CHURCH OF YLIVIESKA Diploma work Year 2017

For my diploma, I participated in the Ylivieska church competition. The competition program was to design a new church building in Ylivieska and develop the surrounding area at the same time. I continued working with my proposal after the competition ended.

The church is a compact zinc-plated wooden building. The pitched roof and the latern rises above the surrounding buildings to create a valuable landmark in the area.

SPACES FOR ART Autumn 2013

The aim of the task for this contemporary architecture course was to create an exhibition building including five exhibition areas, a cafeteria and an auditorium. The project is located near existing art gallery, close to the city center of Oulu.

Implementation is streamlined, one piece-like shape. In the middle of the building there is a covered art work yard, which around visitors will walk during exhibition.

Facade is made of perforated steel which let light pass through it at some points. There are larger glass openings from where light enters to exhibition areas. I tried to create a variety of exhibition spaces for different kind of arts.

Cafeteria is situated in a sunny location where you can see the creek and people passing by.

Student competition, shared 4. price Pair work with Katri Kosola

Spring 2015

The aim of the task for this student competition was to create new ideas for old Tuira hospital area from Oulu. Currently, the area is a bit dark forest close to the city center of Oulu.

Competition entry included ideas about warm, vivid and coherent area. Existing buildings are included to block structure. We wanted to open the dense forest for everyone designing some new, clear paths to the core of the area. In the middle of the area is situated diverse activities, for example pop up space, restaurant, hairdresser and club room.

PUBLIC BUILDING Autumn 2014

For the Public building course in BME, Budapest, the task was first to analyze the given area and then create something there will be neened.

My project was music bar-restaurant. Area was near Sziket island which is famous about Sziket festivals every summer. I wanted to give life to the empty areas around the bridge and bring people near Danube river.

SMALL BUILDING REPAIR Spring 2014 This imaginative project was to create new rooms, space and useful solutions in terms of structures to the traditional rintamamiestalo. This project was done with Sara Kankaanpää.

Our idea was to maintain old structures as much as possible and use natural materials, like wood fiber wool.

Facade stayed quite untouched, but interior changed more, in particular on the 1st floor and in the basement.

HOUSE FOR SIX ARTISTS Spring 2013

For contemporary architecture course we designed house for six artists including small public cafeteria and exhibition areas.

My plan was a long mass, which reaches out over the sea. All the existing buildings around the area are white, so I decided to continue this idea too.

Atmosphere is sea-like and views around and inside of the building are fascinating.

Urban planning and design course task was to create layout-level land and planning taking into account existing urban structure and the surroundings.

The main theme of my region was park area in the hearh of the whole area, which weaves through the area from an urban milieu ending to the general park zone.

RESIDENTIAL PLANNING Spring 2014

The objective for my Bachelor’s degree was to plan a residential building that would reside in the same area that we planned in the Urban Planning course.

The main idea was to create wooden facade residential building, where balconies were embedded to the facade. The shape of the building is upwarding, which creates one and half floor high flats to the top floor. Material of the facade is from the courtyard side warm wood and from the street side grizzled wood. There is a big balcony zone in the end of the building from where you can see the evening sun.

For conctruction building course we made all the structures and some details about residential building.

Pictures are from concrete building in which hollow-core slabs are used for most of the floors.

Street facade looks very simple for purpose.
