The Israel Plectrum Orchestra, managed with dedication and vision, made a significant mark in major international music festivals across Europe, including Germany, France, Poland, Italy, and Israel. Under the guidance of Musical Director Professor Moti Schmitt, the project’s primary goal was to blend the distinct sound of classical mandolins with the grandeur of a symphonic orchestra. This innovative collaboration not only resulted in unforgettable performances but also inspired renowned composers to create unique works, fostering a cultural and artistic exchange between different musical traditions.

The Israeli Plectrum Orchestra is a unique phenomenon in both the Israeli and international music scenes, offering a fresh perspective to music lovers. For 14 years, I had the honor of conducting and dedicating my efforts to the growth and development of this orchestra. Through hard work and commitment, I helped shape it into the renowned and respected ensemble it is today, securing its place as a prominent force in the world of classical music.

Our orchestra performed together with the Reutlingen Symphony Orchestra and the Israeli Chamber Orchestra, which catapulted the mandolin into the musical mainstream as a modern and innovative instrument.”

sind Preisträger zahlreicher Wettbewerbe (u. a. „ECHO Klassik“ für Michael Tröster).
Ihre jahrelange kammermusikalische Erfahrung in den verschiedensten Besetzungen hat dieses MandolinenGitarren-Duo zu einer besonderen Einheit verschmelzen lassen. Konzertreisen führten das Duo Trekel–Tröster in viele Teile Deutschlands sowie nach Spanien, Polen, Holland, die Schweiz, Weißrussland, Österreich, Japan und Südkorea. Es trat bei großen Festivals und in verschiedenen Konzerthäusern auf und begeisterte Publikum und Fachpresse gleichermaßen.
Ihre Programme umfassen den gesamten Bereich der Originalmusik für Mandoline und Gitarre sowie auch Bearbeitungen besonders geeigneter Werke. Ein besonderer Schwerpunkt liegt auf der Wiedergabe effektvoller und mitreißender zeitgenössischer Musik, was auch die drei bisher erschienenen CDs belegen.

For ten years now, these two have been one of the foremost duos in this exqui site chamber musical combination. Both musicians are among the most successful representatives of their field and they have both won prizes in numerous competitions (i.e. “ECHO Klassik” for Michael Tröster).
Their years of chamber music experience in all sorts of combinations enable this mandolin and guitar duo to blend into a very special unit.
Concert tours have taken the TrekelTröster duo to many parts of Germany as well as Spain, Poland, Holland, Switzerland, Belarus, Austria, Japan and South Korea. They have performed at major music festivals and in various concert halls and delighted both audiences and critics.
Their programmes include the whole field of original music for mandolin and guitar and also arrangements of especially suitable works.
One point of particular emphasis is presenting effective and exciting contemporary music, as is evidenced by the three CDs which have appeared so far.

Queen Elizabeth Hall in London und beim Fernsehsender der BBC in Bristol. Der derzeitige Leiter, Moti Shmit, ist einer der führenden Geiger in Israel und Lehrer an der Hochschule für Musik und Tanz in Jerusalem.
Im Juli 2008 nahm das Orchester am „Musikfestival in Bialystok“ (Polen) teil und erhielt den 1. Preis im Musikwettbewerb mit 24 Teilnehmern.
Im Juli 2009 nahm das Orchester am „7. International Festival of Mandolins and Guitar Orchestras“ in Remiremont (Frankreich) teil und hatte – wie auch beim „eurofestival 2010“ – die Ehre, das Eröffnungskonzert zu spielen. 2012 wurde das Orchester von der Stadt Venedig eingeladen, an einem Mandolinen-Festival zum Gedenken an die Tsunami-Opfer in Japan mitzuwirken.
The Israeli Plectrum Orchestra was established 40 years ago. Concerts and recordings for television and radio have taken the orchestra all over the world. It has performed several times with symphony orchestras like the Israel Philharmonic or the Alabama Orchestra (USA).
The orchestra has played in the Queen Elizabeth Hall in London and the BBC Television in Bristol. The present conductor is Moti Shmit, one of the leading violinists of his country and teacher at the Academy of Music and Dance in Jerusalem.
On July 2008, the Orchestra participated in a musical festival in Bialystok (Poland) and received the first prize in the musical competition with 24 delegations.
On July 2009, the Orchestra participated in the 7th. International Festival of Mandolins and Guitar Orchestras in Remiremont (France) and was honored to play the opening concert. In June 2010 the orchestra participated in E.G.M.A‘s International eurofestival in Bruchsal (Germany) where it was privileged to open the festival.
On October 2012, the Orchestra was invited by the Municipality of Venice
to participate in a mandolin festival in the memory of the tsunami victims in Japan.
Schäfer-Quintett
Sarah Schäfer, Jonas Matt, Jenny Hill, Ole Sörensen und Meike Stenzel erhalten Unterricht über den Mandolinen- und Gitarrenverein Wickenrode. Ariane und Wolfgang Lorch haben mit dem Verein ein Modell der Nachwuchsförderung erarbeitet, bei dem das Augenmerk auf der Schulung des Zusammenspiels liegt. Nach drei Monaten Einzelunterricht lernen die Kinder im KZO Rasselbande elementare Grundlagen durch Reaktions-, Dirigier-, Dynamik- u. Rhythmusspiele unter Einbeziehung von Sprache, Gesang und Theater. Nach der Grundschule wechseln die Schüler in das JZO Chanterelle. Die Jugendlichen lernen Musik aller Epochen kennen und aufführen.

The connection between Rosh HaAyin and the story of the children of “Villa Emma” began when Sdomi met an elderly woman in Pordenone during a regional festival in 2018. She emotionally shared about the children of Villa Emma, who were saved by residents of Nonantola during World War II. This encounter moved Tsuriel to investigate further, revealing a heroic yet unrecognized act by the villagers. Alongside his friend Raffaello Hatuka, Tsuriel approached the mayor of Rosh Ha’Ayin to construct a park and monument commemorating this humanitarian effort. The project was realized, which also included an educational center for Israeli and Italian children to promote intercultural understanding. Additionally, Tsuriel collaborated with Francesco Lotoro to preserve and promote musical compositions created during the Holocaust, aiming to establish a profound connection between younger generations in Israel and Italy through music and historical remembrance.

INAUGURATION OF THE MONUMENT
The inauguration of the monument in Rosh Ha’Ayin took place in 2020; however, due to the pandemic, the major event had to be postponed and rescheduled for 2023.
Members of the Rosh Ha’Ayin community (Tsuriel Sdomi) were invited to a ceremony of gratitude and recognition in Nonantola to receive a certificate of acknowledgment and thanks for their gesture regarding the monument in Rosh Ha’Ayin.

The event featured a diverse collection of paintings and sculptures created by participants of various ages and backgrounds, including students, working professionals, and retirees. This diversity showcased the inclusive nature of Diokan School’s art program. The exhibition highlighted a broad spectrum of artistic expression and perspectives, made possible by expert guidance and mentorship. The support provided was instrumental in helping participants develop their talents and confidence, demonstrating the program’s commitment to fostering creativity and appreciation for the arts.

THE ART EXHIBITIONS, STANDS AS A TESTAMENT TO THE ENDURING IMPACT OF ART IN HONORING THE PAST, ENRICHING THE PRESENT, AND INSPIRING THE FUTURE.
The sculpture “Captive,” created in 2008, is a classic-style piece that explores themes of internal and emotional captivity. Crafted from plaster, the work depicts a man in a pose of containment and reflection, symbolizing the struggle and sense of psychological confinement. The elegant texture and form of the plaster highlight the weight of emotional imprisonment and lend the sculpture an air of timelessness. “Captive” invites viewers to examine their own internal limitations and contemplate the process of personal liberation.

“The Grimm Brothers’ New Fairy Tales” and “The Case of the German Doctor” address profound and contemporary themes in their respective narratives. Published in 2019 by Pardes Publishing, “The Grimm Brothers’ New Fairy Tales”, written by Tsuriel Sdomi, quickly became a best-seller in Israel, holding this status for two consecutive years. The book explores universal issues such as prejudice, gender, and racial tensions. Following its initial success, it was translated into English and Italian in 2024 and is currently under negotiation for publication in other countries. On the other hand, “The Case of the German Doctor”, published in English by Ebook-Pro Agency in April 2023, is based on real events and follows the story of William, a gynaecologist facing a controversial trial. The book was a best-seller on Amazon for one month and, after its presentation at the Frankfurt Book Fair, was selected by Simon & Schuster for global distribution. It is set to be translated into Italian and Spanish, with a release scheduled for November 2024 by the Spanish agency, which will distribute it across all Spanish-speaking countries.

When William von Antrim decided to pursue a career as a doctor, working to help Jewish survivors recover from the horrors of World War II, he believed he was doing all in his power to help his people survive. A German refugee himself, William fled to America with his mother after she was accused of being of Jewish descent. William’s father left them with only his estate, his family name, and his legacy.
PUBLICATION AND DISTRIBUTION
The Case of the German Doctor is based on a true story. William, the son of an SS officer with aristocratic heritage, was sent to the United States with his mother at the outbreak of the war, following a letter from the Gestapo indicating that his mother, despite her Aryan appearance, had Jewish ancestry. In the U.S., they receive financial support from their family in Germany and become actively involved in the Jewish community.
At the end of the war, William receives a letter from his grandmother stating that his father was killed heroically in battle. Already pursuing medical studies, William travels to visit his dying grandmother. After her death, he inherits a noble title and a substantial family fortune. After graduating, he specialises in gynaecology and travels to London for a medical conference, where he meets a mysterious German doctor who reveals that his father was captured by Soviet forces, tried in a field trial, and executed for genocide. Shocked by this revelation, William returns to the U.S., opens a private clinic, and dedicates his efforts to assisting Jewish women rescued from the camps, with the help of his cousin Katharina, a professor of genetics. Encouraged by Katharina, William decides to use his own seed to impregnate these women.
William is subsequently prosecuted by Erica, a GermanJewish Holocaust survivor, who accuses him of attempting to exterminate a nation by implanting his DNA in the survivors. The case is handled by the New York Attorney General, who survived a pogrom perpetrated by his Polish nanny. William is defended by a renowned Orthodox Jewish lawyer. The trial raises profound and challenging questions about the inheritance of absolute human evil, with the plot unfolding rapidly towards a surprising conclusion.
