Thanks to our donors’ generous support, our campus continues to grow and evolve, providing a welcoming environment where students can learn, discover, and thrive. Your generosity enhances our facilities, expands access through meaningful financial aid, and enriches academic programs that inspire curiosity, confidence, and achievement. Together, we’re helping every Harford Day student reach their full potential.
At Harford Day School, learning is a joyful process rooted in respectful relationships, strong traditions, and an innovative program that fosters confidence, imagination, curiosity, and engagement with the world.
Harford Day’s mission statement succinctly captures the essence of the Harford Day experience that has been consistent since the School’s founding in 1957, and serves as our guide, along with our core values, for all decisions great and small. As a faculty and staff, we strive to live our mission and values everyday with our students, and invite you, our parents and supporters, to reaffirm it with us as our partners.

THE 2025–26 SCHOOL year ushers in a season of momentum and possibility at Harford Day School. We are filled with a deep sense of excitement and purpose. With the extraordinary progress of recent years and the steadfast generosity of our community, we now stand ready to take the next step in bringing our campus master plan to life.
This next phase represents far more than new buildings or improved facilities — it is a defining moment in our school’s history. It is the chance to create dynamic spaces that will enrich learning, inspire creativity, and strengthen the bonds of community for decades to come. These spaces will be the backdrop where children discover their passions, teachers ignite curiosity, and friendships are formed that last a lifetime.
For over sixty-five years, Harford Day has been a place where curiosity is nurtured, creativity is celebrated, and community is cherished. As we embark on this new chapter, we carry forward that spirit of discovery, innovation, and belonging. The future we envision is bold and bright, and with your continued support, it is within reach.
On behalf of our entire community, we thank you for your unwavering commitment to Harford Day.

With Sincere Gratitude,

Your partnership makes this possible. Each gift, each act of support, helps ensure that today’s students benefit from the very best educational opportunities while laying a strong foundation for generations yet to come. Together, we are building more than a school; we are shaping a vibrant, enduring legacy.

At Harford Day School, we value EPIC-G:
We believe that understanding and respecting one another are essential to our shared future.
We believe that hard work and personal responsibility are necessary to progress in every realm of our lives.
We believe that speaking and acting with principle are the most powerful means through which we all may thrive.
We believe that the connections among us provide wisdom and strength.
We believe that our ongoing growth as individuals fulfills an obligation to ourselves and to each other.

THE ANNUAL BLUE & GREEN FUND
is a vital source of support for the day-to-day operations of Harford Day School. It plays a key role in enhancing the educational experience by funding initiatives that directly impact student learning and school excellence.
This includes professional development opportunities that keep our faculty informed of the latest educational practices, ultimately leading to improved student outcomes. The fund also supports faculty salaries, helping the school attract and retain talented, passionate educators.
In addition, it provides essential academic resources — from classroom supplies to cutting-edge technology — that enrich the
learning environment. Contributions also support ongoing facility improvements, ensuring that our campus remains safe, welcoming, and conducive to learning.
The fund supports enriching field trips that extend learning beyond the classroom and foster the real-world skills and experiences students need to thrive in today’s world and beyond.
In short, the Annual Blue & Green Fund is essential to upholding the exceptional standards of education and community at Harford Day School.

TUITION covers an important portion of Harford Day School’s expenses, but it doesn’t fully fund the comprehensive and enriching education we strive to provide. That’s why the Annual Blue & Green Fund is so crucial — it helps bridge the gap and ensures our students receive the best possible learning experience.
When you contribute, you directly support essential programs like teacher training, innovative classroom tools, and extracurricular activities that help shape a well-rounded education. Your generosity strengthens the quality of teaching and the breadth of opportunities available to every student.
Beyond meeting current needs, the Annual Blue & Green Fund allows Harford Day School to adapt and grow — investing in new initiatives and improvements that keep our school at the forefront of education. Your gift is more than a donation; it’s a meaningful investment in nurturing an environment where every student can thrive and reach their fullest potential.

You are the living legacy of our school.

Operating an independent School requires more than tuition alone. Our budget relies on successful fundraising efforts.
AT HARFORD DAY, we prioritize prudent financial planning to ensure the sustainability of our independent school. As we do not receive financial support from federal, state, or local governments, nor from any church or religious organization, our revenue relies solely on tuition, fundraising, interest and dividends, and proceeds from special programs. To maintain a balanced budget and secure our future, we must raise additional funds beyond tuition revenue, a common practice among independent schools. We invite all parents and community members to contribute to the Annual Blue & Green
Fund at the start of each school year. Your contributions play a vital role in supporting the educational programs that have been collaboratively developed and nurtured over the past 65 years. Your gift to Harford Day represents a commitment to fostering excellence in our educational community and ensuring that our rich legacy continues to thrive. Thank you for being an integral part of our mission!

Consider the various ways to contribute, including planned giving, matching gifts, and gifts of stock, to strengthen our mission.
Depending on the type of planned gift you choose, you may receive income from your gift while, at the same time, saving on taxes and donating assets to the school, tax free.
You may have the option to match your gift from your employer.
Matching gifts are a great way to double the impact of your gift to the School. Please check with your employer to see if they offer matching gifts.
Gifts of securities, including stocks, bonds, and mutual funds, may be transferred through your broker to the School’s gift account at Brown Advisory. Please contact the Office of Advancement for assistance with these types of gifts.
Contributing to our school is vital for maintaining Harford Day’s cherished legacy, positively impacting students and families today and in the future.
Throughout our lives, we play many roles and achieve various successes. However, what truly matters are the accomplishments that infuse our lives with purpose and meaning. Each alumna/ alumnus, parent, and friend of Harford Day has their own unique reasons for remembering the School in their estate planning. Whether viewed as a way to give back for an exceptional education or as an opportunity to invest in future generations, a planned gift is a profound way to make a lasting impact.
Planned gifts offer you the chance to create a legacy that reflects your values. Depending on your circumstances and the type of planned gift you
choose, you may be able to receive income from your gift while enjoying tax savings and passing assets to the School, tax-free. Your investment in Harford Day ensures that we can uphold our mission and continue providing an excellent education.
To guarantee that future generations experience the same or an even higher level of excellence as those before them, we rely on your continued support.
For more information on how you can create a meaningful legacy that benefits Harford Day School, please contact the Office of Advancement.

We encourage parents to prioritize Harford Day School in their philanthropic efforts while their children are enrolled. Similarly, we believe alumni will recognize the vital role HDS played in their success and will contribute to ensuring future generations have the same opportunities. Donations to the Annual Blue & Green Fund range from $1 to $50,000. While larger gifts significantly bolster the school’s financial health, every contribution counts and makes a meaningful impact. Supporting the Annual Blue & Green Fund reflects a donor’s commitment to the school.
IF I CAN’T MAKE A LARGE GIFT, DOES A SMALL GIFT REALLY MAKE A DIFFERENCE?
Absolutely! HDS values every donation, regardless of its size. Participation is equally important, as it strengthens our Annual Blue & Green Fund year after year.
EVERY CONTRIBUTION, no matter its size, leaves a lasting impression. The decision on how much to give is entirely in your hands. Your generosity reflects your connection to the School and your identity as a valued member of our community. Every dollar matters, and each gift plays a crucial role in enhancing our mission. Your support directly
influences Harford Day’s capacity to maintain an unparalleled standard of excellence within Harford County.
Leadership Gifts, defined as donations of $1,000 or more, stand out as a vital pillar of our efforts.
Thank you for your unwavering commitment to Harford Day School. Your support is the driving force behind our continued success and growth.

This fund was established in 1987 by Virginia Mannion in memory of her son, Frederick, who was a member of the Class of 1966. Frederick Mannion was a successful ophthalmologist who credited Harford Day for preparing him for his later academic achievements. The fund provides financial aid to an incoming Sixth Grader who demonstrates outstanding academic achievement and promise. The award remains with the student through his or her middle school years and is given to a new recipient upon the graduation of the previous Mannion Scholar. Growth of the fund has enabled it to provide additional support for other academically gifted students.
This fund was established in 2005 by the Dresher Foundation. Proceeds from this fund support HDS faculty professional development and financial aid.
This gift was established in 2011 with a lead gift by The Ralph & Shirley Klein Benevolent Foundation. This fund contributes to the continued long-term maintenance of Harford Day School’s buildings and grounds.
This fund was established in 1981 by Susan and Sydney Peverley in memory of their son, Jonathan, who was a member of the Class of 1985. Additional gifts were made to the fund in memory of Sydney Peverley. Proceeds from the fund provide financial aid.
This fund was established in 1983 in memory of Joel Mitchell, who was a member of the Class of 1983 and died while he was an Eighth Grader at Harford Day. Proceeds from the fund provide support for the school’s library.
This fund was established in 2005 in memory of Harford Day’s founding head, Sara Brumfield Polk. Proceeds from this fund are used for financial aid.
This endowed scholarship, named in honor of one of the founders of Harford Day School, is for a missionappropriate student whose presence in the school will increase the diversity of the student population, whether on a racial, ethnic, socio-economic or any other meaningful basis.
The Parent Association established this fund in 2002 to bring a visiting artist to Harford Day each year. Artists in the visual or performing arts help students develop an appreciation for the arts and establish connections between the arts and other areas of the curriculum. Students have an opportunity to interact with an artist in an informal setting.
This fund was established in 2004 in honor of Nancy Rakaczky’s 32-year career as head of the Harford Day kindergarten program. Proceeds from the fund provide financial aid to kindergarten students.
This fund was established in 2008 in honor of Kitty Reese who was a key volunteer in the early years of HDS and who remained connected to the school for over 40 years. Proceeds from this fund are used to support general endowment.
In 1992, the Alumni Association established this fund to provide financial aid for children or siblings of alumni. The Association started the fund using proceeds from its annual antique shows. Several donors have made additional gifts.
This fund was established in 1972 by the Dallam family in memory of William Dallam IV, who was President of the Board of Trustees at the time of his death. Mr. Dallam’s four children graduated from Harford Day School. Additional gifts were made to the fund in memory of his wife, Hope Harlan Dallam. Proceeds from the fund are used for financial aid.
This fund was established in 1983 following the retirement of longtime teacher and head-mistress Esther Bennett. Mrs. Bennett taught Fifth Grade from 1963 to 1979, when she became headmistress. Proceeds from this fund provide financial aid.
This fund was established in 2004 by Rev. Charles K. Riepe, a long-time friend of the school and former member of Harford Day’s Board of Trustees. Proceeds from this fund provide faculty professional development.
This fund was established in 1987, in memory of William Paul “Pete” Hicks. Mr. Hicks was President of the Harford Day Board of Trustees and the parent of two alumni. Proceeds from the fund provide support for the school’s library.
This fund was established in 2004 in memory of Harold Pierson, who was the grandfather of Kristine Pierson, a member of the class of 1994, and Andrew Pierson, a member of the class of 2000. Because of Harold’s love for education and travel, proceeds from this fund are used to support Harford Day’s field trips.

HVAC replacement project has been a part of ongoing efforts to enhance our school facilities. This project was initiated to improve indoor air quality, increase energy efficiency, and ensure a comfortable learning environment for both students and staff. The HVAC System installation has reached a significant milestone, with the system now fully operational and performing efficiently. Only a few minor punch list items remain — these are typically small, non-critical tasks such as final adjustments, labeling, or cosmetic finishes that do not impact overall system functionality. These will be addressed promptly to ensure full project closeout.
The Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF) phase of the project has been successfully completed. All necessary equipment and materials were installed as specified, and the system startup was conducted and finalized prior to the start of the school year. This achievement represents an important milestone, as it ensured a comfortable and climate-controlled environment for students and staff from day one.
Work is now progressing on the Dedicated Outdoor Air System (DOAS) phase. This portion of the project is advancing smoothly, with no reported delays or issues. The current timeline projects full completion by December 5, 2025, and the team
remains on schedule to meet this target.
In parallel with the technical progress, the necessary documentation for the Maryland Energy Administration (MEA) grant has been completed and submitted to the state. This step is critical to securing reimbursement for eligible expenses incurred during the project, helping to offset costs for the school and optimize the use of available funding.
WE ARE DEEPLY GRATEFUL to Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Reid, proud parents of Nathaniel (’33) and AviAnna (’35), for their extraordinary generosity in making our new kindergarten playground a reality. Thanks to their support, our youngest learners now enjoy a beautiful, safe, and engaging play space tailored just for them. In addition to the new kindergarten area, all students now benefit from a new set of swings thoughtfully placed between the early childhood and middle school play areas — further enriching our campus environment and daily student experience.
To celebrate this exciting milestone, we were honored to welcome members of the Harford County Chamber of Commerce for a ribbon-cutting ceremony on October 6, 2025. It was a joyful occasion filled with laughter, gratitude, and community spirit.

Thank you, Mr. and Mrs. Reid, for investing in the happiness and well-being of our students. Your gift will bring joy to countless children for years to come.

If you are interested in learning more about volunteering, giving, or assisting with events, please contact Lauren Milan, Director of Advancement at lmilan@harfordday.org or 410-809-2402.
VOLUNTEERING is a vital part of enhancing not only individual programs at Harford Day but also the overall sense of community that makes our School so special. Our volunteers bring time, energy, and talent — resources that are truly invaluable in enriching the educational journey of all our students.
By choosing to volunteer, you’re making a meaningful impact on the School’s mission while also gaining personal rewards. Connecting with teachers, staff, and other families offers opportunities to become more engaged in your child’s learning and to build deeper relationships within the Harford Day community. Your involvement helps cultivate a culture of connection, collaboration, and shared purpose.
We are deeply grateful to every member of our volunteer community. Your ongoing support and enthusiasm are the driving forces behind so many of our accomplishments. Because of you, we are able to offer an environment where students can grow, learn, and thrive — and for that, we sincerely thank you.
We sincerely appreciate your generous support and unwavering commitment to Harford Day School.

If you would like to get involved, sponsor an event, or assist with planning next year’s events, please contact Director of Advancement, Lauren Milan, at 410-809-2420 or lmilan@harfordday.org.
ON MONDAY, MAY 12TH, HARFORD DAY SCHOOl hosted its 33rd Annual Golf Tournament, 5th Annual 5K & 1 Mile Fun Run in loving Memory of Patrick Boyle, and 3rd Annual Pickleball and Tennis Tournaments. The events committee spent months preparing for the four events, and they were enjoyed by all. The weather, the sponsors, the players, the food, the excursions — it was truly a memorable school-wide community event.
We are sincerely grateful for all the support we received in making this day a tremendous success for Harford Day. Over 500 people participated in the day’s events, underscoring the broad community support for our school. Through the generosity of supporters like you, we raised over $145,000 for the Annual Blue & Green Fund.
The Annual Blue & Green Fund is a vital component of the School’s annual operating budget; contributions to the fund have a direct impact on teaching and learning at HDS. On behalf of the faculty, staff, and Board of Trustees of Harford Day School, we thank you for supporting Harford Day School’s Annual Fundraiser.

THERE’S A SPECIAL KIND OF MAGIC that lives within the walls of our school — a sense of belonging, of shared memories, of lifelong friendships formed in classrooms, on playing fields, and in quiet conversations between classes. It’s a magic that stays with us, no matter how far we roam, or how old we become.
This year, as we celebrate all that our students, staff, and community have achieved, we are also turning our eyes — and our hearts — toward you, our alumni.
You are the living legacy of our school.
Your stories are woven into the very fabric of this place. Whether you graduated five years ago or fifty, whether you walked these halls recently or haven’t returned since your final day, we invite you to come back and rediscover the spirit of the school that helped shape who you are today.
We’re opening our doors — and our arms — wide. This is your invitation to reconnect.
Over the past year, we’ve embarked on exciting new chapters: innovative programs, renewed spaces, increased enrollment, and inspiring student achievements. But what truly makes our community strong is not just our present — it’s our past. It’s the people like you who helped to lay the path.
Your experiences, your wisdom, and your continued connection can have a profound impact on today’s students. Whether through mentorship, volunteering, sharing your journey, or simply coming to visit, your presence reminds our current students that they, too, are part of something bigger than themselves.
Being part of Harford Day doesn’t end at graduation. It’s a lifelong connection. You are, and always will be, an essential part of our story. So please — visit us, write to us, engage with us online. Let’s rekindle the bonds that began here and build something even stronger together. With open hearts and open doors, We welcome you back.
Warmly,
The Harford Day School Community
CONTACT US TODAY!
ATTEND A CAMPUS EVENT: There’s no better way to relive memories and make new ones. Our doors are always open for you.
SPEAK TO STUDENTS: Consider stopping by to speak at a morning assembly or in a small advisory group. Your story — whatever path it’s taken — can inspire and encourage our students in powerful ways. It’s a short visit that can make a big impact.
SUPPORT CAPSTONE PROJECTS: Our 8th-grade Capstone experience is a milestone moment, and we’re always looking for alumni to serve as informal mentors or resources — offering insight into a field of interest, answering a few questions, or pointing students in the right direction. No long-term commitment — just a bit of guidance when you’re able.
UPDATE YOUR CONTACT INFORMATION: Help us stay in touch by letting us know where life has taken you.
SHARE YOUR STORY: We’d love to highlight alumni milestones, career journeys, and life updates in upcoming newsletters and school reports.
SUPPORT TODAY’S STUDENTS: Whether through time, expertise, or resources, your contribution — big or small — makes a lasting difference.
