LINDSAY PUBLIC SCHOOLS BY DAN CHAPMAN Superintendent of Lindsay Schools The Lindsay Public School System has a tradition of excellence in both academic and co-curricular pursuits. In 1954 the Lindsay Public School System became a pioneer by setting standards beyond those required by the state when the school became one of the first 10 schools in Oklahoma to achieve total accreditation by the North Central Association of Schools and Colleges, a rigorous monitor of school achievement throughout the United States, now known as Advanc ED. To this day, Lindsay Schools maintain this tradition at all levels, from pre-kindergarten through 12th grade. During the 2015-16 school year, Lindsay Public Schools underwent its five-year, in-depth, on-site accreditation evaluation and received very high scores. In further recognition of excellence, Lindsay Schools were recently named to a list of the top 10 schools in Oklahoma (including both large and small, rural and urban) compiled by the U S. News and World Report magazine.
A plan for future growth Lindsay school patrons, along with the school administration and staff, began to recognize in the last decade the need for updating and adding to existing school plant facilities. Incorporating people from all walks of life in the community, a fact-gathering committee began discussions to seek out diverse opinions within the community about the future needs of the district. This process culminated in 2014 with a formal presentation to the Lindsay Board of Education, outlining a plan for future growth of school facilities. A year-long campaign to inform the voting public about school needs resulted in a bond issue passage in September 2015. Included in the bond issue were facilities that will enhance the educational opportunities of all Lindsay school children. A new fifth grade center is being built in the elementary school. New safe rooms and band practice rooms are being incorporated into the new basketball arena.

A new field house, concessions, and football stadium will provide a totally new facility for football and track athletes with its incorporated track. In addition to building new facilities, renovations to other areas of the school are part of the longterm plan for school improvement. The agriculture show barns and facilities include a new commons area for meetings, new concession areas and restroom facilities. Though plans are not firmly in place, other projected plans include renovation of existing band rooms and the gym weight room as possible sites for new state-of-the art technology classrooms. Through the foresight of progressive Lindsay patrons, the Lindsay Board of Education and Lindsay school staff, the current and future physical needs of district students are in the process of being built or in the planning stages.
Achieving academic excellence As a result of the school’s dedication to high standards, Lindsay students have annually been recognized among the top academic students in the state. Lindsay High School academic teams have reached the state finals of the Aca-
