Volunteering at the Thames Hospice shop in Camberley

Although our shop has been in Camberley High Street for over two years several lockdowns and a new High Street build have caused a fair amount of disruption.

Please do come and find us it is a lovely shop and it is often referred to as a boutique! We are raising money for Thames Hospice We provide expert medical, nursing and therapeutic care to adults who have life limiting illnesses for people in East Berkshire and south Buckinghamshire.

It costs more than £12 million every year to keep our hospice running. We rely on our community for over 50% of the funds we have to raise annually to provide our services free of charge, 365 days a year, to the people who need us. We have a 28 bed in patient unit and a purpose built Day Therapy centre in Maidenhead. We have a café on site so please, if you are in the area, come and visit us.

With so many tasks to do in our Camberley shop, we are able to welcome up to five volunteers at a time so why not come and volunteer with us it’s a sociable place to be! If you have some spare time please get in touch and come along for a taster session.

Thank you for supporting us and we look forward to seeing you in our shop soon!

Louise Jones, Head of Volunteering, Thames Hospice Louise.Jones@thameshospice.org.uk

Help When Your Water Bills Are High

The surge in energy costs has been consistently in the news –and we’re continuing to offer support and help to those that need it.

However, while energy bills take up a high proportion of monthly income, there is another essential utility cost that householders may struggle to pay. Water. While you cannot switch between water companies to find a better deal, there is help for those finding it difficult to pay their water bills. Water companies realise that this is a difficult time and people can fall into water debt.

In you are in this situation, your first point of call is your water company. Get in touch with them and see how they can best support you. Here are some of the things that might be available to you:

Social Tariff Schemes

All water companies offer a social tariff scheme which help to reduce bills if you are on a low income. Eligibility varies between the water companies, so ask your provider.

Flexible Payment Plans

Your water company might be able to offer a flexible payment plan or ‘payment break’ if you need to reduce or stop your payments for a limited time. This can help in the short term.

Financial Hardship Funds

Your water company may have a fund that can help clear your water debt. Get in touch with them and see if they have such funds.

Debt Support Schemes

Most water companies offer these schemes. These require you to agree to a payment plan set by your water company but can reduce debt if you stick to it.

WaterSure

This scheme caps the water bill of those customers who are receiving income related benefits who have a water meter and, either a large family or a member of the household with a medical condition that uses a lot of water. Switching to a Water Meter Switching to a water meter means that you are charged based on your actual water usage rather than on the rateable value of your home.

Water meters though are not an automatic money saver. You can check out how it would impact your bills via this online water meter calculator (https:// www.ccwater.org.uk/watermetercalculator). family, housing, health and legal matters.

We know that household budgets are stretched more than ever – and, locally, we are working with more people than ever. If you have problems paying your water bill, our website is a good starting point (https:// www.citizensadvice.org.uk/consumer/water/water-supply/problems-withpaying-your-water-bill).

Need advice?

You can phone our general Adviceline on 0800 144 8848 (Mon-Fri 10-5). If you’re in Surrey Heath, you can call 01276 417900 and leave a message for a call back, or email client@camberley.cabnet.org.uk. Alternatively, you can find information at citizensadvice.org.uk regarding your local office, where you can also get advice by webchat and email.
