1. WATER LIFTING DEVICES: IDE-India promotes water lifting devices called the Treadle Pump which are driven by human energy with a combination of lifting and pumping device. It is used in regions with high water table, up to about 28 feet. These are reliable and low on maintenance and lasts for 10 years.
Bamboo and the Surface Treadle Pump, Rope and Washer Pump and Concrete Pump. Different variants of the pump are promoted in different geographies but all work where water table is within 9 meters.

Use of water lifting devices replaces the use of diesel pumps thereby saving fuel and reducing carbon emission. Typically, it discharges about 3,5004,000 litres/ hour water (depending on body weight) and irrigates up to one acre of vegetable farm. There are three types of water lifting devices-
