(Japanese) Noun: The art of mending broken ceramics using gold making it more beautiful.

The poetry of space making is explored through structural intervention. The larger space is broken down in a way that the smallest of detail contributes to the whole experience. Pragmatically, the culture of japan is brought alive through the play in volumes, light quality and modularity of the shared space.

The keywords Development, Genereation and energy are highlighted by the use of robust and industrial materials like concrete, glass and MS. The colours are nuetral and muted. The keywords like unity, community and symbol are highlighted using soft, warm and intricate materials like wood, brick, perforated ms sheet.

Flooring Plan

Micro-cement topping provides a seamless finish and muted colour pallete. It is suitable for high traffic areas. Two different shades are used to denote the areas. In the washroom, white ceramic tiles are used. The seating has microcement topping as well, which makes it wear and tear resistant and merge with the environment.

The partition of the souvenir shop is the highlight of the space. Made using powder coated MS pipes, the partition not only divides the space but integrates the display system withingn it, at the same time forming an enclosure

Seating area

Taking inspiration from traditional bleachers for public stadiums, the intent was to create a futuristic cave-like seating. The 3 layers are kept in line with the head sspace requiremnt, and forms an area for people to gather and interact. The users get a direct view of activities happening inside, the pop up exhibitions and the souvenir shop.

The receptionist’s area, Help Desk

The Receptionist’s Table acts like a sculptural element. It starts as seating to accomodate 8-10 individuals waiting for their turn, then rises further to become the surface of the table and goes up to the coloumn and merges into it. This highlights the coloumn and adds to the seamlessness of the whole environment. The whole table forms an enclosure and solves multiple functional needs.

The Ceiling points are arranged in an effecient manner in th e double height, connecting 3-4 down lights to a single switch. Where as on the mezzanine, there are numerous ceiling points with individual light connections to have creater control over light modulation. The switch boards are a variety of furniture mounted and wall mounted ones to maximize convenient usage.

Plumbing

The HVAC system deploys circular and general spaces. To cool the double height, Flexible ducted ing, throwing air directly onto high crowd areas.

casette ACs for the private and enclosed ducted systems run through the false ceilareas. They are connected to the VRF unit.

Reflected ceiling Plan

The False ceiling is seamless in the double height with organic cut-outs for the indirect cove light, executed through gypsum boards. The baffle ceiling is used to add certain directionality in the vestibule and conference room. Circular Profile lights add elegance to lounging areas and task lights make the spaces functional. The Trap doors are in the vestibule to ensure smooth servicing whenever required.

04. Casa de Comida

Concept

Balcao

(Portuguese) Noun: A house of food, A place to celebrate local artisanal cuisine

“Casa de Comida” is an adaptive reuse project in Fontainhas, Panaji. A cluster of four-150 year old Goan townhouses are to be converted into hospitality food and beverage spaces, manifested in the form of a food court. The food court promotes local artisanal cuisines of India, giving a space for street food vendors and hawkers to serve in an elevated setting. The design and detail takes direct inspiration from the quaint streets of Fontainhas. It’s a curation of the character of the streets and houses to the architectural elements of the built forms.

The food court comprises several spaces, including “Rua Comida,” which features sweet and savory Indian fusion foods from three stalls and a Grehaldo (a grill & barbecue space).

The space has a comfortable and homely feel that encourages new conversations. “Rua Cerveja” is a casual beer bar that spills into the outdoors through an open garden, radiating a warm and cozy vibe.

“Telhado Barre” is a rooftop bar with an overlook onto the “street,” which allows the people to interact with the activity below.
