WHY STUDY ABROAD? •

Being immersed in a new culture will quickly help you discover your strengths and smulate growth. You will get the opportunity to conquer new challenges, think outside the box, plan your own adventures, and solve new problems that arise in the windfall of travelling overseas.

While exploring new cultures you will become a smart and savvy traveler, learning how to budget and navigate your way through different cies. You may even discover new passions or hobbies such as photography or hiking.

Tired of the same old foods? Studying abroad will expose you to a whole new world of food. From the crepes in France, to the goulash in the Czech Republic, to the Tim-Tam Slam in Australia, to the fresh pizza in Italy, each locaon will have its own food identy for you to explore and love.

You will learn worldly skills that a classroom seng simply cannot provide such as understanding cultural difference and beliefs. Students typically return home with an informed and much less biased perspecve toward other cultures.

Upon returning to TTU, you will find that you have developed valuable relaonships and friendships with people across the globe.

American countries are increasingly invesng dollars abroad, and companies around the world connue to invest in the internaonal market, yet only 4% of U.S. undergraduates are exposed to other cultures through study abroad. A student’s experience living and studying in a foreign country, navigang another culture, and possibly acquiring another language can help set you apart from other job applicants.

No maer where you decide to study abroad, through the Rawls College you can take business courses in English that apply directly towards your degree and will help keep you on track for graduaon.

IS IT SAFE?

For many students study abroad opportunies are a once in a lifeme learning and travel experience, but for some parents the thought of the students venturing to another country might be a bit daunng. Student safety is our top priority. Texas Tech University closely monitors global events and news, offering opportunies in only well researched cies. Prior to departure, we inform students of health and safety issues and provide strict guidelines to ensure student safety.

Safety Tips for Students and Parents 1. Learn about the host country. Familiarize yourself with laws, news, emergency protocols and embassy locaons. 2. Take cauon when carrying valuables and money. Be aware of your surroundings and do not carry unnecessary valuables or excessive amounts of cash. 3. Be prepared for medical situaons. Don’t forget to pack any necessary prescripons along with a copy of the prescripon in case of lost medicaons. Students should also always carry a copy of their medical insurance.

4. Both students and parents should have a copy of all important documents and contact informaon. Copies of passports, idenficaon cards, and banking informaon can be parcularly useful during an emergency. 5. Develop a communicaon plan with family and friends. Internaonal communicaon is easier than ever with things such as internaonal phone plans, Skype, and even social media.
