ine years after moving to Arlington Heights to open a fitness business, Jason and Ashley Miller earned the title of “Business of the Year” from the Arlington Heights Chamber of Commerce for their “Fitness 19” at 1601 W. Campbell St. Both Millers are certified personal trainers and after working in the industry in Ohio for several years, they were offered the opportunity to open a new Fitness 19 franchise and moved to Arlington Heights. Today their Arlington Heights Fitness 19, which offers circuit training, cardio equipment, a free weight area, child care and changing facilities and lockers, is expanding by another 2,200 square feet. They will use this space for group training, yoga and spinning, Jason said. “People now, more than ever, understand the benefits of yoga and enjoy the camaraderie of group training. Creating a space for these types of group classes is important to us,” he said. The Arlington Heights Fitness 19 currently has members ranging in age from 12 to 90. “We welcome all ages and all fitness levels. Specifically, we are finding younger generations are increasingly aware of the importance of fitness, health and wellness.” Because the Millers are innovators, they are continually looking for ways to improve and expand their Fitness 19 offerings. In addition to adding space for group classes, they are currently working on introducing an online fitness training program, F19 Online Training, which members can use at home, in the gym or at another facility. “We want to further expand our ability to help our members and the community,” Jason said. “We have taken note of national surveys in which 51 percent of respondents say that they exercise, but only 18 percent actually go to a gym. So we want to offer this as both a supplement for our current members and a way to appeal to those who wish to exercise at home.” Once they get traction with the online program, the Millers foresee possibly expanding its availability to members of other Fitness 19 clubs in Illinois and elsewhere.
The Fitness 19 facility is open seven days a week. Check the website (www.fitness19.com/centers/arlington-heights) for exact hours. Memberships are affordable, beginning at $12 per month for an individual, Jason said. Even the corporate website states, “We don’t require long-term contracts. We believe you should work out because it’s what you want to do. Affordable prices paired with a family-friendly environment and stateof-the-art equipment combine for a unique and inviting experience.” Fitness 19 was founded in California in 2003 by fitness industry veterans who believed that the traditional health club model wasn’t meeting the needs of most people. The result is a simple fitness club concept – an extremely affordable, family-friendly facility that offers state-of-the-art cardio, strength and free weight equipment. There are now 120 Fitness 19 facilities nationwide.
