CLASSIC (klas ik) adj 1 of the highest class; being a model of its kind; excellent; standard; authoritative; established. 2 . of or having a style that is balanced, formal, objectine, restrained, regular, simple, etc. 3 famous or well known, esp, as being traditional or typical. 4. continuing in fashion because of its simple style -Webster's New World Dictionary n- 1. the 19861987 Setonian

We chose this theme for our 1986-1987 yearbook because we hoped to capture the mood of life at Seton as it will happen in our memories years from now. We hope that in looking through these pages of high school fun, sharing, laughter, and tears, your memories of these times will live on vividly as something that will never go out of style, because they are a part of you.

Through changes that took place at Seton this year, our school w1ll grow to become "a model of its k.nd" and the spirit and pride we take 1n all aspects of our school life will continue to rise. As Seton grew together in spirit this year, we also grew physically, acquinng three new buildings, a few more students, and the coveted accredition.

We sincerely hope that the memones enclosed in this book will hold the meaning of class1c for you, as they did for us in putt1ng them together

The students of Seton High have experienced many new changes m this 1986-1987 school year. With the arnval of many new faculty members as well as the freshmen class. the family spirit of Seton has been enhanced. Not only has the family increased, but so has the size of the campus. The additton of four new classrooms, and a computer room have given the students a change of scenery from the older classrooms Mr Manner has found a new home in the library whrch was completed before the beginning of the school year, and Father Lorig no longer has to hold mass outsrde, the student body now gathers for mass rnside the new cafeteria. Although all these changes occurred, Seton still holds onto its "classic" fam1ly untty.

DRAMA: ''MERRY M£DI£VAL C!IRI!TMAf. I

The Drama Class put on the play "A Merry Medieval Christmas" in December. The play was composed of five different scenes, each portraying a different story: the sending of Lucifer to hell, Adam and Eve. Noah and the arch, Issac and Abraham, and Mary and Jesus. Dan Taylor portrayed God and really made the play a success with his jokes and great acting. Deanna was excellent as Eve being "innocent" all the time! Victor and Nicole were Noah and his wife, and they showed both sides of the story of the flood. Peter, as Issac, really livened things up, especially while on the chopping block under Abraham's ax. Paula was Mary and had a dramatic effect on the play during the birth of Christ. The Chorus brought the· play to a strong conclusion with a festive Christmas concert. The drama class also put on a musical as their spring play. "Finian's Rainbow" was the choice. The story is about an Irishman and his daughter who move from Glocca Morra, Ireland to America. Finian wants to move there because he has found out why Americans are millionaries. But he knows his daughter won't want to move there so he makes up a story about having arthritis and he has to go to America to heal it. Before they leave for America, Finian "borrows" a pot of gold from a leperchaun, Og, played by Jim Thompson. Well, they finally get to Rainbow Valley, Missitucky and they meet Senator Billboard Rawkins, (Deanna), and Woody, (Gabe). who falls in love with Sharon. All is well in Rainbow Valley, but the leperchaun is without a pot of gold. But this emptyness is soon filled by his love for Silent Susan, (Dawn Marie). The yearbook staff would just like to tell you that if you missed this play, you missed a "darn good one".

The class of '87 graduated as the first class to complete all four years at the new Seton Remember freshmen year when none of us knew what to do and we felt so strange in a new school? Remember riding in the school bus down Dobson Road, which was only a slab of cement? We had Mr. Mamara for world history, Mr. Richard for algebra, and Mrs. Menchaca and Mr. Mariner for foreign languages. As time went by we saw new friends come, and old friends leave, and we all grew close as a class. By the time we were juniors it was time for our big retreat up at camp Tipeyac Singing "Sing1ng Skies and Dancing Waters'·. Secret friends, memory books, AI, and a time to grow closer together and to God Then we were seniors. Slave day, senior retreat, prom, graduation. We will never forget our years at Seton.

The boys' J V team this year was coached by Mr Novy , and consisted of 11 freshmen and 2 juniors. Even though the team was young , they had a terrific show of talent out on the court . They improved with each game, and were able to come away with many wins The boys were exciting to watcti, especially when they showed us some of their fancy foot-work. Although they didn't have a perfect record, the future of the boys' team looks bright especially with these players helping it along .

In the Regional Tournament the Varsity Basketball Team returned a favor to Antelope by beating them thus making it to State Playoffs Unfortunately the boys had to play six-time winner, Thatcher, in the first round. The boys were led by eight seniors, all who will be greatly missed next season. Right now however, you can see that the boys had a fantastic season.

VARt/TY 8-BALL: I-lOT 1-fOOPt=COOL WIN.

The girls' basketball team had a classic season this year. It came about from hard work, dedication, and coaching. The work and dedication really began back in June when the girls went to camp and played in B.C.I., a summer league. As Coach Moore would say, "they brought home a little gold" early in the season with the winning of the Phoenix Indian Tournament. It was the first time the girls beat Phoenix Indian Tournament. In conference play, the only blemish on the girls' record was a lose to Ajo. The rest of the year they won their games by an average of 20 points . The girls finished their season with the titles, Co-Champs in the league, B-West Regional Champs, and were in the State Tournament for the second year in a row.

Seton ' s first ever track team consisted of only six members but they did the job Mr Refner their coach was very proud of the " super job" the team did. The faculty and staff of Seton High are in a class by themselves. They are always willing to help their students as well as supporting the athletes. Aside from their teaching duties. or office projects, some are coaches, some monitor clubs, and some are going through their second childhood along with the students. Mr. Moore greets you with his "Beep Beep for the roadrunner handshake". and a friendly smile; Mr. Refner either sees you in his office or through his "Joe Cool" sunglasses; and Mrs. Garcia tends to your every need. Each one has a unique personality, but together they make Seton what it truly IS special.

How interesting

Most of the teachers thiS year seem to have a very pos111ve attitude toward the school, the students. and the staff. When asked what they like most about Seton , hero 1s what some of them sa1d.

Br Haas: "I hke the students most. I have found them to be extremely k1nd and lov1ng toward me when I most need 11. They certainly know how to make the love of Jesus present on the campus "

Mrs Fraser · I hke the Chostlan atmosphere nmong students and staff."

Mr Moore: "I love Seton and also l1ke the s1ze and the ab11ity of students to g1ve of themselves "

Mr Novy· "I hke the smallness of Seton, 1n compaoson to the other local schools. It conlobules to a better learmng enVIronment "

1987 has been a very "classic" year. The world had turned to this elegant title as a marketing product to sell their items, Classic frozen dinners, Classic model homes, ClasSIC mattresses. There has also been a classic lookin fashion, so why not a Classic Seton High yearbook? Although 1987 is also a year of outrageousness, "cool looks", fashion up-keep, it has also focused on the past. Classic cars have once again captured the interest of those who like to keep in style. "Oldie but goodie" music has been re-introduced. "Stand By Me", "Lean on Me", and "Under the Boardwalk" just to name a few have again hit the top of the record charts. "Classic" seems to be a title signifying the best, the best of the past, but also the best of 1987.
