Our mission is to support and inspire HBCU students, ensuring they have the tools and guidance necessary to excel academically, thrive in their careers, and become leaders in their communities. The First in our Generation Foundation is a dedicated non-profit organization focused on delivering mentorship, vital resources, and educational pathways to students at Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). A students are beginning their college journey or advancing into the business world, our foundation is committed to equipping them with the tools necessary for a successful academic experience and a fulfilling career.

At the heart of our mission is a commitment to providing invaluable support, which financial literacy courses, career and professional development workshops, mentorship programs, and more. Our goal is to ensure that every student has access to the resources needed for a memorable and impactful college experience, leading to success beyond graduation.

Founded by visionary first-generation graduates and HBCU alumni, the First in our Generation Foundation understands the critical need for additional resources and guidance in the pursuit of higher education. We strongly believe that no student should be hindered from achieving a better life due to a lack of resources, background, or social status. Through our comprehensive initiatives, we aim to close the resource gap and empower every HBCU student with the necessary tools to excel both academically and professionally.

FINANCIAL LITERACY PROGRAM

ABOUT

The virtual Experian Financial Literacy Program is designed specifically for students at Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) to empower them with the essential financial knowledge and skills needed to navigate the complexities of personal and professional finance. The course covers a wide range of topics, including budgeting, credit management, debt reduction, investing, and financial planning. Through interactive lessons, hands-on workshops, and expert guest speakers, students will gain the tools and confidence to make informed financial decisions that support their long-term goals.

TARGET AUDIENCE

HBCU Students, 18-24 aged group

WHAT THEY WILL LEARN

Budgeting, Credit Management, Debt Reduction (including student loans), Investments (Stocks, Bonds, 401k, Roth IRA’s), and Financial Planning

METRICS OF SUCCESS

Measurement of program participation numbers, tracking hours spent on financial literacy, evaluating the retention rates of actively engaged students, and assessing the impact on students’ career progression and leadership development.

BACKGROUND

Each semester, we are inundated with hundreds of applications from students eager to intern. This overwhelming response underscores the strong interest in our company and internship program, making our selection process highly competitive. These students; enthusiasm and passion are remarkable and stand out. Recognizing the limitations of our “traditional” internship positions, we introduced the College Advisory Board (CAB).

We specifically invited students who demonstrated exceptional passion and enthusiasm to join this exclusive group, which adds value to their resumes and provides them with a unique opportunity to engage with our company meaningfully.

We are known for our commitment to uplifting and empowering communities, recognizes the importance of supporting students at Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs).

In line with this mission, we propose the establishment of the College Advisory Board program tailored to cater to the unique needs of HBCU students.

This initiative also seeks to increase the visibility of the organization’s brand by collaborating with local businesses, HBCUs, students, and through community service efforts.

CAB tailors TO the unique needs of HBCU students

MISSION STATEMENT

The College Advisory Board program aims to provide mentorship, career enrichment, leadership development, and community engagement opportunities for students at HBCUs, while bringing forth visibility to the brand through partnerships with local businesses, HBCUs and students, community service.

PROGRAM STRUCTURE

• The program will operate as one big cohort through chapters established within different HBCUs.

• Each chapter will comprise the CAB manager and student representative designated as a liaison between the college and our program.

• The on-site student liaison will facilitate communication, offer guidance, and coordinate program initiatives within the campus community, while the CAB manager oversees all initiatives throughout each chapter.

PILLARS OF THE PROGRAM

1. Mentorship:Pairing students with mentors to provide guidance and support in their academic and professional endeavors.

2. Career Development: Organizing career fairs, workshops, and internships to promote integrated employment opportunities.

3. Leadership Training: Conducting leadership seminars, workshops, and training sessions to cultivate leadership skills among students.

4. Community Engagement: Encouraging participation in community service projects to foster inclusivity and social responsibility.
