Initially used for trade purposes, the Chicago Northwestern Railroad operated until the early 1970s when the tracks were converted into what is now known as the Fox River Trail. A replica of a passenger train station, also known as The Depot, was completed in 1989 and operates year-round with the help of community volunteers. During the spring and summer months, The Depot on River Street hosts two different weekend markets. The Saturday Depot Market, offering a wide variety of items and the Sunday Farmers Market, providing Kane County sourced farm-fresh products and food vendors, along with live music, special events and community lunches. The newly renovated Depot and its grounds are always a hub of activity and easily accessible from the Fox River Trail. A full roster of summer events, coupled with such
favorites as the St. Patrick’s Day Parade, Heritage Fest, and Dickens in Dundee, continue to draw visitors from throughout the region. All are welcome at these events, that offer residents and visitors alike a chance to enjoy the many restaurants, pubs and shops in East Dundee’s vibrant historic downtown.
