Greetings TSU Alumni, Family and Friends,
As we step into a new fiscal year, this is the perfect moment to reset, refocus, and recommit to the vital mission of the Tennessee State University Foundation With fresh energy and a renewed sense of purpose, we welcome the incoming class of Tigers bright, bold, and full of promise These students represent the future of our beloved alma mater, and they are counting on us
We also want to extend a warm welcome to our newest Foundation members and supporters. Whether you are a long-time advocate or newly engaged, your presence is meaningful. As we grow in number, we grow in strength and our collective impact on student success becomes even greater.
This year, let’s challenge ourselves individually and collectively. Let every member give at a new level. Whether that means increasing your annual contribution, establishing a recurring gift, or simply spreading the word and encouraging others to support TSU and the Foundation every action counts. Your generosity helps fund scholarships, programs, and initiatives that open doors and change lives.
Let’s make this the year we elevate our giving and deepen our commitment. Our students are ready for their journey. Let’s make sure the Foundation is ready to support them every step of the way. Thank you for all you do to support The University and its future. Let’s continue to rise together. With gratitude,
Warm regards,
Valerie R. Love Chair, Tennessee State University Foundation Board of Directors
For nearly three decades, Procter & Gamble executive and Tennessee State University Foundation Board Member, Lesia Riddick has exemplified what it means to be a proud graduate, dedicated professional, and passionate advocate for student success. A 1997 graduate of the College of Engineering with a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Riddick credits TSU not only with launching her career but also with shaping her into a leader who’s committed to giving back
She first encountered the university through a transformative summer engineering program that led to a full scholarship an opportunity she describes as life-changing. “I understood financial need, so having that support meant everything,” she shared After completing her undergraduate degree, she was hired directly by Procter & Gamble, where she has since spent 27 years in roles spanning process engineering, research and development, and now cybersecurity, where she serves as a director
She attributes much of her professional versatility and resilience to the rigorous preparation and culture of excellence she experienced at TSU “Our dean at the time was tough, but he made sure we were ready not just technically, but professionally,” she recalled “We were taught how to navigate corporate America, and that foundation made it easier for me to transition through different career paths.”
Her commitment to TSU extends well beyond gratitude As a current board member of the TSU Foundation, Riddick is deeply invested in cultivating a new generation of student success stories “Being invited to serve on the Foundation was an honor,” she said “At first, I thought the role was all about fundraising, but I quickly realized it’s much more than that. We’re here to support students in every way possible ”
That student-first focus has informed her philanthropic priorities Alongside her husband, she established a fully endowed scholarship for engineering students “We don’t have children, so creating a legacy through education was important to us,” she said.
She has also supported initiatives like the College of Engineering’s long-awaited building fund, the ECI summer program, and the Cincinnati Alumni Chapter’s emergency assistance fund
As chapter treasurer, she continues to invest her time and resources in initiatives that directly impact students.
One of the highlights of her involvement has been seeing the tangible outcomes of her contributions “Yes, we fund scholarships, but we’re also investing in professional development, mentorship, and student preparedness,” she said Riddick is especially enthusiastic about the Foundation’s “Land of Golden Sunshine” event, which equips students with professional skills in areas like financial literacy, attire, and career readiness “That kind of programming prepares students for more than just graduation it prepares them for life.”

For alumni uncertain about giving, her message is clear: “Even if your experience wasn’t perfect, your degree opened doors Giving back is your chance to improve the path for someone else ” Whether through time, talent, or financial support, she believes every alum has something valuable to contribute. And through her actions, Lesia Riddick continues to prove that the most meaningful legacy is the one that lifts others higher.

For Paris Christian Goodlow, a recent Psychology graduate with a minor in Education from Gary, Indiana, receiving the IMPACT Scholarship from the TSU Foundation was more than financial assistance it was a lifeline.
As a first-generation college student, Goodlow has faced the harsh reality that academic excellence alone does not shield one from the financial burdens of higher education. Throughout his time at Tennessee State University, he juggled a full-time course load while working full-time jobs, often paying tuition and fees out of his own pocket. Despite his relentless commitment, the threat of being purged due to unpaid balances loomed over multiple semesters, making the dream of walking across the graduation stage feel fragile.
“The IMPACT Scholarship allowed me to breathe,” Goodlow shared. “It let me focus on finishing strong without constantly worrying whether I could afford to continue. It meant everything to me that the institution recognized my hard work and chose to support me.”
The scholarship didn’t just alleviate a financial hurdle it reaffirmed Goodlow’s belief in the power of education and the role TSU plays in uplifting its students. With the support of the Foundation, he found not only relief but encouragement to keep moving forward with purpose.
Goodlow has already set his sights on returning to TSU to pursue a master’s degree. His journey is far from over, and the impact of the scholarship will continue to resonate in his story of persistence and promise.
“I truly hope to go on to have great success at such a phenomenal institution,” he said. “And I carry with me the gratitude and inspiration that this support has provided.”
Goodlow’s experience is a powerful reminder of why scholarship support matters not just to help students stay enrolled, but to let them breathe, believe, and boldly finish what they started.
For Faith Ware, a recent Criminal Justice graduate from DeKalb, Illinois, the IMPACT Scholarship from the TSU Foundation did more than cover a financial gap it changed the trajectory of her future
Like many students, Ware entered her final semester burdened with financial worry. Despite the joy of completing her undergraduate studies and walking the stage at commencement, a lingering account balance cast a shadow over her achievements. That outstanding debt threatened to delay her next steps, including applying to graduate programs and pursuing career opportunities that require official transcripts
The IMPACT Scholarship erased that uncertainty With her balance cleared, Ware now moves into her postgraduate journey with confidence and clarity. She’s actively preparing to apply for master’s programs and feels a renewed sense of freedom knowing her transcripts are no longer held hostage by financial constraints
“This scholarship has lifted an enormous weight off my shoulders and brought me a sense of peace I have not felt in months,” she said.
Ware’s story is one of resilience and hope and a testament to how meaningful scholarship support can be The IMPACT Scholarship did more than help her meet a financial deadline; it gave her a fresh start and the freedom to dream without barriers.
I am forever grateful for this opportunity,” Ware said. “It has not only relieved my financial stress but also given me the fresh start I needed. Thanks to this generous support, I can now begin my post-graduate life with a clean slate and an open path toward my goals.”
For Faith Ware, a recent Criminal Justice graduate from DeKalb, Illinois, the IMPACT Scholarship from the TSU Foundation did more than cover a financial gap it changed the trajectory of her future.
Ware’s journey reminds us that behind every scholarship is a student with a vision and when given the opportunity, that vision can thrive

Following a season marked by remarkable success and heartfelt engagement, The Land of Golden Sunshine will make its highly anticipated return on August 29, 2025. As a cornerstone event for the Tennessee State University Foundation, this celebration has evolved into more than just a gathering it is a catalyst for intergenerational connection, shared purpose, and collective empowerment.
Held biannually in both the spring and fall semesters this signature occasion brings together TSU’s most promising students and its most generous benefactors. Through candid dialogue, immersive learning sessions, and intentional mentorship moments, The Land of Golden Sunshine bridges the aspirations of tomorrow’s leaders with the legacies of those who invest in their success.
Students are invited to engage, ask questions, and walk away with wisdom that cannot be taught in a classroom. Donors, in turn, are offered a firsthand view of how their generosity shapes lives and unlocks doors once thought closed. These exchanges are not transactional they are transformational.
As we look ahead to this fall’s event, both students and donors are encouraged to come prepared: not just with resumes or checkbooks, but with open minds, listening hearts, and a commitment to cultivating TSU’s next chapter. Your voice, your presence, and your investment of time, experience, or resources make a meaningful difference.
At its core, The Land of Golden Sunshine is about more than recognition or tradition. It is about building bridges one conversation, one story, one relationship at a time. And in doing so, we illuminate a brighter path forward for the TSU community and beyond.
As we close the books on another fiscal year and look toward the horizon of opportunity before us, the Tennessee State University Foundation remains steadfast in providing critical financial support for our students, fuel innovation, and sustain the legacy of excellence that defines our institution Each year, our momentum is made possible by you, our Foundation members, who continue to believe in the power of giving
This Year’s Focus: Giving at a New Level
In the spirit of growth and impact, we are issuing a bold but achievable challenge to every member of the Foundation: increase your giving level in the 2025 fiscal year Whether that means moving from The President’s Society to The Lifetime Society, or simply adding a recurring gift to your annual contribution, every step forward strengthens our ability to respond to student needs with agility and compassion
Last year, your gifts helped fund scholarships, support first-generation students, expand student emergency services, and provide opportunities for academic and professional development This year, we want to do even more and we can, with your continued and increased support
With a new class of Tigers arriving this fall, we are reminded of the promises we make as an institution: to welcome, support, and propel our students toward their greatest potential. Many of them are arriving with dreams, talent, and determination but limited financial resources. Your increased investment will help ensure that no deserving student is turned away due to lack of funding.
Our Financial Outlook: Positive and PurposeDriven
We enter the new fiscal year in a position of stability, thanks to your consistent giving and the strategic management of our assets However, the rising cost of education, inflation, and the growing number of students needing assistance call for a rise in philanthropic response
Our goal this year is to increase member contributions by 20% across all giving levels. This means not only growing our base of contributors but also deepening the commitment of our current members. We've launched new engagement tools to help make giving easier, more impactful, and more personal including automatic recurring donations, customized impact reports, and recognition programs.
As we enter this next chapter, we invite you to reflect on what level of impact you’d like to make in the year ahead Giving isn’t just about dollars it’s about dreams, possibilities, and leadership. As a TSU Foundation member, you are setting the pace for what’s possible. Let’s rise to the occasion!.
