AUGUST Skokie’s Backlot Bash closes the summer season and draws 55,000-60,000 people to an action-packed downtown summer street festival. The name “Backlot” pays tribute to downtown Skokie’s heritage as a major silent film industry back lot set between 1907 and 1915. Each year, the Backlot Bash will feature more than 15 hours of free live music – both regional and national acts – on a main stage. The event also features an amusement park/carnival, 5K run, silent movies in Redmacker Auditorium at the Skokie Public Library, classic auto show, business expo and sidewalk sale, teen activities, bingo, food and beer and the Rotary Club pancake breakfast. The event is a collaboration of the Downtown Skokie Alliance, the Skokie Park District, the Village of Skokie, the Skokie Public Library and the Skokie Chamber of Commerce & Industry, any of which can be contacted for further information and dates, or visit www.backlotbash.com.
