professor, a knowledgeable and experienced expert in the field. You’ll form meaningful connections, which will lead to more engaged learning and often to professional learning and employment opportunities.

Career Services

TU’s Career Services offers practical programs to help you along your pathway in preparation for a successful career. Working side-by-side with TU’s career professionals, you’ll write effective resumes. You’ll sharpen your interviewing skills. You’ll learn about professional dress and business etiquette. You’ll hone your internship and job search strategies. You’ll become skilled and confident, and ready for success.

Advising Never Stops

Advising doesn’t end when you graduate from TU. Relationships with each of your advisors during your four years here are lasting – they are truly lifelong. With the close bonds formed, as a graduate you’ll feel comfortable reaching out and asking for advice long after you graduate. Your personalized Dragon Pathway is one that never stops.

CAREER-READY SKILLS.

AT THE CORE OF TU.

The Dragon Education Core (DEC) is a series of core classes designed to give students the foundational knowledge, skills and professional attributes to be successful not only in college, but also in life. Beginning in freshman year and continuing through senior year, DEC equips TU students with the interpersonal skills, life skills and cultural competencies needed to be an innovative contributor and leader in the 21st-century workplace.

DEC SKILLS FOR SUCCESS

Communication

Whether speaking or writing, effective communicators are able to present information clearly, concisely and accurately so that others can understand.

Critical Thinking

Critical thinkers are problem solvers who are able to analyze situations, gather information, weigh options and make informed, reasonable decisions.

Leadership

Leadership skills include the abilities and strengths that help in influencing, guiding and encouraging a group of people toward achieving a common goal.

Teamwork

Teamwork involves having a collaborative spirit, being open to working with others effectively and playing to other individuals’ strengths.

Technology

Technology has become a part of almost every industry, and it is essential today to adapt to emerging technologies in order to work efficiently and effectively.

Cultural Understanding TU’s Celebrating Cultural Uniqueness (CCU@TU) equips students to effectively and empathetically navigate culturally unique points of view.

Career and Self Development

Successful people are aware of their own strengths and areas for development, and proactively pursue opportunities for growth.

Professionalism

Professional success encompasses not just specialized knowledge and technical skills, but also personal qualities that help you perform at your highest level.

COMMUNICATION. CRITICAL THINKING. LEADERSHIP. TEAMWORK. TECHNOLOGY. CULTURAL UNDERSTANDING. CAREER AND SELF DEVELOPMENT. PROFESSIONALISM.

Everywhere, Engagement

TU business students often work on projects for businesses in the local community. Forensic science students visit a body farm to view an actual autopsy. Creative arts majors record original music in our campus studio, then market and distribute it. Science majors collaborate with professors on original, high-level research projects. And on and on it goes.

Real-World Internships

Nearly every TU student will participate in at least one professional internship before they graduate. It’s an opportunity to put into practice – in a reallife, professional work setting –lessons and theory learned in the classroom. The opportunity to view firsthand your chosen profession, and to engage in substantive work in your field, is an invaluable learning experience and an integral part of a TU education.

Hot on the Trail: Cold Case

As part of the Cold Case Fellowship Program, students work cold cases – real-life criminal investigations that have yet to be solved. Supported by an experienced faculty, students travel to crime locations, examine files, develop leads and make recommendations for further investigation – all while developing critical thinking and teamwork skills in a cold case environment.

Excellence Down to a Science

The Center for Science and Technology –better known around here as the “STEAM” building – is a state-of-the-art science center where students have access to cutting-edge equipment and technology. Here, you’ll engage in hands-on laboratory exercises, using highlevel instrumentation that at other universities is normally reserved for graduate students.

Certified for Success

The opportunity to earn industry certifications is a unique advantage of a TU education. A certified credential from a third party validates a higher level of learning. Adding a professional certification to your college degree will help you to stand out as a more experienced, more prepared job prospect in an increasingly competitive marketplace.

Cyber Defense & Forensics

The Tiffin University Center for Cyber Defense & Forensics is designated as a DHS and NSA Center of Academic Excellence. The Center provides students the unique opportunity to perform security and vulnerability assessments for businesses; run data recovery plans; participate in hack-a-thons; conduct impactful research and complete internships with the FBI, NSA, Fortune 500 companies and more.

TiffinArts

Whatever your passion in the arts, you’ll have the opportunity to immerse in it as part of our TiffinArts program. TU provides an innovative and highly experiential education that, from day one, engages singers, instrumentalists, producers, actors, dancers, artists, writers and media creatives. Other institutions talk about experiential learning; our artists live it at TU, preparing them in every way to become confident working professionals in the arts.

Professional Research

TU students have many opportunities to engage in research. As any professional researcher, you’ll apply the scientific method: Identify a problem, conduct research and form a hypothesis. You’ll test the hypothesis through observation, experimentation and analysis. You’ll draw a conclusion and present your findings, quite possibly at a professional conference. You’ll develop valuable skills. You’ll build an impressive resume.

A Winning Program

Sports management students at TU learn by doing, as they have access to unmatched hands-on learning opportunities. Shown here are students who have interned with the Paris Olympics, Cincinnati Reds, NCAA Women’s Final Four, Above the Rest Basketball and Mohawk Golf & Country Club. Our students experience firsthand the reallife logistics, management and execution involved in the world of sport.

A Global Education

TU is committed to helping students attain a wider view of the world. It’s evidenced in our partnership with American Institute of Applied Sciences in Switzerland (AUS), allowing AUS students to obtain a dual degree at the undergraduate and graduate level from both institutions. It’s seen in our status as the only university in Romania offering an internationally accredited program in Bachelor of Business Administration. It’s a global focus that distinguishes our institution, and every TU student.

THE INNOVATIVE PAL

TU’s Performing Arts Lab (The PAL) features a professional recording studio; keyboard and production lab; and large rehearsal spaces for TU bands, choirs, dance teams and commercial ensembles. The 14,000-square-foot, professionalquality laboratory serves TU students involved in our more than 20 extracurricular music ensembles and our cutting-edge commercial music degrees.

D.C. Bound

TU students can spend a summer or semester interning in our nation’s capital as part of The Washington Center experience. Students benefit from a substantive, professional experience, while immersing in the dynamic Washington D.C. culture. Students have interned at The White House, the U.S. State Department, Homeland Security, Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts and more.

Pioneering AI

The Artificial Intelligence and Data Science Center at TU is where innovation meets education. Our center is dedicated to advancing the fields of AI and data science, by fostering a deep understanding of the principles, methodologies and technologies unique to these cutting-edge fields. AI and data science students can pursue a range of professional certificates designed to enhance their skills and boost their career prospects.

A Classroom-Centered Education

TU Education students learn in the best way possible, by being in the classroom. Beginning their first semester, they are observing actual classrooms. Then, they will work in classrooms nearly every semester until they wrap up with a 75-day experience where they run a classroom themselves on a day-to-day basis.

Crime Scene House

Criminal Justice students acquire career-ready skills in our Criminal Justice Experiential Learning Center (ELC), also known as our Crime Scene House. With staged crime scenes – complete with dummy victims and perhaps fake guns, drugs, blood splatters – students acquire hands-on experience in crime scene investigations, interviews and interrogations, evidence processing, report writing and more. Students leave TU having already practiced many of the skills they’ll learn in the police academy and on the job.
