Director's note
Good Things Happen Thrice
Nighttime is when people truly faces themselves. If they do not reflect, they are completely consumed by their inner turmoil (rajas) and will never stop. Even worse, they deceive themselves during the day and remain the same at night.
People fulfill their lives through cognition, judgment, and action. Sensory perception is the basis of cognition, and people's senses are the same. The problem lies in judgment. All the suffering and struggles in the world stem from different value judgments. Where do value judgments come from? From an artist's perspective, it is unclear. What art can know and do is to find the true meaning of human existence. But what is the true meaning of existence? I believe that it is for people to break through the physical limitations of the world and reach eternity. That moment is the true meaning of existence. All explanations, comments, and classifications are just afterthoughts and are not directly related to the true meaning of existence.
My paintings are my moments of reflection. Color, lines, and space are just shapes, and the viewer determines the true meaning within them. My film and play are actually derived from the same source as my paintings, but with different tools.
In the past few years, there have been unprecedented opportunities for self-reflection. If the spirit of art can enter people's souls, we will have more love, understanding, and tolerance! However, this seems to be no easy task.
Perhaps only when people really do it can God see it. This is the true unity of man and nature.

Good Things Happen Thrice: Solo x Film Screening x Exhibition
Solo “The Unfettered Hour”
During his break time, a radio programme host talked to his wife residing overseas in order to save their marriage. Is he courageous enough?
“Farewell” Film Screening
Hong Kong under Covid-19. The sexagenarian stage actor Ng Wai Shek said farewell to friends before going to teach drama in Singapore in early 2022. One afternoon in November 2021, he chatted to the much younger stage actress Lai Yuk Ching. They have collaborated on a number of projects of Tang Shu-wing but seldom opened up as much as now. This film is a recording of their conversation which covers topics like theatre, love, money and fate.
“Tang Shu-wing” Painting Exhibition
Tang had learnt ink painting and sketch drawing before pursuing theatre studies in France. This maybe the source of the fantastic and distinctive visual element in his theatre works. During the past few years, he turned what he perceived into abstract images, which can be seen as an act of meditation in unsettling times.
Good Things Happen Thrice: Solo x Film Screening x Exhibition
The running time of the performance is approximately 1 hour without intermission. Latecomers will only be admitted at a suitable break.

Tang Shu-wing Theatre Studio
“To enrich public’s life through theatre”
Founded in 2011 with a former name as No Man’s Land that was registered in 1997, Tang Shu-wing Theatre Studio is a centre for theatrical research and creation. We believe that art is a platform for feeling and expression. The internal transformation within ourselves created by theatre is the most mysterious experience. Our minimalist body aesthetics is not confined by any single theory because the most joyful part of being an artist is to realise when to insist and when to open up. We create our works with specific artistic propositions through exploration of related practice. Until now, we have created 19 productions including “Titus Andronicus”, “Titus Andronicus 2.0”, “Detention”, “Thunderstorm”, “Why Aren’t You Steve Jobs?”, “Macbeth” (later renamed as “The Tragedy of Macbeth”), “Dead Man’s Cell Phone”, "Larger Than Life" and "King Lear". As a team, we support each other to realise our mission. Apart from creation, we are consciously concerned about the next generation as well as the community. In 2014, we initiated “Physical Theatre Youth Training Programme", which has established a brand of theatre training.
As a recognition of its contribution and leading role in contemporary arts and culture, the Studio is named an "Eminent Arts Group" by the Hong Kong Arts Development Council in 2019.
