Seton Catholic is a high school of the Diocese of Phoenix

Most Reverend Thomas J. O'Brien, Bishop

In its thirty-eighth year of existence and its ninth year at the new location, Seton Catholic High School experienced significant growth. With nearly forty more students than the previous year, enrollment climbed to 266.

1992 -'93:

The physical campus also continued its expansion, especially to the south and west, as students, parents, and staff members worked to prepare the grounds for full use.

YEAR OF GROWTH

Signs of growth were evident everywhere on campus, as more lockers had to be assigned, another yellow bus was added, the bicycle rack filled up, and the cafeteria could no longer accommodate everyone for lunch at the same time.

3

A YEAR OF CHAN GE .

As the year began, Brother Casey addressed the students for the first time as their principal. In second quarter, there were also new teachers at Seton Catholic . Ms. Theresa Herold took over English teaching duties, and Mr Michael Eubanks began teaching Spanish and Religious Education Even Seton's music sounded different, with more boys signed up for chorus, and guitars and drums added for the music at the all-school Masses

AND SPIRIT

At pep rallies, indoors and out, the volume was definitely up this year, not only because of larger numbers, but from a noticeable boost in spirit - the Spirit of Seton Catholic .

ORIENT A TION MEANS GETTING TO KNOW WHO'S WHO AND WHAT'S WHAT

At Orientation, both new and returning students have the opportunity to hear about expectations for the year, from Mr. Mauro, Dean of Discipline, and from Matt Mesa, Student Body President. They also learn their way around campus, meet with Big or Little Sisters and Brothers, and catch up on what happened during the summer

SPIRIT WEEK LEADS TO HOM ECOM ING

The last week in October was designated as Spirit Week ' 92 The first major event of the week was the sentencing of all freshmen , to do the bidding of sen1ors for one day. The frosh proved to be good sports, even when asked to perform some embarrassing feats in weird outfits and pounds of makeup

Later in Spirit Week, all the seniors were auctioned off, giving humiliated freshmen and others a chance to boss around the seniors of their choice. Strange outfits and hairdos were aga i n popular, along with all kinds of outrageous tasks for seniors to perform

One element of Spirit Week is the annual compet ition for the Spirit Stick. Classes vie for points in the Mock Rock, cheer competition, decorations , and attendance at the bonfire and Homecoming game

MINI-COURSES FILL GAPS

Between semesters. Seton Catholic students set their regular books aside, hoping to develop some new skills and gain some new insights, in various mini-courses. For one week, they have the opportunity to experience such things as (THIS PAGE) model rocketry, pottery, readers' theater, etiquette, and public service/police techniques. They also get to try (OPPOSITE PAGE) square dancing, JUdo, sign language, baseball fielding, CPR, and even cake decorating.

SETON GATHERS TO PRAY

One of the most consistent and most meaningful aspects of life at Seton Catholic High is the liturgical celebrations. Daily Mass is offered in the chapel, and there are allschool Masses in the cafetorium at least once each month . Our Chaplain, Fr. Clements, is most often our celebrant, but Bishop 0' Brien periodically visits to say Mass. Other priests from the area also concelebrate, especially for holy days. Youth Minister Day, Social Justice Day, our Marian Mass, and Vocations/ Founders' Day .

CLASSWORK PROVIDES CHALLENGES

With its emphasis on college preparation, Seton Catholic demands much of its students and staff, in all classes. Visits to the library (ABOVE) help prepare Setonians for their courses, which include (THIS PAGE) religion, bioi· ogy, algebra, and psychology Other classes include (OPPOSITE PAGE) history, weight training, geometry, art music, and English .

FOOTBALL SENTINELS KEEP DRIVING

THE 1992 SETON FOOTBALL SENTINELS

The 1992 football season was sometimes a frustrating one for Seton players, coaches and fans. Injuries and grades kept several key players sidelined, while the Sentinels faced some powerhouse opponents. Still, the hard-driving play of the Red and Gold earned the respect of opposing teams and coaches. Bright spots in the season were near- wins against Bourgade and Hayden, and lopsided victories over Judson, Queen Creek and San Carlos.

VOLLEYBALL CONTINUES TO GROW

SETON'S

In 1992, Seton Catholic's volleyball teams continued to grow, both in numbers and ability. There were enough girls to divide the junior varsity level into two groups, the Red Squad and the Gold Squad Varsity players were determined and talented enough to better last year's mark.
