TPAC update

I always love the start of a new season. The buildup, the planning, the execution and the excitement are thrilling to be a part of. The 25–26 season here at TPAC will be a testament to the world-class entertainment that graces our stages each year. Starting in August with a TPAC Produces production of “Ragtime” to the national tour kickoff of “The Outsiders” in October and incredible shows and concerts presented by our amazing community partners throughout the year, TPAC will once again be buzzing with energy and entertainment as we host 500 plus event days and welcome close to 300,000 people through our doors.

In addition to the great shows, we will also be launching our fundraising campaign so that we can begin to see our 10-year facility masterplan take flight and transform our facility into a performing arts complex that will rival any others in the country. I believe that we are in a position to bring a truly transformative project to Tulsa that will benefit northeastern Oklahoma and local performing arts groups for decades to come.

I am grateful for the overwhelming support we have received from our board of directors, city leaders and from our patrons, who understand how vital this is to our community. It’s also hard to believe that during the 26–27 season we will be celebrating TPAC’s 50th anniversary. I promise we have some exciting events planned for that milestone!

As always, thank you for supporting the arts in Green Country, and I hope you enjoy the show.

SEASON SOIRÉE TPAC

September 16, 6–8 p.m.

Curtains Up on Community:

12 Programs Changing Tulsa Through the Arts

Did you know the Tulsa Performing Arts Center has 12 incredible community engagement programs? From early childhood to senior citizens, we’ve got a little something for everyone. Why? The arts are fundamental: they bring us together, they enhance childhood development and they heal wounds, and we want to ensure everyone has access to this essential building block of our community.

Want to know how you, your friends and your family can get involved? Look no further; we’ve got all the info you need right here!

Any Given Child

Tulsa is one of a handful of cities across the nation now participating in the Kennedy Center’s Any Given Child program. In partnership with Tulsa Public Schools and additional partner arts organizations in Tulsa, we ensure Tulsa students have at least nine live arts experiences by the time they reach high school.

For our part in the program, we offer all TPS kindergarten and seventh grade students a free live theatre performance experience. Each performance is geared toward that specific grade’s syllabus and completely produced by TPAC.

Kindergarteners get to see “Aesop’s Greatest Hits,” a romp through Aesop’s most beloved tales. Color, creativity, joy and laughs come together for this amazing show, with a few lessons learned along the way.

Seventh graders enjoy “Channeling Our Ancestors,” an educational and entertaining piece of art created, written and performed by local Native Americans, which focuses on the themes of Native identity, appropriation, and the connection of generations, bringing heritage and traditions forward into modern life.

Broadway Senior

Broadway Senior is a unique initiative designed to connect seniors in our community with the transformative power of Broadway and live theater. Whether they’re a lifelong theatre lover or new to the stage, this program offers a welcoming and enriching experience for individuals aged 60 and older. This year, we will be producing the beloved classic “Singin’ In the Rain!” Led by Kimberly Wall, our participants get the full musical theatre experience, from props to costume pieces. Rehearsals start in August and continue until the performances take place in April and May.

Whether you want to take part or watch, this is a program that is not to be missed!

Brown Bag It

The Brown Bag It free noontime concert series takes place on select Wednesdays of the month in our Westby Pavilion and features some of Oklahoma’s finest professional musicians.

This year’s Brown Bag It concert series offers a vibrant lineup, celebrating musical talent across genres. The season opens October 1 with Kyle Dillingham, a highenergy violin and fiddle virtuoso. On

December 10, get into the holiday spirit with performances by the Festival Bell Ringers and Tulsa Carolers. The series continues March 4 with the elegant artistry of classical pianist Milton Fernandez Peña, and concludes May 6 with the soulful alt/pop cabaret stylings of singer-songwriter Casii Stephan.

Check out our website for more info, grab your lunch and join us for some fantastic, free concerts throughout the year!

Costume Collection

Crista Patrick spent 15 years as a professor and costume closet manager for the University of Tulsa. In that time, she amassed an amazing collection of over 50,000 costume pieces that have given life to the stage. When the theatre program ended in 2022, Patrick chose to gift her entire collection to the TPAC in hopes that her work would live on. Thanks to help from the City of Tulsa, her collection has a new home and is doing just that.

The TPAC’s resident community partners — including Theatre Tulsa, American Theatre Company, World Stage Theatre Company, Theatre North and others — can now borrow costume pieces for free, paying only to clean and repair what they choose to use. Costuming can be a prohibitive cost to local theatre companies, and our hope is that this will make presenting local art just a little bit easier for the entire community.

Once the entire collection has been catalogued and organized, it is our goal to open the programs up to other local entities besides the ones using our building.

Create Tulsa

Create Tulsa is dedicated to fostering the growth and success of Tulsa’s diverse artistic community. By hosting quarterly events in collaboration with local organizations and venues, Create Tulsa offers educational resources, artist panel discussions, exhibitions, and creative networking opportunities.

These initiatives empower artists of all media to enhance their skills, build connections, and sustain their creative practices while contributing to the city’s cultural and economic vitality.

Want to be part of this incredible program and community? Visit the Create Tulsa page on our website to see upcoming events and workshops, sign up for our Create Tulsa mailing list and more!

Discovery Awards

Presented in partnership with Celebrity Attractions, the Discovery Awards highlight and award excellence in high school musical theatre. Professional arts adjudicators attend participating high school musicals and nominate the best performers from each production. In the spring, all nominees attend a week-long masterclass workshop led by awardwinning creatives, ending in a showcase competition on stage at the Tulsa PAC.

The overall best female and male performers win an all-expense paid trip to represent Eastern Oklahoma in New York City. Once there, they participate in another week-long masterclass workshop led by award-winning creatives and ultimately compete nationally, on a Broadway stage, in front of Broadway producers and directors at the Jimmy® Awards, otherwise known as The National High School Musical Theatre Awards® in the summer. Winners receive a cash scholarship.

Are you an Oklahoma theatre or music teacher? You can enter your school to participate for free! We also need volunteers to help us adjudicate the musicals of the participating schools. You can also see The Discovery Awards live on stage this coming spring! Visit www.thediscoveryawards.com to learn more!

Imagination Series

Art is FUN! But it can also be an incredible teaching tool. The Imagination Series is a familyfriendly series that mixes traditional storytelling stage shows with learning opportunities. Professional troupes bring their fun, interactive shows to the John H. Williams stage to provide laughter, learning and more. We’ve had everything from pirates to hip hop, and each show even has its own study guide to learn more before and after the show!

This year, we are offering evening performances of both of our Any Given Child productions, “Channeling Our Ancestors” and “Aesop’s Greatest Hits,” to allow families to see these fun, inventive shows. Plus, “Sugar Skull! A Día de Muertos Musical Adventure” arrives in October, and the live retelling of the “Wind in the Willows” will be here in January. Visit our site for tickets and details.

Next Narrative Monologue Competition

The Next Narrative Monologue Competition (NNMC) is a national program that gives high school students the chance to perform original monologues written by today’s top Black playwrights.

Students get to compete to earn a free trip to New York City where they’ll take part in acting workshops, see a Broadway show, and perform on stage at the legendary Apollo Theater in Harlem to compete nationally. National winners also receive cash scholarships.

NNMC is all about lifting up Black voices in theatre, building acting skills, and encouraging the exploration of powerful topics like identity, justice, and culture — through each student’s own unique voice. It’s their chance to be heard, be bold, and be part of something big. This program is free for any school or student to enter, and if you want to see some of the most powerful performances around, join us for the regional competition! Be sure to check our website for updates.

Orbit Arts Festival

The Tulsa area is absolutely overflowing with incredible talent! From acting to dancing, singing, instrumentalists and more, our community has so much to offer. To celebrate that fact, and to make sure as many local artists get to share their art as possible, we host the Orbit Arts Festival each year!

From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. that day, the doors to our 2nd Street lobbies and theatres are open wide to allow the public to attend this FREE event. Every space in that half of our theatre is brimming with activities, workshops, entertainers and more.

You do not want to miss this magical day! Information for our 2026 celebration will be on our website soon!

PRISM

PRISM is a free program that offers LGBTQIA+ and allied youth (ages 13–17, or 18 if in high school) a safe, inclusive space to express themselves, build community, and explore their creativity through the arts.

Featuring monthly meetups, virtual access, seminars and capstone performances, this program seeks to instill members with a stronger sense of self and belonging, a deeper understanding of queer identity and drive confidence, connection and creativity.

Find more info on this program and who can join on our website!

Theatre Development Fund

The Theatre Development Fund provides support and funding for Tulsa’s local theatre companies producing new and challenging plays and theatre, both inside and outside of our building. In partnership with the George Kaiser Family Foundation, the TPAC provides resources, mentorship and grants to help nourish and expand Tulsa’s thriving performing arts community.

This year’s recipients include American Theatre Company, Clark Youth Theatre, Heller Theatre Company, Pembroke Players, Theatre North, Theatre Tulsa and World Stage Theatre Company.

Want to produce a local play and need some help? Visit our website to learn how to apply!

TPAC Venue Subsidy

Northeast Oklahoma is lucky to have an incredible number of talented artists and organizations that support them. In order to ensure as many of those organizations can support art as possible, we’ve created a membership program to help cover the cost of renting the venues in our building. The grants we provide to our presenter partnerships help guarantee more art for our community.

This year, our resident companies include American Theatre Company, Theatre Tulsa, Tulsa Ballet, Tulsa Opera and Tulsa Symphony Orchestra. Our partner companies include Chamber Music Tulsa, Pembroke Players, Theatre North, Tulsa Town Hall and World Stage Theatre Company.

Visit our website to learn all about how to become a resident partner and what you can get from doing so!
