Year in Review As I reflect on the past financial year, I’m filled with a genuine sense of pride in what our team has accomplished. FY25 has been a standout year for TTW, marked by exceptional achievements despite the challenges posed by global uncertainty and a shifting economic landscape. What makes this year truly memorable isn’t just the incredible projects we’ve delivered, it’s the people behind them. Our team’s dedication, creativity, and collaboration have been the driving force behind our success. The culture we’ve built together continues to thrive, and it’s this shared spirit that sets TTW apart.

Looking back, there are some iconic projects that have come to life this year. The Australian War Memorial, the IKN Mosque, the West Gate Tunnel Project, and Western Sydney Airport are just a few examples of the scale and significance of the work we’ve been part of. And honestly, there are too many more to list – each one a testament to the trust our clients place in us and the expertise we bring to the table. But what I’m most proud of isn’t just the projects; it’s our people.

Innovation is only valuable when it delivers real outcomes and our people know how to make that happen. Our Digital Engineering team combines deep technical expertise with a sharp focus on client priorities, using advanced tools to optimise design, reduce costs, and improve efficiency.

A standout example is the spectacular glulam timber roof soaring above the new Sydney Fish Market. Made up of 594 individual glulam beams and more than 1600 cubic metres of timber, the complexity of turning vision into reality demanded seamless collaboration.

From the earliest stages, our Construction Engineering team worked closely with our client, Multiplex, the project consultants, and their extensive network of subcontractors.

Through this collaborative effort, they overcame complex stability challenges and delivered a coordinated design that seamlessly blends engineering precision with architectural ambition.

On a wind farm project, their modelling and refinement of civil works led to a 21 per cent reduction in earthworks and significant time savings. This wasn’t just a technical achievement; it was a strategic advantage. The clarity and confidence provided by our approach helped the client secure board approval, demonstrating how technical excellence can directly influence business decisions.

This is the kind of impact our people deliver. By combining engineering technical excellence with commercial insight, we help clients move forward faster, smarter, and with confidence.

Spotlight On: Energy Renewables TTW’s entry into the wind energy sector is driven by the growing need for advanced digital and civil design early in project development.

Traditionally, detailed civil design and modelling are delayed until the later stages due to budget constraints, by which point planning controls have already locked in critical site decisions. This limits opportunities to optimise design for constructability, cost-efficiency, and environmental impact.

Our approach challenges that norm.

By introducing digital workflows and computational design tools from the outset, we’re able to rapidly generate 3D civil models and continuously refine them as the project evolves.

This iterative process improves the quality and speed of decision-making, supporting early feasibility assessments and helping projects move more confidently towards financial close.

This capability is now a core part of our engineering offering in the renewables space, delivering value from early concept through to detailed design and documentation.

Engineering Architectural Vision: Western International Sydney Airport, NSW Covering 42,000 sqm, the suspended aluminium roof references the Great Australian Bushland, with curved battens creating a wave-like rhythm that guides passengers through the terminal.

Our Façade team solved the ceiling’s complex threedimensional geometry, suspended on wires and central spines. The roof also required resilience against blast and earthquake loads, the management of thermal expansion across 60-metre roof sheets, and strict performance in acoustic, thermal and waterproofing conditions.

Through digital modelling and innovative engineering, TTW delivered a constructible solution that preserved the architectural intent.

A façade is where engineering meets art. It’s not just the public face of the building but also the first layer of comfort for the people inside.

Traffic Engineering Smoother journeys, stronger outcomes Safe, efficient movement is vital to the wellbeing of communities. Our Traffic Engineers are passionate about creating transport solutions that serve people; reducing disruption, improving connectivity, and supporting sustainable travel.

From the earliest stages of planning, we work closely with clients and stakeholders to explore options and develop detailed traffic management plans. Whether it’s a complex urban site or a regional corridor, our focus is on minimising risk and delays during construction and throughout the life of the project.

Combining practical experience with the latest technologies and transport strategies, our team encourages active travel modes and delivers better outcomes for everyone who uses the space. Every solution is tailored, and every challenge is met with care and precision.

Engineering Movement With Purpose: Melonba Education Campus, NSW The Melonba Education Campus saw the transformation of a 6-hectare greenfield site into an integrated education hub. Our Traffic team worked to resolve the limited transport options.

Working closely with the local Council and Transport for NSW, we ensured appropriate bus services to the area, new footpaths for safe pedestrian movement, eight zebra crossings, storage for up to 200 bicycles, improved bus stop facilities, and dedicated accessible drop-off areas.

The Bond

Engineering Flow During Construction: Manningham Road Interchange, VIC Part of Victoria’s largest road project, the Manningham Road Interchange forms a key link in the North East Link Central Package. TTW led the design for the staged road diversions during construction, coordinating geotechnical, traffic, civil, electrical, and lighting disciplines to keep the project moving safely and efficiently. Close collaboration with multiple authorities and stakeholders helped ensure minimal disruption for the community, with new diversions already open to traffic since April 2024.

Complex Geometry in Action: West Gate Tunnel Portal, VIC The tunnel portals on the West Gate Tunnel Project brought together cultural expression and technical complexity.

Inspired by Melbourne’s Aboriginal and maritime heritage, the sculptural timber and aluminium forms presented significant geometric challenges.

TTW was engaged to optimise the complex geometrical designs, bridging the gap between aesthetics and constructability. Using digital modelling and input from both our Structural and Digital teams, the geometry was simplified to make the cladding and its fabrication more manageable. This approach supported a lightweight, sustainable outcome without compromising the architectural vision.

Applied Science Turning complexity into clarity Across the built environment, our clients face increasingly complex challenges, and we’re here to help navigate them.

By applying advanced simulation, computational design and deep engineering insight, our Applied Science team works closely with project teams to uncover practical, innovative solutions that enhance performance, reduce risk and improve cost efficiency. Every project is different, so we tailor our analysis strategies to suit, ensuring outcomes that meet all relevant standards and deliver lasting value.

Physical Security Engineering Protecting people, places and assets through specialised structural design.

Our Physical Security team brings over two decades of experience delivering Structural Engineering solutions for security-sensitive projects across Australia and internationally. As an approved provider on the DFAT Security Advisory Panel and the Structural Engineering Panel for Operating Procedures Outline, we apply advanced simulation and analysis tools to deliver credible, timely responses in high-risk environments.

Specialist Underground Asset Assessments As Sydney’s urban density increases, more developments are being built near critical underground infrastructure.

These projects face stringent structural assessment requirements to ensure assets are protected during construction and throughout the building’s operational life.

The process is highly technical, multi-staged, and subject to strict regulatory review, making early and accurate submissions essential.

TTW’s Applied Science team provided specialist services for a range of projects in these complex environments. We prepared structural impact assessments, technical reports, and drawing packages in line with the rigorous processes set by infrastructure asset owners. Our approach combines technical precision with a deep understanding of approval pathways, allowing us to identify potential risks early, address them proactively, and deliver well-researched, cohesive submissions. This has enabled clients to navigate complex requirements more efficiently, protect project timelines, and ensure that critical underground assets remain uncompromised.

Building Smarter for the Next Generation: Griffith University Student Accommodation, QLD TTW supported Griffith University’s sustainability ambitions for its new student accommodation tower, targeting a 5 Star Green Star Buildings certification.

Working with the ESD consultant, our team integrated early embodied carbon analysis into the structural design, achieving a 20% reduction in upfront carbon.

Practical guidance on low-carbon materials and structural optimisation helped deliver a resilient, efficient building that supports a more sustainable campus for future students.

The project included a new southern entrance, refurbishment of the main building, a new Anzac Hall which is connected to the main building via a glazed link, and an extension to the Bean Building to integrate research collections and services.

More than an engineering challenge, this project was about protecting a national legacy. Preserving the Memorial’s historic integrity while enhancing functionality and accessibility for visitors.

IKN Mosque Client: PT Alien Desain Nusantara Region: Indonesia Sector: Community Disciplines: Structural + Civil + Construction The redevelopment of the Jakarta National Mosque - a twisted dome and circular landmark of spiritual and architectural significance - called for specialised engineering expertise. The project involved complex Structural Engineering design rarely used in Indonesia, including a fully posttensioned flat slab system. In close collaboration with the design team to ensure cultural sensitivity, seismic compliance, and buildability throughout the process, a space that will serve the community for decades to come has been created in partnership with our client.

New Sydney Fish Markets Client: Multiplex (funded by NSW Government) Region: Sydney Sector: Commercial Discipline: Construction TTW’s Construction Engineering team played a key role in the redevelopment of the iconic new Sydney Fish Market, particularly in supporting the installation of the impressive glulam timber roof which stands as the defining feature of the development. Our involvement included detailed temporary works design, construction sequencing, and stability assessments to manage the challenges of assembling over 1,600 cubic metres of timber beams. This collaboration, supported by Digital Engineering, enabled rapid adjustments during construction to ensure safe and efficient delivery. The result is a landmark structure that celebrates sustainable design and reconnects Sydney with its working waterfront, creating a vibrant public space for the community.

Queensway Node Client: Urban Redevelopment Authority Region: Singapore Sector: Community Disciplines: Structural + Civil Designed as a vibrant and immersive public node in the form of a kaleidoscopic tunnel along the Rail Corridor, the project blends heritage storytelling with community-focused design. Our Singapore-based team worked alongside a multidisciplinary group to develop a robust Civil and Structural Engineering approach that supported the vision for flexibility, sustainability, and community connection in this high-profile public space. Iglu Russell Street Client: Iglu Pty Limited Region: Melbourne Sector: Accommodation Disciplines: Structural + Civil + Construction A multi-award winning project, we delivered multi-disciplinary services for this 28-storey student accommodation project in Melbourne’s CBD. We overcame complex site constraints (including supporting adjacent heritage buildings during construction) and developed a costeffective structural design that maximised usable space during a conceptual design phase. A focus on design for manufacture and assembly ensured efficient delivery on a tight, highly constrained site. Creating a safe, functional, and uplifting environment for students to live, learn, and connect in the heart of the city.

Michael Kirby Building, Macquarie University Client: Macquarie University Region: Sydney Sector: Education Disciplines: Timber + Structural + Civil + Façade + Construction The new Michael Kirby Building at Macquarie University brings together the University’s law faculty under one roof in a striking, sustainable new learning environment. The building integrates flexible learning spaces, lightfilled interiors, and collaborative zones.

Of particular note was the use of stateof-the-art mass timber engineering and construction with adaptive reuse, which was pivotal to the project’s success. This project highlights our capability in sustainable timber design and adaptive reuse, delivering a learning environment that enhances collaboration and connection across the university community.

88 Walker Street Client: Billbergia Region: Sydney Sector: Commercial Disciplines: Structural + Civil TTW provided Structural and Civil Engineering services for 88 Walker Street - North Sydney’s tallest mixed-use tower. This vertically stacked building posed unique engineering challenges, including constructing a hotel, residential apartments, and commercial tenancies within a narrow footprint and tight urban environment. Through innovative design solutions to maximise floor space, enhance constructability, and manage loading across multiple uses and elevations. Our engineering expertise helps shape efficient, highdensity projects that add functionality to growing city centres.

Caulfield Grammar School Senior School Teaching and Learning Building Client: Caulfield Grammar School Region: Melbourne Sector: Education Disciplines: Structural + Civil This 5-storey structure with a partial basement comprising 12,000sqm GFA incorporates classroom spaces, laboratories, auditorium, open atrium and incubator spaces. Our team was engaged on the new connected, accessible building to ensure it tied seamlessly with the existing campus. Our work included developing long-span structural solutions for the central atrium, integrating civil and landscape design to align with the broader masterplan and existing facilities, and reconciling significant site gradients to ensure full DDA compliance.

Through a strong partnership with the school, TTW delivered a design that unites function and accessibility, strengthening campus connection and supporting and inclusive, collaborative learning environment.

This major redevelopment includes a new Critical Services Building that delivers enhanced acute care capacity and clinical capability. Working closely with partners, we helped bring together highly complex services, hospital infrastructure, and buildability solutions to create a facility that meets the highest standards of modern healthcare. The expansion delivers a modern facility that supports high-quality care and creates a better experience for patients, clinicians, and the wider community.

Freecity Co-Living Client: Freecity Group Region: Sydney Sector: Accommodation Discipline: Structural + Civil Designed to expand housing options for Macquarie University students, this new 20-storey accommodation tower will provide more than 500 highquality rooms and generous shared amenities. Using a volumetric modular construction method, it will become Australia’s tallest modular building once completed. The approach improves material efficiency, reduces waste, and enables faster delivery of much-needed student housing. TTW’s Structural, Civil, Façade, and Construction Engineering teams are delivering a sustainable, well-connected place for students to live, learn and belong.

Sydney Metro: Gadigal Station Client: CPB + Oxford Properties Region: Sydney Sector: Transport Disciplines: Structural + Construction This new metro station and Sydney’s first large-scale, build-to-rent tower helping shape Sydney’s future was part of Australia’s largest public transport infrastructure project, Sydney Metro. Our involvement on Gadigal Station included optimisation of the reference scheme, on-time delivery of design to a very short program, optioneering with CPB team to find economical and practical solutions as well as collaboration with three architects, multiple services consultants and two clients.

Championing Emerging Engineers Developing future engineers is part of how we grow, as a business and as an industry. Our graduate and student programs are designed to provide real project experience, hands-on learning, and the guidance of engineers who enjoy sharing their knowledge.

These programs create space for emerging engineers to grow their skills, contribute to projects, and build successful careers in the industry.

Emerging Engineers Program Future engineers are growing at TTW. Our Emerging Engineers Program (EEP) gives graduates a clear, staged pathway from day one to Chartership readiness, blending real project work with structured learning across Onboarding, EEP1 Building Foundations, EEP2 Applied Knowledge, and EEP3 Readiness for Chartership. Progress is purposeful, with core and extension goals tracked in our TTW Hub so engineers know exactly what “good” looks like. We build professional habits early through a Competency Framework, Progress Log, and a Professional Development Journal that supports Chartership applications. By investing in the next generation, we’re not only creating confident, client-ready engineers but also strengthening the future of our profession.

Khanh Uong Graduate Structural Engineer | Sydney Khanh joined TTW after completing her Civil Engineering degree at the University of Technology Sydney. She was drawn to TTW’s broad range of disciplines and supportive culture that encourages graduates to explore different aspects of the industry.

From her first day, Khanh has had opportunities to contribute to a wide variety of projects and learn directly from both engineers and the drafting team. A standout moment for her was contributing to challenging data center projects, where she learned about lateral stability, precast PT and steel design.

Khanh says the collaborative environment and strong mentoring at TTW have given her the confidence to ask questions, keep growing and see her designs come to life.

“The culture at TTW is very supportive and friendly. Everyone is approachable and is willing to help - it’s a very collaborative environment.”

Victor Zhang Graduate Structural Engineer | Sydney Victor studied Civil Engineering (Honours) at University of NSW (UNSW), where exposure to multiple disciplines and particularly to Structural Engineering inspired him to launch his career at TTW. After connecting with TTW at the UNSW Careers Fair, Victor was impressed by our reputation for technical excellence, focus on sustainability and genuine investment in growing engineers. He’s since embraced every challenge - from site visits to producing design packages and learning new software - describing each week as a rewarding step forward.

With consistent mentoring, monthly seminars and an open, supportive team, Victor says TTW is exactly the place he hoped to start building his future. His advice to other engineers at the start of their career is to stay curious and ask questions.

“I wanted to begin my career at a place where I could grow fast and learn from some of the best engineers in the industry and TTW was exactly that.”

Simon Funcich Graduate Civil Engineer | Melbourne Having studied a Bachelor of Civil Engineering at Monash University, Simon took the opportunity to kickstart his career at TTW to expose him to multiple sectors and broaden his skills.

Simon says he’s gained a genuine understanding of engineering in practice, from communicating directly with clients and other disciplines to managing projects from concept through to construction. With support from internal training and mentorship from senior engineers, Simon has been able to build his technical knowledge and confidence on the tools.

What he enjoys most is making a tangible difference in people’s lives through accessible, practical design and is driven by the opportunity to see his ideas become a reality.

“Engineering is a career where you learn something new every day. Don’t be afraid to ask questions or take initiative.”

Edwina Wang Graduate Traffic Engineer | Sydney Edwina’s journey with TTW began during her university studies through our Cadet Program, giving her valuable hands-on experience with real projects and a supportive team before stepping into a graduate role.

She describes her time as a grad so far as rewarding, with a balance of structured learning and opportunities for independent responsibility. Edwina has benefited from technical workshops, presentations across departments and informal mentoring, all within a warm, inclusive environment where people genuinely care.

She finds the problem-solving nature of engineering deeply satisfying and sees every new challenge as a chance to grow and learn from experienced colleagues.

“Although I’ve learned a lot in just six months, there’s still so much more to discover and TTW is supportive in helping me gain those experiences.”

Internship Assessment Day Sydney Our internship program supports the next generation of engineers with hands-on experience across Structural, Civil, Façade, and Traffic Engineering.

Over 60 days, interns gain exposure to both design and construction phases. Top performers may be offered part-time roles during their final year of study, with the potential for full-time opportunities after graduation.

Shortlisted candidates attended an Assessment Day at our Sydney office. Through a series of group activities, our assessors (TTW team members) observed how candidates aligned with TTW’s values and assessed their suitability for the internship program.

Daniil Matcko Work Experience Student | Canberra Year 10 student, Daniil Matcko spent a week with the team as part of his school’s work experience program.

During his placement, Daniil gained valuable insight into the day-to-day of civil engineering, confirming his interest in pursuing the field as a future career.

His time with the Canberra team gave him a taste of the collaborative culture and practical experience that sets TTW apart, inspiring the next generation of engineers.

Our graduates are guided by a mentor through their first four years at TTW and are trained in all technical aspects of design as well as how construction sites run.

At the end of the program, they have the skills needed to apply for their Engineers Australia Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) accreditation.

Hands-on heritage training Olivia Britt, a Senior Structural Engineer in our Heritage Engineering team was awarded a place in the 2025 Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings (SPAB) Scholarship training program in the UK. The program is a prestigious, immersive experience for early-career professionals working to preserve historic buildings.

When we checked in with Olivia during her training, she regaled us with stories of being on the roof of Westminster Abbey alongside other SPAB Scholars and Fellows: “I’m having a great time and learning so much. It’s inspiring to meet a diverse group of professionals all working hard to preserve historic buildings using techniques that respect the unique challenges of these structures. I’m excited to bring this knowledge to the historic sites I’m privileged to work on in Sydney.”

Olivia’s passion for mastering her craft is clear, and her journey is one we’re excited to follow as she brings fresh expertise and global insights to her projects with us.

Education partnerships Our partnerships with universities and industry bodies are shaping the future of engineering. We collaborate with leading education providers to bridge the gap between academic learning and real world practice.

These partnerships include UNSW and the University of Sydney in New South Wales, Griffith University in Queensland and Monash, Swinburne, Deakin, and the University of Melbourne in Victoria. This year, our people also represented TTW at key career events such as the UNSW Careers Fair, Griffith University Gold Coast Careers Fair, and the University of Queensland Careers Fair building connections with students who will shape the future of our industry.

These collaborations open doors for mentoring, collaboration, and practical experience that benefit students and strengthen our industry. They are also key to our Industrial Training Program and Graduate Program, which enables practical training with the potential for recruitment upon completion.

As a strong advocate for our industry and for creating opportunities for women in engineering to grow and thrive, we sponsored and hosted the NAWIC NSW Speed Networking event which brought together professionals from across the industry to upskill in how they connect and build meaningful relationships across the industry.

Last July, our Digital Director André Pereira presented at ACSE NSW (Association of Consulting Structural Engineers NSW) on ‘Unified Workflows: Connecting BIM to Design and Analysis’. This session showcased how TTW Hub’s innovative workflows are transforming BIM models into analysis-ready design tools. This innovation helps our engineers make faster, more informed decisions and sets a new benchmark for integrated digital engineering.

Community engagement Our team proudly supports projects that make a meaningful difference, especially where our expertise can help communities overcome unique challenges.

TTW’s Civil team are contributing pro bono engineering advice on a project in Marrickville delivered by Housing All Australians and Good Shepherd. Our support will help advance the work by Housing All Australians who advocate for business led support to solve homelessness and Good Shepherd, Australia’s oldest and longest-running not-forprofit that specifically supports women, girls and families.

The development proposal is at the early stages of concept design and intends to provide affordable and sustainable homes for older women at risk of homelessness. TTW is proud to support initiatives that deliver enduring value to the community.

TTW Structural Engineers provided specialist advice on structural components to support modular construction for the Wilya Janta Housing Project in NT. This guidance addressed the challenges of limited local materials and labour, contributing to sustainable and culturally appropriate housing outcomes for Indigenous communities.
