“Art, Culture and Conversation” was the theme of the Citywide Juneteenth Fine Arts Gala on June 8 at Langston University – Tulsa. Local artists displayed and discussed their work, and pianist Barron Ryan performed. Isaac Causey and Tatyana Nduta gave a lecture on the “Impact of Art on Mental Health.” The gala’s Parisian decor represented the historical plight of African-American artists, such as painter Henry O. Tanner, who left the U.S. to find international acclaim practicing their crafts in Paris. Gala proceeds made possible a Color Me True workshop for aspiring student artists earlier that day on campus. Parents and art teachers also attended the workshop.
